POV: Third Person.
Bifrost, Asgard.
2011.
"You are a vain, petty, and cruel boy!"
In the golden hall that controls the Bifrost stands a man with one eye, wearing golden armor and a long red cape, holding a spear. He shouts at his son who, through his actions, may bring war to all nine realms.
"And you are old and foolish!"
His son shouts back at him. Thor, prince of Asgard, stands below his father shouting at him after attempting to invade the realm of the Frost Giants. Thor wanted to show all the realms that he should be feared as the next king of Asgard, he thought this was justification enough to start a war. After hearing his son's words, Odin seemed to have aged a few years, his face showing only disappointment with a hint of sadness.
"Yes, I was a fool to think you were ready to be king."
"Father!"
Loki seems to be standing by their side, trying to say something, but he is cut off by a gesture from his father, the message clear: do not interfere.
"Thor Odinson, you disobeyed a direct order from your king. With your arrogance and stupidity, you have brought horror and desolation of war to this peaceful realm and the lives of innocent beings!"
Odin activates the Bifrost with his spear, illuminating the entire room with lightning.
"You are not worthy of these realms! You are not worthy of your title! You are not worthy of the loved ones you have betrayed."
With each word, Odin removes one of the symbols from Thor's armor representing his titles, and in the end, he removes his long red cape, symbolizing his place as a member of the royal family of Asgard. Odin then steps back and extends his hand, taking Thor's Mjolnir.
"Now I take from you your power, in the name of my father, and in the name of his father, I Odin, Father of All, banish you!"
A massive bolt of energy strikes Thor in the chest, sending him through the Bifrost to an unknown location. Odin takes Mjolnir to his lips and whispers to it.
"Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."
Odin's words create a runic enchantment that can be seen on the side of the hammer, then he spins it and throws the hammer also into the Bifrost, making it disappear from Asgard.
Loki, who saw everything, smiles subtly so his father does not notice his happiness, his plan took a turn for the better than he ever imagined.
Odin, on the other hand, hangs his head, thinking of his mistakes that caused his son's arrogance and stupidity, leading him to take his action now.
"I should never have banished him."
Odin speaks quietly, thinking of his other son who sacrificed all his power and his place in Asgard to prevent a war. He watched as his son thrived alone in Midgard, far from his family.
"Please, my son, I hope you have not harbored resentment toward your father to deny me a request. Help your brother become the man he needs to be."
POV: Baldur.
Royal Castle of Genosha, Royal Room.
Simultaneous with Thor's banishment.
2011.
Hours of unsuccessful research were leaving Baldur quite irritated, this was one of the few times his hard work yielded no results. After returning from Nidavellir and delivering the dead celestial's body to them, requesting they create a weapon for him, Baldur had never seen people happier than them when they saw the material to craft the weapon. The king himself declared that he would assemble the best dwarves to work on the weapon that would surpass Mjolnir.
Funny how the only thing they asked as payment for crafting such a powerful weapon for him was to place their mark inside it, showing that they were the ones who created it. For the dwarves, that was enough. However, to complete the project, they needed a material as rare as uru. Luckily, Baldur knew that this element was on Earth.
Gravitonium, which appeared in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series, was recovered by them without knowing its true value. Baldur just needed a bit of it to succeed in building the weapon. He didn't want to wait a few years for the events of the series, so he started searching for it personally. This material only appeared in the MCU, so he had no idea where to find it outside the series' references.
"Since there's no other option, I'll just have to wait."
Baldur got up from the chair at his desk, where he had all the data on where to find the Gravitonium.
"Sir, our satellites detected the opening of the Bifrost in Puente Antiguo, New Mexico."
"So it begins."
"Please, my son, I hope you haven't harbored any resentment toward your father to deny me a request. And help your brother become the man he needs to be."
Odin's voice echoed through Baldur's room as if he were right beside him. Baldur looked around and saw no sign of his father.
"Alice, what was that just now?"
"What are you referring to, sir?"
"You didn't hear the voice?"
"No, sir, I didn't detect any voice coming from your room."
Even old and almost without strength, Odin could send his voice from one realm to another, bypassing Genosha's magical defenses. Baldur didn't know why he was surprised, but asking for his help to take care of his spoiled and idiotic son, even after not sending me a message since my wedding gift, leaves me a little angry. Not that I hold a grudge for being banished, I was aware of the consequences and accepted them. But I still received occasional letters from my mother, and Loki too, although his letters stopped over two hundred years ago. Thor is an idiot, so I don't care. Of all of them, only Odin had no interaction with me.
