Chereads / Mystic Tales : [Elven] Romēio and Juliette / Chapter 5 - Progress in time - Act 4

Chapter 5 - Progress in time - Act 4

In the dimly lit room, Juliette approaches Romeo with a concerned expression. She softly asks, "Romeo, my dear, why do you look so melancholic tonight? Is it the fever that ails you, or is something else troubling your heart?"

Romeo says something that made Juliet laugh "Yeah the fever is giving me an headache and internal pain yet also…sorry for ruining you bed with my Nightingale scent and drooling..so embarrassing..and it's during a surprising sleepover together in your bedroom.."

Juliette chuckles, finding his self-deprecating humor endearing. "Oh, Romeo, don't worry about such trivial matters. It's all part of taking care of someone who's not feeling well. Besides, your scent is quite pleasant, and I'd say it adds to the ambiance of my room," she teases

.Romeo blush as he looks away and scoot to give space for her to lie down on the left side of the bed "I do s-so? I-I mean anyways…ahem..who's the flirtatious one now Hmph..." cute huff

Juliette playfully raises an eyebrow as she lies down, mirroring his teasing tone. "Well, Romeo, it seems we've both learned a thing or two about playfulness. Maybe this is a side of us we didn't get to explore in the usual timeline," she says with a mischievous smile.

Romeo sighs "You think? Plus I think I only played my lute for you once on that terrace of your window here..remember that? Ughh I sound like a cheesy bard"

Juliette smiles warmly, reminiscing. "I do remember, Romeo. You played beautifully that night, and it felt like the stars were dancing to the melody. It wasn't cheesy; it was a heartfelt gesture," she replies, her eyes sparkling with fond memories.

Romeo spoke "even though.." he turn to face her gaze during the moonlight "It was a sudden visit for me throwing a pebble at your window , being flamboyant , theatrical and dramatic?"

Juliette chuckles, "Yes, it was all of those things, but it made for a magical memory. Besides, it was a unique way to get my attention, and it worked." She reaches out to gently touch his cheek. "You have a way of turning even the most dramatic gestures into something beautiful."

Romeo smile as his ears twitch "Still I think thanks to my fever we had time to deviate from the timeline and Oh..knew eachother better it's a fortune both our friends manage to work together..well I am aware Mercutio and Rosalina's families are business partners yet what a miracle.."

Juliette nods, "It truly is a miracle, and I'm grateful for this opportunity to spend more time with you. Sometimes, fate can take us on unexpected journeys, and it seems this one has brought us closer." She smiles and leans in to give him a gentle kiss on the lips.

He kiss back before pushing her away coughing "wait I can't let you get sick remember? I still I had the feverish cold"

Juliette chuckles, "You're right, we should be careful. But this time, we have all the time in the world to get to know each other better." She reaches over and takes his hand. "Let's make the most of it."

Then she spoke "technically I am happy to risk being sick thanks to you since we're in my bedroom right and you even soundly drool on it.."

Romeo chuckled, "Well, that's one way to look at it. I'm glad you're not too upset about the drooling." He gave her a playful wink.

Juliette gasp "So you are not bashful drooling in your sleep?"

Romeo blushed slightly, "Well, it's not something I usually brag about, but it seems even heroes have their moments of vulnerability, don't they?"

Juliette snuggle close to him "well , true you see yourself as a hero? Well you did save some time from boring lecture from my father about our family business especially when soon I may need a partner..an arranged one.."

Romeo chuckled softly, "I may not have a fancy title, but if I can save you from a boring lecture, then I suppose I can play the part of your 'knight in shining armor.' And about that arranged partner, maybe we can find a way to change that fate too."

Juliette exhales "Yeah yet did I save you as the heroine of your dreams from a day back to your home? Was there something boring about it?"

Romeo grinned, "No, you were the heroine of my dreams. That day was anything but boring because of you." He kissed her forehead, feeling grateful for the time they were spending together.

Then he still has a raspy voice "still thanks to my fever I get to know you're good at cooking , ughh. Shucks..I am bad at cooking since servants do it for me and Mother never lets me risk making a mess as a child.."

Juliette chuckled, "Well, maybe it's time for you to learn a new skill. Cooking can be quite fun, and who knows, you might surprise yourself." She gave him an affectionate look.

Romeo blush as he intimately gaze back "Still…is there anything I shall teach you? Like pretty sure you are not taught the arts of combat right?"

Juliette raised an eyebrow playfully, "Oh, you think so? Well, you might be surprised. I've had some fencing lessons, and I can handle a dagger quite well." She smirked, teasing him.

Romeo gasp "really?" Sadly sighs "is there anything else useful I can teach you , that you can't do?"

