Chapter 40 - 40: The chase

"Oi! Even I will feel hurt if you say such things about me. Can you not badmouth me in front of my junior?"

Dimitry whined before the princess, and Sui almost laughed at how ridiculous a jilted grown man could look.

"Tsk, I did not ask you to make a fool of yourself, Dimitry. You should have chosen a better approach if you wanted to be respected by Sui. Anyway, what is the situation out there?"

Sui was sure that the princess was not angry with Dimitry.

The silly grin on Dimitry's face faded and was instantly replaced by a serious look.

"I looked around into the affairs of the local village and Minister Xiao's family accounts. There is a lot we need to unpack here. I would advise you to change your bulldozing strategy through this case."

The princess glared at Dimitry, and her anger made even Sui flinch.

However, Dimitry continued to hold his ground and not look intimidated by the princess.

"Glaring at me or threatening me will not solve the underlying problem, princess. However, if you were to visit the local vessels, it might help us out a lot."

'Wow! I haven't seen anyone standing up to Princess Yunjin before. I can't tell if this man is suicidal or just that brave.'

Sui looked at Dimitry with admiring eyes, and the man noticed.

His expression softened, and he waved at Sui to indicate that he had noticed her.

Sui was about to gesture back to him when the princess interfered and placed herself in front of Sui to hide her from Dimitry's glance.

"This is enough. I've heard what you have to say. But you do have a point. The local lords will become a problem now that I've caused Minister Xiao's downfall."

The princess was more than aware of what she had done and what would result from her actions.

But for the first time, she looked resigned, ready to take responsibility.

"Princess Yunjin, I cannot tell you how proud I am of your decision. That said, I wish you all the best in dealing with those meatheads on your own. I will be borrowing my cute junior for some investigation."

Sui blinked as she watched Dimitry moving around, and in the blink of an eye, he dragged" Sui out of the room.

The dead body was also picked up and was now being carried under Dimitry's arms.

Sui was too stunned to react, but the princess regained her composure far sooner than Dimitry anticipated.

"Shit, here she comes. Sorry kid, but it looks like this will be one hell of a bumpy ride. Don't think of me as a bad person for this, alright?"

Dimitry asked, and Sui finally regained her senses and pulled Dimitry back.

The older man had not expected Sui to grab him by the back of his shirt and pull him back.

Sui was small and light, but she knew how to use her body well.

"Don't move if you know what is good for you. I will be forced to end your life."

Sui kept a small knife on her, which she used to threaten Dimitry.

"W-Wait, Sui, I think there has been some misunderstanding here. I am not a bad person. I am trying to help you out. I am a good person."

Dimitry tried to reason with Sui, but he had already lost her trust.

And then the princess ended up pulling up as well.

"Dimitry Hun, are you tired of living? Looks like I've been too lenient with you."

The princess looked like a demon, her aura flaring around her body and her blue eyes shining with a vengeance as she walked one step at a time.

"P-Princess Yunjin, I can explain. You see, I just thought-"

"You thought? Who permitted you to think?"

Sui watched the so-called 'Jewel of the kingdom' almost piss his pants when he was in front of the princess.

"I'm sorry, princess. I will stop thinking now. S-So why don't we talk about itttttt?"

A sharp sword embedded itself in between Dimitry's legs, and it ended up being too close to his vulnerable body part.

'Ouch! Wasn't that a little too close to a disaster? Thank god I am not in Dimitry's position. The princess can get scary at times.'

Sui kept an eye on the princess while keeping her knife in place.

Dimitry panicked at the dual assault he was experiencing, but the princess looked worse by the second.

Finally, she sighed and pulled her sword back.

Dimitry breathed a sigh of relief once he realized the princess spared him.

"Sui, come back to my side. We will leave for the meeting with the local lords right now."

The princess ordered, and Sui didn't hesitate to turn around and follow her.

However, that was when Dimitry decided to open his mouth and call out to the princess again.

"Princess Yunjin, do you want to take your new guard to this meeting? She cannot back you up with her current strength."

Dimitry finally showed his true colors once the princess turned her back.

Sui knew that not everyone would like her in her new location. Most people would see her and find her to be an eyesore.

So, she was prepared for this kind of backlash to occur.

Sui just did not expect the rejection to sting.

'Ouch! Well, Dimitry is not wrong. My background and upbringing are not desirable in a princess's guard. But still, did he have to be this upfront about it?'

Sui resolved to say something, only for the princess to reply first.

"Ah, tell me something I don't know next time, and don't waste my time. I am not afraid of anything those old fools can do."

The princess was a strong person, and she had nothing to fear because of old nobility.

"You might be fine going against those elders, but your new guard will become their target if you do this. Or, wait! Maybe this is not that bad of an idea. If those old fools focus on Sui, they will leave themselves open. Princess, this is-"

Dimitry stopped speaking, and his facial expression looked weird.

It almost looked like he had swollen something bitter and sour at the same time.

And it all happened after he looked at the princess's face.
