Chapter 2 - WHAT A NIGHT.

CHAPTER 2: WHAT A NIGHT.

The crowd of people around gasped, as they witnessed the resounding slap Kane was served. As a result, the Deejay paused the pop music they all danced to.

Kane placed the palm of his left hand on his cheek, looking surprisedly at the stranger that slapped him. He still held drunk Johnny with his other hand.

Ava glared at him hatefully, with raging eyes. She felt like swinging at him one more time.

"Why did you do that?" Kane asked confusedly.

Ava scoffed derogatorily, shaking her head in disbelief.

"So you're trying to play the "Not aware game" huh? Do you take me for a whore, you perverted dimwit?" she snarled.

"Perverted? What do you mean?" Kane asked, furrowing his brow.

"Are you still feigning ignorance? Really? You've suddenly forgotten what you just did huh?" Ava asked, fuming.

"What the hell are you talking about lady?" Kane asked frustratedly, wondering what he was being accused of.

"You grabbed my butt!" Ava replied sharply.

"What?! I never did such a thing," Kane exclaimed surprisedly.

"Yeah right," Ava rolled her eyes. The people around them felt irked at him, giving him a gross look.

"You know, if you even had the balls to admit you did it, it would have looked better," she said, making the people laugh.

Kane looked at her, refraining from responding harshly.

"Look at him. It's clear he doesn't even belong here," Lina added, chuckling, having observed his manner of dressing.

"Well, believe whatever you want. At least am not some spoilt brat who's out in an expensive club trying so hard to waste daddy's hard earned money," Kane fired back.

"Dang! That hurt."

Someone from the crowd remarked, causing everyone to burst into laughter. Ava sulked, glaring at Kane. He glared back at her.

"Alright alright, knock it off folks. That's enough. We're here to party and have a good time, and not start a war," the deejay said through the microphone.

"Why don't you crawl back into the hole you were holed up in, hmm?" Ava said, and turned away.

"With pleasure, princess," Kane responded and headed out of the club with Johnny. The deejay resumed with another music, and everyone joined the rhythm of the song.

Ava was filled with loathsome rage, as she watched him walk away.

"Ignore him. We can't let that good for nothing douchebag ruin our fun," Lina encouraged. But Ava stumped her way to their table.

"Hey! Where are you going?" Lina asked.

"I'm done for the night!" Ava said, as she kept on walking away.

"Come on Ava. The night's just getting started," Lina grumbled, following after Ava to their table.

But Ava didn't heed her plea. She got her purse and stormed out of the club. Lina followed after her, pleading that she doesn't cut their night out short.

Outside the club, Johnny stood upright and began laughing.

"Oh man! That was something huh?" Johnny said, laughing still.

Kane furrowed his brow, wondering what was going on. .

"Wait a minute. Were your even drunk?" he asked.

"Dude, I pretended to be drunk because that's how you get away with a lot of things in the club."

"Gosh! You're pathetic!" Kane shook his head in disbelief and began walking away angrily.

"Come on man, don't be such a baby," Johnny said laughing, as Kane continued walking away.

"Wait up. Let me give you a ride home," Johnny offered, but Kane Ignored him, as he beckoned on a taxi passing by, and it stopped.

"Well don't forget my offer!" Johnny said out loud to Kane. But he still didn't respond. Johnny smirked and got into his car, driving off.

As Kane left, he was pissed at the fact that some random girl slapped and spoke to him the way she did. He felt really awful. He believed it would have been a different scenario if he was well to do.

____________

"This is why I never go to places like that. It's all your fault Lina," Ava said, frowning.

"I'm sorry. Such occurrences are bound to happen, but with hotter guys," Lina apologized.

"He was kinda cute though," she added.

Ava eyed Lina wickedly, and she faced the road as she drove Ava back to her penthouse.

"But at least, your mind is off the awful experience you had at your date right?" Lina asked.

"And replaced with one even more awful!" Ava hissed. "You know what, I don't want to talk to you right now."

Lina pursed her lips, as she continued driving in total silence, till she arrived Ava's residence. Ava got out of the car and walked to the entrance of the building complex.

Lina opened her door trying to escort her.

"Don't bother!" Ava said sternly, stopping her.

Lina sat back awkwardly, unhappy that her friend was pissed at her. She shrugged and started her ignition, heading back to her place.

Ava got into her apartment and took a warm shower. In the shower, she reminisced on the events at the club. She could still remember Kane's face vividly, causing her to fume even more.

__________

Kane got to his house at Queens. He unlocked the door and got in. The living room was dark as the lights were off. The only source of illumination was from the TV.

He furrowed his brow, seeing the TV on, and no one there. It wasn't their usual practice to leave the TV on when no one was watching. And since it was a bit late into the night, it made him wonder.

He didn't switch on the lights in order not to attract any attention. He just proceeded to the kitchen to get something to eat.

On his way there, just by the edge of the couch backing the dining table and kitchen, he stumbled upon something. He regained his balance and looked down to see what it was.

Kane was shocked to see that it was his mother who was on the floor.

"Mom!" he said, dropping to his knees, as he checked her.

"Mom? Mom? Wake up!" he said shaking her vigorously.

He checked her pulse to see if she was alive, and he found she was still breathing, but faintly. That was a relief to him.

So he quickly got his phone and dialed 911.

"911, what's your emergency?" the operator asked.

"Please I need an ambulance. I just got home and met my mother unconscious, and I don't know what to do," he responded anxiously, jittering.

"Alright, calm down. Tell me your address and I'll send one right away."

Kane went ahead to tell the operator his address, ending the call.

The lights came on, and Kane turned to see Stephanie standing in her pyjamas, with sleepy eyes.

"What's going on?" she asked calmly. She saw her mother on the floor with Kane beside her.

Her eyes widened as terror gripped her.
