Chapter 1 - Prologue

Ā Earth, a tiny blue sphere filled by a variety of life. One form of life stands above others. This life form is called humanity. An advanced species with complex technology that can bring prosperity and comfort. Despite having this amazing technology humanity is filled with great injustice and immense suffering.

Ā The small groups that lead humanity use this technology to enrich themselves and put down the majority. To keep them compliant, and over time they suffered so much they became blind to the pain and injustice. They create great weapons of war, capable of immense devastation. With these destructive tools they believed themselves unstoppable and themselves divine. Though they would soon be proven wrong.

Humanity was wound tight like an over-pulled spring. Between the wars, homelessness, subjugation of certain groups, and the world's ecosystem falling apart and dying it appeared things could not get worse. Unfortunately things were about to get far worse. Everything changed when the first portal appeared.

Portals began to appear around the earth. Connected to another world, creatures thought to have only existed in myth poured out of them. These monsters rampaged causing great destruction. What's worse is when humanity fought back their weapons had little to no effect. Guns were ineffective being about as good as throwing pebbles, and when they tried more medieval weapons such as swords it was like hitting them with a frail stick. Explosives seemed to be the only thing that could properly harm and kill them but it came at a great cost. The explosions were somehow amplified when coming into contact with the monsters. A small grenade would collapse a building and rpg's could wipe out a block. There was immense collateral damage.

Things seemed hopeless for earth. They could not fight back unless they blew themselves up. Thankfully there was hope. New portals started appearing, much different from the monsters. They were more organized and surrounded by runes. Out of these portals came humans and a variety of other species. There were elves, dwarfs, and a variety of anthropomorphic species. They wore armor that was straight from fantasy and wielded swords, bows, and staves. Their swords and bows could pierce the monsters with ease. Hammers that could crush their scales and their staves cast spells that were once thought to be impossible.

This turned the tide immediately. Once the battlefields were cleared it was learned that these people were adventures from another world called Eden. They had been given a task to come to Earth's aid by an unknown divine being. The monsters were also from Eden though their portals were connected to the many dungeons that littered their world. Why those portals appeared was unknown.Ā

The adventurers offered to be hired by the people of Earth until the Dungeon Portal situation could be solved. The governments of the world accepted and asked if their troops could be taught how to fight like the adventurers. Unfortunately such a thing wasn't possible since the magic of Earth was so stagnant it may as well be dead. The humans of Earth could now enchant their weapons to do harm to the monsters. It wouldn't be by much, it would be the equivalent of throwing a proper rock instead of a pebble.

Eventually the situation became more manageable, and portals started appearing less often. There was a spark of hope for Earth. Unfortunately this story wouldn't be told if that was the case. A massive portal appeared in a small underdeveloped country. A massive chartreuse dragon came out from it. It was many stories tall, its sickly green scales denser than any known metal. It breathed a putrid acidic breath that melted anything it came into contact with.Ā

The leaders of the major nations had come together quickly, summoning the most powerful adventurers there were available. Unfortunately the heroes from Eden said nothing could be done. This dragon was one of the eldritch monsters. A being whose lived for millenia and power may as well be divine. The best course the heroes could give is to evacuate anyone in its path. After the heroes left the leaders came to a quick decision on what must be done. The only option they had was to nuke it before it got anywhere near any of the "important" nations.

They waited till the dragon reached the center of the country it appeared in to minimize damage. It would wipe out the capital city but it was supposedly worth it to keep the dragon occupied enough. They sent a high speed bomber equipped with the lowest yield nuke available. There was no evacuation order so the dragon wouldn't be suspicious. The plane flew fast to its destination, aiming carefully. It dropped its yield from high in the atmosphere with precision. It was falling directly to where the dragon was. The leaders were already congratulating themselves until they saw something odd. The dragon looked directly up at the falling nuke as if it knew what was coming. Then it seemed to smile a bone chilling smile that horrified all that saw it. Then the nuke hit.

What happened next would be remembered by reality itself. The sheer suffering and cruelty that occurred would leave an eternal scar. The nuke exploded, engulfing the dragon completely. It didn't stop there though the explosion grew rapidly. It grew so fast it engulfed the jet that should have outran it. It kept going, growing and growing. It didn't stop till it engulfed the whole country and bits outside of it. It was a horrifying sight to all visible to many of the countries around the world terrifying all that beheld it. All that was left was an immense crater where the small country once resided. Millions wiped from existence.Ā

It didn't stop there though. The reaction between the dragon and nuke didn't just make it bigger. Somehow the explosion managed to kickstart the Earths magic once more. The once stagnant field started flowing again around the world. Magic awakened in a majority of the populace in an excruciatingly painful way, but the physical pain was the easy part. Along the currents of magic it carried the memories of those ended by the nuke. Everyone who awakened to magic saw and felt those memories. The deaths of those caught in the nuke weren't fast, they were drawn out and immeasurable. There were many who died from the sheer grief and pain of those collective memories. Everyone who awakened began to see the cruelty and pain on earth again, like their minds were fully awake again.

The world leaders held conferences very quickly to try and keep dissent down. The world watched the speeches closely filled with anger and resentment. The leaders spoke of how they regret the outcome but how it was a necessary evil and the losses were a small cost to protect the world.

Small cost. These words rang throughout the world and sparked outrage. The memories of the pain they were shown burned in their minds. Those innocents lost weren't small or of less value; their pain and lives were real and great. The tension that had been building for decades finally snapped. It exploded with rage shattering the complacency humanity had fallen into.

The people organized very quickly, fired up by their anger. A revolution encompassing the globe began. No government that stood before would stay standing. There was still the dungeon portal problem but the adventures from Eden helped train the newly awakened to fight with their new abilities.

Though this story is not about the revolution, but of an individual who wished to participate in it. It will not even take place on Earth but in Eden. We will come back to it in time. What importance this individual will have for Earth will be seen in time. That is if he can survive Eden.
