The next day, Hannah was eager to make a better impression on her first day at the company.
She woke up early, checked the time on her clock, and saw that it was 8 in the morning. Feeling confident that she had plenty of time, she got ready quickly and headed to the office, planning to arrive at 9.
As she entered the building, Hannah spotted a worker near the elevator and approached him with a friendly smile.
"Excuse me," she began, "could you please direct me to Aaron's office?"
The worker looked her up and down, taking note of her casual reference to Aaron by his first name rather than acknowledging his position as Vice President.
With a raised eyebrow, he decided to assist her personally, suspecting that she might be someone important.
"Of course," he replied, his tone polite but slightly puzzled. "Let me show you the way."
Together, they made their way to Aaron's office, and the worker knocked on the door before announcing, "Vice President, you have a visitor."
Aaron, sitting at his desk, was surprised by the interruption. He glanced up; his expression was initially stern, but it softened as he noticed Hannah standing there.
"A visitor?" he repeated, a hint of curiosity in his voice. He snorted softly, though there was a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Well, this should be interesting."
He waved off the worker, who left the room, leaving Hannah alone with the vice president. "Come in," Aaron said, gesturing for her to enter his office.
She stared at his handsome familiar face, which she used to cope in her hands. He would smile a lot like a shy baby whenever she do.
Aaron suddenly looked at his watch and furrowed his brow. "So, it's Ms. Mathew," he began, "may I ask why you're running late on your first day?"
Hannah, feeling defensive, quickly retorted, "What are you talking about? I'm on time!"
Aaron burst into laughter, a warm and genuine sound that echoed through the room. He stepped closer to her, and she couldn't help but notice a change in his demeanour.
"You are late." He declared, at which she frowned and smiled before saying
"Do you really have to create problems for me as soon as I arrive?"
"Hannah," he said, his tone playful, "take a look at the time."
Perplexed, Hannah glanced at the clock on the wall and saw that it read 10:20. Her frown deepened, and she shook her head. "Did you change the time just to mess with me?"
Aaron smirked, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Check your phone," he suggested which made her to roll her eyes in annoyance.
Hannah took out her phone and checked the time, only to find that it was indeed displayed 10:20.
She couldn't believe it.
Suddenly, she felt embarrassed and looked everywhere but him.
Aaron leaned against his desk, an amused smile playing on his lips. "Are you not going to say something, Ms. Mathew?"
Hannah's cheeks flushed, and she stammered, "Uh?" She nodded and said, "I-I think my room's clock's battery has weakened. It must have stopped during the night. I had no idea I was running late."
Aaron chuckled softly. "Well, that's a creative excuse, dear Mathew. But let's not make a habit of it. Punctuality is important around here."
Feeling somewhat relieved that Aaron was taking it in good humour, Hannah nodded and managed a sheepish smile. "Of course, Mr. Moore. It won't happen again."
"I don't want it to happen too," Aaron Moore replied, his tone firm but not unkind. He looked Hannah up and down, then walked towards his seat. As he settled into his chair, he purposely muttered, "Irresponsible businesswoman."
Hannah felt a surge of frustration rise within her, but she bit her tongue, determined to prove herself in this new role. She patiently waited for Aaron to give her a task, wanting to show that she could be responsible and competent.
"What should I do?" Hannah finally asked, her eagerness to contribute evident in her voice.
Aaron didn't look at her directly but instead appeared deep in thought. He contemplated what task to assign her, although in reality, he had nothing specific in mind at the moment. He decided to test her patience and willingness to handle different tasks.
"Go and make a coffee for me," he said casually, still not turning his gaze toward her.
Hannah frowned slightly at the unexpected request. She hesitated for a moment, then decided to be honest. "Actually, I don't know how to make coffee," she admitted.
Aaron finally looked up at her with an amused expression. "What? Don't tell me you don't know how to make one."
Hannah nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed but determined not to back down. "I know. I will make one for you right away." She walked out.
After Aaron had instructed Hannah to make coffee for him, she ventured to the office kitchen to prepare it. As she meticulously brewed the coffee and added the ingredients, she couldn't shake off the feeling of being tested on her very first day.
She returned to Aaron's office, carefully carrying a steaming cup of coffee. She handed it to him with a polite smile. "Here you go, Mr. Moore."