Juliette smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Well, there is one thing," she said in a soft, teasing tone, "you could teach me how to play that lute of yours. I've always found music fascinating."

He smiles as his elven ears perk up a bit , even childish dilated eyes "Really? It is tricky though tuning the string , the right wood and what kind of song or beat.."

Juliette chuckled softly. "I'm sure it's not easy, but I'd love to learn from you. It would be something special you and I could share." She shifted closer to him, her gaze warm and inviting. "Besides, I've always believed that music can touch the soul in a way nothing else can."

Romeo with a determined gaze "before we fall asleep.." he hugs her "I may not have my lute with me right now yet I can sing for us a lullaby to bed.."

Juliette smiled, feeling content in his embrace. "I would love that, Romeo." She settled in, letting the sound of his voice and the melody of his lullaby carry them both into a peaceful slumber, their hearts intertwined in a timeless moment.

She discovers something new , his voice is so angelic and sweet and even his melody has a hint that his own mother sings it for him that she never heard before such a pretty elven language as she yawns

As Juliette drifted into sleep, she couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of Romeo's voice and the enchanting melody he sang. It was a lullaby that transcended time and space, wrapping her in its comforting embrace. In that moment, she felt closer to him than ever before, and the mysteries of their intertwined destinies only deepened.

Then as she awoke , She giggled as her terrace window left a letter as Romeo already vanish for she trust as she sniffs the bed of her own and the letter of the remains of her lover in his way to safety to prevent conflict

The letter from Romeo served as a bittersweet reminder of their connection. With a smile on her face, Juliette knew that their love would continue to defy the odds, even if they had to part ways for now. She held onto that hope and the memories they had created, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

The Nurse Nana knock if Juliette is ready for dinner as Juliette nodded and hid the letter to her desk , while Romeo while discreetly wearing his mask and attire from the Ball with bedhair by his bedroom window awkwardly met his mother that has a frown as he spoke "Ahh Hello mother what brings you here?"

Romeo's mother, Lady Montague, seemed displeased as she replied, "Romeo, you've been spending so much time on your own lately. Your father and I are concerned about your well-being. Is something troubling you, my son?"

Romeo tried to maintain a casual demeanor, "Oh, no, Mother, I'm just exploring and getting some fresh air. Everything is perfectly fine."

Lady Montague continued to study her son, clearly not entirely convinced, but for now, she didn't press further.

Yet she says with worry and hugs him "Well I am just glad your bestfriend told me your sickness is treated with a trusted household under the name Ravenscroft..I trust that maiden taken care of you well." Romeo was busy daydreaming how Juliette nurse him as he blush "Yeah she did-" mother smirks "Oh what's this-" Romeo stops "No no , don't assume anything!!! I wasn't paying attention what is that household again?"

Lady Montague chuckled, "Very well, my dear. Ravenscroft is indeed a trusted household. I'm just glad you're in good care. Now, come to dinner, and we can talk more about your day later."

Romeo breathed a sigh of relief as he followed his mother to the dining room, keeping his secret encounter with Juliette safe for now.

Then the ever neutral father Lord Montague spoke "Romeo , come here my son…how is the fever faring?"

Romeo took a seat at the dinner table and replied, "Father, it's much better, thanks to the care I received at the Ravenscroft household. I'm feeling quite well now."

Mother spoke to tease "and their only maiden Rosalina probably nurse him too well"

Romeo tried to divert the conversation away from any romantic suspicions. "Honestly, Mother, it was their remedies and care that helped me recover quickly. I'm grateful for their assistance." (Ughh I wish the effort was credited to Juliette)

She notice that he really got to avoid that "well anyways , come now you are also just in time to discuss the time your father allowed you to help him handle Noble duties , with commoners , other classes like ours and avoid future conflicts enemies.."

Romeo nodded, and as he sat down with his family to discuss these duties, he couldn't help but steal glances at the hidden letter from Juliette. In the midst of noble affairs and his role in preventing future conflicts, his heart held a secret that bound him to the Capulet maiden.

Meanwhile , Juliette was asked by her parents during Lunch why is she such a happy mood today.

Juliette, trying to conceal her joy, simply replied, "I've been enjoying my studies, and the weather is lovely today." She didn't want to reveal the true reason behind her happiness, the secret letter from Romeo hidden safely in her desk.

The Nurse Nana added "well yesterday Rosalina did visit as a friend to my lady and oddly enough she even got protective of her room than usual.."

Juliette nodded, "Yes, I appreciate Rosalina's visit. She's been a good friend, and we had a pleasant conversation. That might be why I'm in a good mood." She kept the secret of Romeo's presence and their intimate moments in her bedroom, not wanting to reveal too much.

