As John entered the dining room, he greeted his family. His mother, a vision of beauty with her fiery red hair flowing down to her waist, radiated elegance and grace as she worked in the kitchen. Her captivating emerald eyes sparkled with warmth and intelligence, while her smile lit up the room.
Beside her, his elder sister mirrored their mother's stunning appearance, with her own cascade of red hair and captivating eyes. She moved with the same effortless grace, assisting their mother in the kitchen with a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose.
Meanwhile, their father, with his hair the color of gleaming gold, sat comfortably reading the newspaper. His handsome features exuded a sense of calm authority, his piercing blue eyes scanning the pages with interest. Despite being engrossed in the news, he remained attentive to his family, a strong and reassuring presence in the room.
Serena's stern voice echoed in the dining room as John sleepily entered, "John! You're late again! How many times do I have to tell you to wake up on time? You need to start showing some willpower and taking your responsibilities seriously."
Robert chimed in softly, "She's right, son. You can't keep oversleeping and expecting everything to be okay. You need to shape up." he said in a low voice but Serena heard it
Serena's gaze turned icy as she shot a glare at Robert, "And you, Robert, stop indulging him with those silly novels and manga. It's only encouraging his laziness."
John mumbled an apology, "But Mom, I'll do better, I promise."
Serena's voice turned cold, "Promises won't cut it anymore, John. It's time for action. You need to start acting like a responsible adult, or there will be consequences."
Sophie joined the conversation, her tone cold and calculated, "Brother, you should work hard. Instead of being lazy, you're 27 years old and still playing those video games and reading those stupid mangas. They won't help you in life. You need to grow up, John."
John downcast his eyes towards his plate, where his mother had placed his meal—a pancake with honey. The air in the room turned cold as everyone silently ate breakfast, the tension palpable.
Serena noticed the sadness in John's eyes and felt a pang of guilt. Clearing her throat, she changed the subject, "So, John, did you hear about that new project at work? I heard it's really exciting. Maybe it'll give you a chance to shine."
Sophie chimed in, eager to lift her brother's spirits, "Yeah, John, and remember that hiking trip we were planning? We could go this weekend. It'll be fun, just like old times."
John's face brightened at the mention of the hiking trip, "Really? That sounds amazing! I'd love to go."
Serena smiled warmly at her son, "Of course, we'll make it happen. And hey, after breakfast, why don't we all watch that movie you've been wanting to see? It'll be a nice way to relax."
John's mood lifted further, "That sounds perfect, Mom. Thanks."
Sophie grinned, "Anything for my little brother. We just want to see you happy."
The atmosphere in the room shifted from tense to warm and inviting as the family shared laughter and made plans for the day ahead, determined to make John's day a good one.
John's face fell as he remembered his important meeting at work. "Actually, Mom, Sophie, I completely forgot—I have a really important meeting at work today. I can't skip it."
Serena's smile faded, concern evident in her eyes. "Oh, honey, I'm sorry to hear that. But your career is important, too. We understand."
Sophie nodded in understanding, "Of course, John. We'll plan the hiking trip for another weekend. Your job comes first."
John sighed, feeling guilty for having to decline their offers. "I know, but I wish I could join you. Maybe we can do something special next weekend instead?"
Serena nodded, "Absolutely. We'll make it a family day to remember."
Sophie grinned, "Sounds like a plan. And hey, maybe we can have a movie night tonight after your meeting. It'll be a nice way to unwind."
John's spirits lifted at the thought, "That sounds great, Sophie. Thanks."
Despite the change in plans, the family remained supportive and understanding, determined to make the most of the day and ensure John felt loved and appreciated.
Robert, witnessing the joyful exchange between his wife, Serena, and their children, felt a deep sense of contentment wash over him. As he observed their laughter and heard their plans for the day, he couldn't help but smile warmly, his heart overflowing with love for his family. With a simple nod and a smile, he silently agreed to everything, cherishing the happiness that surrounded them. In that moment, Robert knew that his family was his greatest treasure, and he would do anything to ensure their continued joy and well-being.
As John bid farewell to his family after breakfast, a sense of unease settled in the pit of his stomach. Despite their cheerful interactions, a nagging feeling lingered within him, whispering doubts and uncertainties.
With a heavy heart, he made his way to the bus station, the weight of his decision bearing down on him. Deep down, a voice urged him to turn back, to stay with his loved ones a little while longer.
But the demands of his job pulled him forward, driving him to continue on his journey. Little did he know, as he boarded the bus and watched his family fade into the distance, that this would be the last time he would ever see them again.
If only he had listened to his instincts, perhaps fate would have taken a different course.