(Even as a reincarnated being, I still consider him a father and am saddened by this.)
"I would help Thor anyway, but I'll do it my way, not his. When it comes to raising children, he has no voice to contradict me."
Baldur left the room and began his journey to New Mexico.
"Alice, send a message to Amora and ask her to meet me there."
"Yes, sir."
POV: Baldur.
Desert near Puente Antiguo, New Mexico.
Shortly after Thor's fall.
2011.
Mjolnir didn't fall far from the city. It only took a few seconds to find it using Genosha's satellites. Since it was still night, it hadn't caught the attention of the town's people yet, so I have a few hours before it becomes a circus. S.H.I.E.L.D. will arrive shortly after.
"I never thought Odin's favorite and spoiled son would actually be banished and reduced to a mere mortal."
Amora teleported to my side, holding her new black staff that she built after her adventure when I was heading towards the green planet. After losing the fight against Gorr, she spent most of her time away from Genosha, honing her magical skills across the realms.
"Did you see him?"
I hadn't revealed my future knowledge to her, so she must have seen him to know he had become mortal. She looks at me with a hint of anger and responds.
"Your message was a bit vague. Finding you in a small town in the middle of a desert, then I heard about the Bifrost opening, so I used a detection spell to find out who wasn't human. That's how I found the mighty and spoiled Thor in a hospital bed. It was funny to see him being drugged by the doctors."
She says the last part with a smile on her face.
"Did he see you?"
"No. Now let's get to the point."
Amora walks to the center of the crater caused by Mjolnir's impact, her hands glowing green as she approaches the hammer. She remains like this for a few minutes, and as time passes, I see her frown, a clear sign that she is not succeeding in understanding the enchantments placed on Mjolnir. After some more time, the lights around Mjolnir dim.
"I give up! These enchantments are beyond my knowledge, runic magic has never been my strong suit anyway."
Clearly annoyed at not knowing something, Amora crosses her arms beside me.
"Even though you don't know which enchantments or runes Odin used, you're smart enough to figure out their purpose, aren't you?"
I try to cheer up my wife a bit.
"In a simple way, whoever wields the hammer, and is deemed worthy in Odin's eyes, will gain the powers that Thor possesses. Odin is truly intimidating."
"What do you mean?"
"For example, if a human were worthy of wielding the hammer, they would need to have a body similar to Thor's to use his powers without being destroyed by them. That's the most impressive thing about the enchantments, whoever uses the hammer will literally become Thor. The magic to transform anyone into a god is simply terrifying."
In the comics, several people have possessed Thor's powers, the most notable of whom in my opinion is Jane Foster. She certainly had moments where she wielded Thor's powers better than he did himself, but the important thing is that she had her body transformed into a goddess while battling cancer. I can grant some of my powers using my weapons, but I can't transform someone's body into a god, that's what Amora is telling me.
"Would this enchantment work for me? I mean, remove my powers and seal them in my spear?"
"HAHAHA!"
To my surprise, Amora begins to laugh at my question. After some time, she realizes that it was a serious question, and she looks at me as if I were a fool.
"Baldur, if Odin were to perform the same enchantment on you, he would have to sleep for millions of years to recover. Don't compare yourself to an idiot like Thor. Unlike him, you've polished your powers to a terrifying level. Unlike you, I doubt Thor has trained other uses for his powers besides shooting lightning at people. He has great power, I won't deny that, but he's not as refined as you."
I've never seen Thor trained in the use of his powers other than shooting lightning at his enemies. Most of the time, he focused only on physical training and battles. Of course, there's a learning curve that can be gained during a fight, but Thor resolved all of them with his lightning, so he thought there was no reason to find other ways to use his powers. No matter how much power you have, if you don't use it fully, it's being wasted.
"Are you staying?"
Amora asks me, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"I want to study the runes for a bit. It's been a long time since I've had a breakthrough in my magic."
After creating the runes that ensured my victory against Balthakk and Cain Marko, I haven't made any notable advances in my runes. Perhaps by studying the master, I can learn more.
"Then I'll find a place to sleep in the city."
After Amora leaves, I'm alone in the middle of the desert, looking at and studying the hammer until my curiosity gets the better of me. I approach the handle of the hammer.
"Let's see if I'm worthy in my father's eyes."
I put my hand on Mjolnir's handle and try to lift it.
