Chapter 173 - Chapter 156 - The Destroyer Part 7

POV: Third Person.

City of Los Angeles, California.

Shortly After the Start of the Attack.

The four assailants split up, heading toward the four massive silver conduits converting Earth into energy. Meanwhile, Thor watches his adversary from afar, observing his sister bravely running toward him.

As he watches and his sister advances, Galactus pays no heed to Angela's approach. In fact, he doesn't even glance her way. He remains seated on his throne, exuding majesty as he gazes toward the horizon.

"BOOOM!"

Another explosion rumbles, not from the silver cables under attack, but from the Hulk's landing, a few meters away from Thor.

"It seems you're alright, my friend," Thor remarks to the green giant approaching him.

"The giant is strong, but Hulk is stronger!" the giant retorts, wiping blood from his lip.

"It appears it'll take more than that to stop you, my friend. Excellent. Now, let's attack together."

Thor twirls Mjolnir and charges toward Galactus. Yet, he doesn't attack head-on. Instead, he flies above him, spinning his hammer over his head. The clouds above Galactus part, forming a massive storm eye in the sky above his immense vessel. In fact, the entire city finds itself within the eye of the storm. For the first time, the sky doesn't cloud over with Thor's attack.

Finally catching Galactus's attention, he looks up at Thor.

"Son of Odin," he utters.

Thor offers no response. He points his hammer downward and hurtles toward the giant at high speed. As he does, the storm eye closes, and the black clouds surrounding the city converge toward Thor, shrouding his body. The god of thunder is enveloped by charged clouds, taking the shape reminiscent of a spear made of black clouds descending from the heavens.

Galactus then moves, extending his hand, palm open, to receive Thor's blow. As the clouds strike his hand, thousands of lightning bolts branch out in all directions, illuminating the skies. The bolts resemble small serpents, covering the entire sky.

Meanwhile, as this spectacle unfolds above, Angela finally reaches the base of Galactus's feet. She leaps onto them and then onto the arm of his throne. From there, she propels herself once more toward one of Galactus's eyes.

A few meters from his eye, she points her sword downward and screams at the top of her lungs.

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Even amidst his focus on stopping Thor's attack, Galactus still clearly sees a sword hurtling toward one of his eyes.

Angela, mere inches from her target, is assaulted—not physically, but mentally. Suddenly, she is no longer a warrior but a skinny, weak child on the streets of Heven.

Those watching from outside her mind see only her lifeless body falling to the ground like a limp doll.

"Sister!"

Thor, witnessing this, halts his attack and flies through Galactus's fingers. He manages to catch his sister's body before it hits the ground and lands a few meters away from the throne. In that moment, the Hulk also makes his move. He leaps from afar and lands in front of Galactus's head. This time, the entity fails to tamper with his mind, and he lands a punch square in Galactus's face.

"BAAAAAAM!"

It was undoubtedly the most powerful blow the Hulk had ever delivered. The impact was so immense that even Galactus's head jerked back. In free fall, the Hulk did not cease his assault. Landing in his enemy's lap, he gathered momentum and launched himself like a rocket, delivering a headbutt to Galactus's chin.

The Hulk fell once more into the giant's lap, but this time he did not leap again. The headbutt left him dizzy, and he staggered like a drunkard before collapsing to the ground.

Galactus, having endured these two assaults, was momentarily frozen. It had been millennia since a mortal attacked him in such a manner. His shock quickly transformed into rage as he began to rise from his throne.

"Are you alright, sister?" Thor asked.

Angela regained consciousness as Galactus shifted his attention away from her.

"I'm fine. I was caught off guard. I didn't expect him to have telepathic abilities," she replied.

"You'll do better to assume he can do anything," Thor advised, watching Galactus rise from his throne.

"The green brute played his barbaric part well; now our enemy is furious," Angela observed.

"That is certainly not a good thing, sister."

As Galactus stood, his throne glowed blue and disappeared, teleported back to his immense ship above.

"This is the second time this world has defied me. The first time, at least, I fought against gods. But now, a mere mortal dares to wound me? If you wish to hasten your deaths, so be it!"

Galactus raised his hand to his midsection, and his open palm began to glow with a brilliant purple light. The light formed into three serpents of pure energy, which then split off in different directions.

The first serpent targeted the Hulk, who was still recovering from his headbutt. Seeing the four-meter-wide purple serpent charging at him with its mouth open, he grasped its jaws to prevent being swallowed. Yet the serpent's physical power was immense, and it continued its advance, dragging the Hulk along, smashing through everything in its path.

The other two serpents of energy headed toward Thor and Angela. Thor turned and struck the serpent's head with his hammer with all his might. The energy serpent exploded into purple sparks, each spark so powerful that anything they touched was pierced, leaving glowing holes.

Angela ran to gain some distance from the serpent, just enough to pick up speed. As the serpent lunged, she leapt backward, spinning in the air, and sliced its head off, causing it to explode. Unlike Thor, who had high resistance, Angela's body was pierced by several purple sparks, injuring her shoulder, left leg, and right arm.