Aaron took the cup from her and took a sip. His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he tasted the brew.
"What is this?" he asked, his expression betraying a hint of disappointment.
Hannah frowned in confusion. "What's the problem?"
Aaron sighed softly. "It's too sweet, Hannah. I prefer my coffee with less sugar."
Hannah's face flushed with embarrassment, realising that she had not asked about his coffee preferences before making it. "I'm sorry about that, Mr. Moore. I'll make another one right away with less sugar."
Aaron leaned back in his chair, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips.
As she left the office to make a new cup of coffee, she couldn't help but reflect on how her first day was turning out to be a series of unexpected challenges.
Nevertheless, she was determined to meet each other head-on and prove herself in her new role.
Evelyn wasn't here yet, and Hannah was worried about where she was. It was her job to be present with her in the meeting, taking notes while she had to write them down for the future.
Taking out her phone, she checked if her texts were unread. She opened the dialled phone numbers and saw she had called her for the tenth time since morning.
Only God knows where this witch was. With a sigh, she attempted to try again.
At the first ring, the call was accepted, which shocked Hannah as she let go of the cup and spoke.
"Where are you?" She shouted a bit and realised that she said it out loud, and now the nearby workers were looking at her. They must be thinking she was a mad woman. Hannah smiled awkwardly and bowed with an apology.
"I said, Where are you?" Hannah held her cup of coffee and started walking.
"I a..m sorry, Hannah." Evelyn replied; her voice was barely for Hannah to hear. She furrowed in confusion, but before she could speck, a woman from the other side bumped her, and her coffee fell on the woman.
Hannah gulped, and her eyes widened in worry. "I am... am soo sorry."
"You are saying sorry?" The woman didn't stop right there; she pushed Hannah away from her. "How dare you! You have spilled a whole cup of coffee on me, and you are saying'sorry'?" Hannah looked down, as it was already embarrassing for her.
The woman continued to berate Hannah, her voice growing louder by the second.
"You should watch where you're going! It's people like you who ruin everything." She gestured towards her now-stained shirt.
"Do you know how much this cost me? This is disgraceful!
Hannah, feeling more and more embarrassed, started to stammer out an apology once again. Before she could finish it, however, a deep voice cut through the air.
"That's enough." Aaron stepped forward, his presence filling the room. He looked at the woman with a stern expression.
He looked at the woman with a stern expression. "You need to calm down, Helena." Hannah glanced up at Aaron, relief evident in her eyes.
The woman named Helena was taken aback, her words lying unfinished on her lips. She glanced around before finally settling her gaze on Aaron. She thought he was stopping her, which angered her.
"Apologies are being made. You don't need to carry on like this." His voice was firm and unwavering as he turned to Hannah with a sharp glare. He said, "You owe this woman an apology."
Hannah was almost shocked, but when she saw a smirk on his face, she understood. Obviously, what was she thinking—that he was here to save her?
"I didn't mean to spill my coffee on her shirt. It was an accident." She stated her statement, but she couldn't expect much from him, as his next words made her punch his face so badly.
"Accident or not, you still made a mess and upset her. Apologise and move on." Aaron took some steps away from there, as if waiting for her to just say it while he's still present there.
Hannah realised that she wouldn't be able to win this argument, huffed, and apologised. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again."
"See that it doesn't." Aaron remarked from afar.
Helena smiled and said, "Apology accepted. Now, let's move on from this incident and continue with our tasks."
He had sarcastically taken his revenge on Hannah by making her apologise to the woman of his office.
When she returned with the revised coffee, she handed it to Aaron, who took a sip and raised an eyebrow. "Too much less sugar," he commented.
Hannah's frustration was growing, but she kept her composure and left to make yet another cup of coffee. This time, she grabbed some sugar cubes, thinking that would solve the problem. She returned with the coffee and added a sugar cube, only for Aaron to remark, "A little bit of salt would be good."
Hannah sighed, feeling a mixture of exasperation and amusement. She left once more to get some salt, wondering if Aaron was playing a prank on her. When she came back and added a tiny pinch of salt, Aaron's reaction was immediate. "That's too much!"
Hannah couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. She ran a hand through her hair, a bemused smile on her face, and finally asked, "Are you doing this on purpose just to make me feel worse?"
