That was the line that indicated where the barrier was, but the singed grass meant that the flames had passed that line and had burned the grass behind the barrier. That meant that the flames had been strong enough to break through the barrier.
Once they confirmed this, everyone who had been watching from afar immediately took action.
The only reason that they hadn't swarmed the Breaking Fist Sect previously was because of that barrier. However, once it had disappeared, they didn't hesitate to charge at the Breaking Fist Sect to claim their loot.
