Chapter 20:Death [3]
"What... What is this?" Shiro questioned in a dim low voice barely audible. So much so that even Mornil couldn't hear it.
Shiro looked in Mornil's direction with confusion ready to ask what this thing was.
But what Shiro saw left him dumbfounded and stunned.
Mo-Mom!
The moment he was distracted the screen in front of him instantly disappeared. But Shiro didn't care, he didn't care about the dumb light that had erupted in front of him.
For Shiro, something much more important was waiting. Or rather someone, someone who he wished to speak from the depths of his heart.
"Mom!"
Huh? Did he wake up?
Mornil was somewhat startled while Loyola was still in her dazed state, not understanding what was the matter.
Why was Mornil here? Why did the environment seem different? Why were they not back in their home?
Arggh!
It hurts!
Loyola clenched her teeth as hard as she could. Judging from her body language, Mornil instantly deduced that Loyola felt pain.
Shiro too stood on the place not making a move, as he realized the gravity of the situation.
"Where does it hurt?" Mornil questioned gently. Loyola slowly raised her head and looked at Mornil.
"Mornil..."
"Yes, I'm here." Mornil grasped both her palms.
"I... I don't know..."
"Don't worry Loyola. Don't worry, the pain will slowly fade away..."
"Really?"
"Really," Mornil affirmed.
Loyola's lips trembled but she resisted the pain. Fought against the pain.
What followed the wave of pain was an indescribable feeling of dread.
Dread from the fact that she could sense something...
She didn't know how to put it, but she could sense it... Sense the fact that death was staring right at her face, smiling at her, enticing her to give up, give up and come to his embrace, give up and enter his divine domain.
Her lips trembled even more as her body started to shiver.
"Are you alright? I'll bring hot water." Saying this Mornil was about to stand up, but now it was Loyola's turn. She stretched her hand grabbing Mornil's palm.
"S...Sera? Shiro? I want to see them..."
Mornil froze as tears instantly burst from Shiro's eyes.
"M-mom!"
"Shiro!"
The small kid instantly rushed forward towards his mother, jumping into her embrace.
Loyola, though feeling weakness rooted within her body didn't care as she gave a tight hug to her beloved son.
Mornil's heart warmed at this sight, of the mother and son, but his heart simultaneously twisted as he thought of Sera.
She is buried deep within the ground... What should I say?
"Shiro..." After a two-minute hug, Loyola finally called out his name again. "Where's your sister..."
It was as though lightning struck Shiro. He felt as though a lump was stuck in his throat, not allowing him to speak.
The intensity of his tear flow intensified. After opening and closing his mouth for several seconds he finally spoke. "Sera- Hick- Sniff- Sniff- She was extremely Sick..."
"And?" An ominous feeling rose within Loyola.
"And... Hick!"
"Loyola... The young child is quite sorrowful. Actually, Sera was really sick, and I recently disposed of many of my medicines and equipment so I sent her to one of my friends, don't worry that friend is a female and specialises in taking taking of children so she can take care of Sera properly, and She's also quite trustworthy."
"Is that so?" The ominous feeling didn't disappear. Instead, it just intensified.
"I... I wish to see her." Mornil's heart sank.
"Alright, I'll tell my friend to bring Sera over." Even after listening to this, Loyola's grip didn't loosen, instead, it intensified.
"Can... You please take me to my old house."
"S-sure, but before that here eat something."
"Mm."
Not having eaten for 5 days. Naturally, her digestive system couldn't handle anything hard. Not even brown bread.
As a result, Mornil tore off a small piece of bread, mashed it up and then threw it in a bowl of water. He then took a boiled potato and mashed it up in the water.
After that, he gave it a good stir before walking towards Loyolq.
In all honesty, the semi-liquid looked quite disgusting. But Loyola chugged it down her throat anyway.
Blergh!
Before even two minutes could pass Loyola's body instantly rejected the food.
Sigh.
This time Mornil brought just a mashed potato she still had the same reaction.
Exhaling another sigh, Mornil busied himself cleaning the mess.
"Mornil... Please... Take me to my old house..."
"But..."
"Please."
"Sigh, alright." He helplessly shook his head. Carrying Loyola he exited the clinic. Shiro followed him too.
The moon was high in the sky. It was nighttime. The bright stars in the sky, along with the moon made it seem as though the bright sun never existed.
Mornil biting his lips continued to walk forward. The cold temperature made his joints hurt and cold accumulated in his body.
But he didn't care.
His steps were getting slower and slower as he exhaled frosty breath.
Shiro followed behind. He tried to control his tears, but he couldn't.
They were flowing continuously...
Damm it! Why am I crying? Why am I crying?! Mother had woken up, we have Mornil here, She won't leave me, she WILL NOT LEAVE ME... Like Sera did...
Shiro tried to console himself, he tried to stop the tears, he tried to convince himself, but in the end, he failed.
He was a bad liar after all...
They both finally reached their house. As Shiro's gaze was fixated on the house, he overcame with emotions.
Entering the house, Mornil placed Loyola on the bed.
Mornil then brought a chair close to the bed and sat on it while Shiro sat on the ground.
Silence.
"Sera... Sera... Sera..." Suddenly amidst the dark, these words were spoken.
Mornil slowly once again grasped Loyola's palms.
She is still alive... But I don't know for how much longer.
It's my fault... Everything's my fault. Only If I'd...
Sigh, I failed again...
