Sui had returned to her room around noon and slept for around three hours before someone came looking for her.
The maid entered Sui's room without even knocking, and one look was enough to tell Sui that this person was a noble.
"Ugh, how can anyone live in this crappy room. They don't even have the necessities or have this place cleaned up. Why did I have to volunteer to come here?"
The maid complained in a loud voice when she walked toward Sui's bed.
Sui was already awake at this point but pretended to be asleep to see what the maid would do.
"Oi, wake up! How dare you sleep in like that when a noble is here to wake you up. I will get angry if you don't wake up now."
The noble maid yelled loudly, hoping it was enough to wake Sui.
'She does not want to touch me and might regret ever coming here. Should I wake up and scare her now? No, let's make her try a little harder.'
Sui kept her eyes closed, and the maid finally had enough. The maid quickly went outside, and Sui finally decided to open her eyes.
When the maid returned, she had a few stones in her hand, and her intention was clear.
"..."
Sui did not bother to ask what the other maid wanted to do.
"G-Good, you are finally awake. The princess has asked you to report to her quickly. Get going now."
The noble maid regained her composure quickly and let the rocks drop.
Sui opened her mouth but then decided that it was not worth it to ask questions.
But even more importantly, Sui did not want to keep the princes waiting around. Who knew what the princess would do if she got angry at Sui?
"How can anyone even live in such a place? I won't be able to breathe, much less get a good night's sleep. The floor is all raw, and the door is not steady. I bet this place is full of bugs."
The maid continued complaining as she escorted Sui to the princess's office.
They stopped outside the door, and the maid finally remembered that her duty was over.
*cough*
"Princess, I've brought the maid you requested."
There was no answer from the other side, which made Sui nervous.
She could not predict the princess's mood, but it was too late to run away.
The noble maid had already opened the door and pushed Sui inside before running away.
"This was the third time. I remember telling you to stop running away from me. But it looks like you are taking my words too lightly, my dear bunny."
The princess was smiling, but bloodlust and danger were hidden behind her smile.
It made Sui's blood cold, but she maintained her smile.
"..."
Sui did not know how to respond to this, so she did her best to maintain her smile and not show how disturbed she felt.
The princess grinned at Sui's uncomfortable expression before she decided to change the topic.
"Anyway, I don't think my bunny ever told me her name."
'Is the princess referring to me when she says 'bunny'? Where did this nickname come from? Ah, but this is not the first time the princess has called me by this nickname, right?'
Sui could recall a few times when the princess had used this endearment to call Sui out.
But this was the first time the princess had asked for her name.
"My name is Sui. I am a s-"
"Sui, huh? Well, I don't know or care what you were before today, but from now on, you are a part of my guard and will report to me. You will be my shadow and stick to me during the day."
The princess was still smiling when she ordered this, but that smile was becoming more and more like a nightmare to Sui.
Was being Imperial Princess Yunjin's bodyguard a difficult task?
In theory, it was not.
Princess Yunjin was too solid and scary to have enemies. Even those who targeted her were dealt with by herself.
So, having a guard did not make sense to her, and Sui had never heard of the princess having one.
However, the princess herself was the most significant issue and the danger in this position.
'Is the princess fucking with me? Why does she even need a guard when she is capable enough? And even if she needs one, why did she choose me when there are so many better options available in the military?'
Sui narrowed her eyes but quickly realized what she was doing and made her expression neutral again.
"I understand, princess. But what do I-"
Sui might have accepted this position (she did not have a choice) but was out of her element.
She might have done all kinds of odd jobs, but this was the first time she had to be a guard for someone.
The princess's smile did not invoke any confidence in Sui either.
"Don't worry. You'll learn your job as you perform it. Also, get ready to head out. We will be out investigating a case the whole day."
'Are you kidding me? Why is this happening? It was forcing me to be your guard, but not enough! Now, you want me to exhaust myself out there as well?'
Sui's mind was filled with complaints, but none could be voiced or shown on her face.
"Oh my! You look unsatisfied with your new position. Most people would have fainted if they were in your position. But somehow, you do not look happy."
The princess spoke softly as she reached out to touch Sui.
'Oh, people would have fainted in my position for sure. But I am unsure if it would be out of joy or happiness.'
Then again, there were so many crazy people out there who would do anything to get the princess to acknowledge their presence that they would even agree to die.
Sui looked at the princess, only to find her smiling in amusement.
"You are amusing. Make sure to keep me entertained, alright?"
Sui had no idea why the princess had said this or what she did to entertain the princess, but she hoped it was enough to keep her alive until the princess found a new toy to play with.