The intense heat of the sparks cauterized the wounds, preventing her from bleeding, but the pain was far worse than a simple cut. Yet Angela did not scream; she forced herself to stand and turned to face Galactus.

"BOOOOM!"

Thunder roared once more as Thor gripped Mjolnir with both hands and raised it above his head. Lightning began striking, one bolt, two, three, four, without stopping. The number of bolts hitting Mjolnir only increased as it absorbed the energy.

Galactus, realizing his enemy was charging a powerful attack, acted swiftly. He summoned another massive purple energy serpent and directed it at Thor, who stood immobile on the ground.

Just as the serpent reached Thor, Angela intervened. She struck with her sword, causing the serpent to explode in her face, shielding her brother. This time, she sustained more damage than from the first attack.

"Move!" Thor shouted at her.

As Angela staggered to the side, Thor acted. He struck the ground with Mjolnir's handle.

"BOOOM!"

This time, the sound of thunder came not from the sky but from the earth. The ground in front of Thor began to crack and break, the phenomenon extending to Galactus's feet, destroying the street. Then, an enormous lightning bolt, much larger than the giant himself, erupted from the earth, engulfing Galactus's entire body.

"AAAAAH!"

Galactus roared in pain.

The lightning bolt that erupted from the ground connected with the sky, branching out and resembling a great tree of pure energy.

Unfortunately, the attack didn't last long. Once the energy dissipated, Galactus remained standing, smoke rising from his body, though he didn't appear visibly injured.

"What in Odin's name do I have to do to defeat you, monster?" Thor exclaimed, rising to his feet.

"How about we try decapitating him?" Angela suggested, dragging herself toward her brother, her body in a terrible state.

Her torso was almost entirely covered in burns, and she had even lost vision in one of her eyes.

"Sister, you must retreat," Thor urged her.

"I can still fight," she replied with a smile.

"No, you can't. Amora!" Thor called out, making a decision that Angela wouldn't like.

"Wait, Amora, don't you dare!" Angela shouted.

"Amora, she can't fight anymore," Thor continued.

Angela glowed green and disappeared from Thor's side, teleported to a safe place where she could heal her wounds.

Thor then spun his hammer and flew, dodging Galactus's foot attempting to crush him. He twisted in the air, avoiding Galactus's grasping hand.

"Stark!" Thor shouted into his communicator.

{I'm here.}

"How long until Plan A?" he asked, evading another attempt by Galactus to grab him.

{Ten minutes.}

"I need help here. Angela is out of the fight," he yelled again.

{I'll redirect Thing and Human Torch since they're not making any progress on the conduits.}

"Can you?"

{I'm testing something. If it doesn't work, we'll abandon this plan and all come to you.}

"Do what you must, but find the Hulk and bring him here as well."

{Jarvis has used satellites to locate him. It appears he was sent to another state.}

Thor couldn't respond further, being too occupied. During his flight, he suddenly felt his body freeze in mid-air. Completely immobilized, Thor couldn't avoid the two massive palms closing in from both sides.

"BAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMM!"

The palms opened, and Thor's body fell to the ground, showing no signs of getting up.

"Son of Odin, you fought well. Now stay down and watch as this realm is destroyed."

Knowing the resilience of a god, Galactus altered the reality around Thor's fallen body. The ground turned silver and, as if alive, enveloped Thor, transforming him into a silver cocoon.

Galactus then turned his focus to one of his converters in contact with Earth's core. He saw a human in a red suit using technology to convert a jet's weapon into a sonic weapon, something that could damage his ship.

He could deal with him easily, but it wasn't necessary. The ship's defenses would suffice. From the ship above the city, countless blue robots emerged. The number was staggering—over three hundred blue robots had already exited, and the number continued to rise.

While more robots poured out of the ship, those already on the ground spread throughout the city, heading towards Stark, Natasha, and Barton. They swarmed over Los Angeles like an infestation of insects.

"BOOM!"

On their way to join the fight against Galactus, the Human Torch and the Thing found themselves confronted by the attacking robots. The Human Torch unleashed flames from his hands in all directions, trying to keep the enemies at bay. Meanwhile, the Thing was leaping towards the robots, smashing them apart with his massive orange stone hands. However, their enemies were not as weak as they seemed, and their overwhelming numbers were beginning to gain the upper hand.

"Stretch, you better hurry up, we can't hold out much longer!" the Thing shouted into his communicator.

{I was just about to finish configuring this weapon.} Stark's frustrated voice replied.

The Avengers' jet, piloted by Stark, was engaged in aerial maneuvers, fighting off the robots in front and defending against those attacking from behind.

The battle raged on, with over two thousand blue-armored robots swarming the city, targeting only five defenders. Meanwhile, their leader stood watching, seemingly indifferent to the ongoing conflict.

{Sorry for the delay, everyone.} Steve Rogers' voice suddenly broke through the comms.

From the horizon, several dots appeared in the sky. Those with enhanced vision could clearly see them: hundreds of military helicopters and jets flying towards the city, and at the center of it all, the old S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.

{As you can see, the wait was worth it.}
