Lilian glared at him, clearly irritated. No one had asked him to tell a story, and she simply didn't have time for such nonsense.
Alex felt embarrassed; he hadn't realized his words would provoke her. He was trying to soften her heart so she might release her grudge against him. He wasn't pleading on behalf of Isabel and her mother—this was purely for himself.
"Alright, I'll cut to the chase," Alex said, pausing and letting out a heavy sigh before continuing, "I'm truly sorry for everything I did to you in the past. I was completely wrong, and I haven't found happiness since I married Isabel…" He was earnest in his plea.
