Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: First Day (Pt.1)

[Carman POV]

Waking up in the morning was a quick affair today, Ryuzu had discovered that flicking droplets of cold water on my face was an effective method of stirring me awake. Thankfully I had planned ahead and went to bed early last night to avoid being awoken in such a manner.

Getting dressed was a bit difficult as the uniform for the school had a few accessories that I hadn't had to deal with in either of my lives so far. However Ryuzu and I quickly got them sorted out. Due to how early I had risen, there was plenty of extra time between getting dressed and when I would have to leave to make it to the school. Unfortunately Ryuzu insisted that I not gow down into the hidden workshop, citing the times she had to clean oil out of street clothes because I had forgotten or had been to lazy to change. I begrudgingly admitted to her point there, I tend to get too absorbed into my work to the point that I forget minor things like being careful when opening oil reservoirs to make sure they don't spray on my clothes. The number of times Ryuzu had commented that I looked like I was the killer in a robot equivalent of a slasher film were too many to count. It probably wasn't helped by the fact I was basically getting broken constructs for their parts and splicing them together into something new. With my work over the past few weeks, the level of my clockwork engineering and clocksmithing skills had leveled up. With the new knowledge I came closer to understanding certain principles such as the Perpetual Gear from Ryuzu's world but it was still a bit to advanced for me to fully comprehend yet. If I were able to harness the power of dimensions and time the way Y had when constructing his initial Y series, the need for elemental and other energies as a power source would be rendered null. In terms of clockwork engineering, I learn the concept of using components made of alloys infused with elemental energy to achieve certain effects normal not possible, I also received information on the process to make a number of the alloys, including Electeosteel, Hydro silver, and Cryo infused Brass. While these alloys weren't the best for making weapons, they were great at absorbing and storing a particular element.

Each of the alloys also has variants.that produced different effects due to the different ratios of the metals used in their creation. I was currently contemplating a variant of Cryo infused Brass, that would cause its surface to experience a complete lack of friction against anything rubbed against it. It would also absorb heat from any object it makes contact with to a certain degree. There were a few things I could do with such a metal but unfortunately I did not have access to a few of the materials required that held the Cryo element.

Noting down ideas for substitutions in my notebook I quietly ate the large breakfast Ryuzu had prepared. After about an hour, we headed out the sun had barely started it's climb into the sky.

As we neared the school there was a crowd of kids and their parents outside the school doors. There were a number of students with a similar uniform as me, but some of the older students had uniforms made of different colored fabrics. Doing my best to estimate their ages, it seems the oldest students wore white uniforms, the next one down wore light grey, the ones below them wore a navy color and the students that wore uniforms similar to mine were wearing black.

After a few minutes rough looking adults opened the doors and ordered the student to file in in an orderly fashion. Saying goodbye to Ryuzu, I headed in when my cohort was called. I was handed a sheet that informed me that I was expected to attend an orientation in the main lecture hall. After asking around I managed to get instructions on how to get there.

After getting into the hall I took a seat and watched a few stragglers file into the back rows as a tough looking lady made her way o to the stage. As soon as she walked onto the stage the entire room went quite. She did not need a microphone as her voice was easily carried through the air, the stern aura she gave off seemed to be begging for a student to interrupt her.

Despite being extremely intimidating, she welcomed all of us to the academy, introduced us to the ground rules, and ran through some basic information that would be helpful in the coming days, usual orientation stuff. At the end we received locations and codes for storage areas we would be able to store our things and projects during the year. After the orientation and locating my storage area I made my way to the first class of the day, "Physical Equations."
