Chapter 10 - New monks mistake vol 3:

In this particular volume, I will be focusing on the mistakes that were made in the two previous chapters. As we have learned, a novice monk can never find their meditation goal without a robust bodhicitta. This eventually leads them to become an inefficient monk. It is essential to remember that you become a monk for yourself and not because others ask you to do so. You become one because you have listened to your "true heart", which is your bodhicitta.

I once met a great monk at the pagoda who never looked at the pagoda rules even once. Despite this, he never did anything wrong. You may wonder how that is possible. It's because what he was doing was already beyond the control of the rules. A strong bodhicitta is necessary to guide us and motivate us to meditate joyfully, creating our joy.

Some people find it challenging to meditate for even 30 minutes. It's because they force themselves to do it, probably because of the rule. Real monks don't meditate for just 30 minutes. For someone who is genuinely listening to their bodhicitta and following it, 30 minutes might only be the time they need to start their meditation session.

This problem will continue no matter how long you have been a monk. If you want to continue and eventually reach your goal, you should reflect and improve yourself.