They nodded happily as The father sighs "Still Juliette I shall test you what are the fundamentals of our family business?"

Juliette replied confidently, "Father, the fundamentals of our family business involve trade and negotiation with various classes of society. We are known for our successful deals in importing and exporting goods, and our reputation for fair and honest trade practices. Our family is also involved in some financial ventures and investments to ensure the growth of our wealth and influence in the city."

The Mother added "and when dealing with rival markets and possibly when encountering a Montague?"

Juliette continued, "When dealing with rival markets and, in particular, the Montagues, we should exercise caution and diplomacy. It's crucial to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor to prevent any conflicts. Open lines of communication and negotiations should be pursued, and we should focus on finding common ground and mutually beneficial agreements. Avoiding hostilities and working toward peaceful coexistence is in the best interest of our family's reputation and prosperity."

They clap as the Nurse spoke "Splending my lady now , it seems study is well right the Capulets?"

Juliette nodded and smiled, "Yes, Nurse Nana. I've been studying diligently and learning the ins and outs of our family's business. I believe it's essential to be well-prepared for the responsibilities that lie ahead."

As they elegantly ate , the Mother ask "well dear how was the ball two nights ago was? Is it also amusing outside getting to know business ventures?"

Juliette smiled as she recalled the ball, "The ball was quite enjoyable, Mother. I had the pleasure of meeting some interesting people, and it was a welcome break from the usual business matters. Though, I must admit that handling business ventures can also be fascinating, in its own way."

She was smitten as she can't stop daydreaming about Romeo she uttered "Still , why can't we have a mutual relationship with the Montague at present?"

The parents exchanged glances, and the Father spoke, "Well, Juliette, it's not a simple matter. The feud between our families runs deep, and while it would be wonderful to have peace, there's much history to overcome. Besides, there are ongoing tensions and disagreements between the Montagues and Capulets, and it's not always easy to bridge those gaps."

The Mother added "and I heard they had an only son , you have to be careful if that heir can try to pursue you and spark conflict..since I doubt he is a kind noble deserving of my daughter's grace.."

Juliette sighed, her thoughts filled with memories of the previous timeline. "I understand your concerns, Mother, but not all members of a family are the same. What if this time is different, and we can find a way to coexist peacefully?"

They blink in surprise "what makes you say that?" JULIETTE blush and whistles as she eat and drink "maybe the son of the Montague Isn't as close minded as earlier generations.."

Her father and mother exchange glances, clearly intrigued by their daughter's change in perspective. They continued to discuss the possibilities, both worried yet cautiously optimistic about a potential new era of cooperation between the Capulets and the Montagues.

Then , shift with Romeo eating with his parents and ask "Mother..Father why can't we go beyond mutual distant business trade with the Capulets yet in general still rival or against them?"

Romeo's parents exchange knowing glances, understanding the deeper meaning of their son's question. His father, Lord Montague, spoke, "My son, the rivalry between our families has a long history. While it may not always be fair, it's deeply ingrained in our society. But times change, and perhaps it's not impossible to imagine a future where we can coexist peacefully with the Capulets."

His mother added, "Romeo, you have always been the voice of reason. If you believe there's a chance for a different path, perhaps you can be the one to bridge that gap."

Romeo nodded, determined to explore the possibilities of a more harmonious future between the Montagues and the Capulets.

Then the father ask "why brought this up? I shall warn currently the family is known for cunning business and deceit , their only heir a daughter may not even find a suitable partner thanks to her status and reputation of such a family"

Romeo replied, "Father, I believe that the sins of the past do not have to dictate our future. If we can find common ground and establish trust, perhaps both our families can benefit. Besides, it's not the daughter's fault for the family's reputation. I think we should give her a chance."

His mother chimed in, "Your words are wise, Romeo. If you believe there's hope for reconciliation, it's worth pursuing. Just be cautious and considerate in your endeavors."

Romeo nodded, feeling a renewed sense of purpose to work towards a more peaceful coexistence between the Montagues and the Capulets.

Romeo nods "thank you , father and mother" as they continue eating , the Mother cooed "what makes you say it isn't the girl's fault? Do you think she won't take advantage persay of people of higher class to increase her status?"

Romeo replied, "Mother, I don't know her personally, but I believe in giving everyone a fair chance. People can change and prove their worth, regardless of their background. It's possible that she may be different from the stereotypes associated with her family. Besides, I have my own experiences to draw upon, and they tell me that we should be open to understanding and compassion."

His father nodded in agreement, "Your son has a point, my dear. We must be open to the possibility of change and growth. Let's not be too quick to judge."

Romeo's words and his parents' understanding left a sense of optimism in the air, as they continued their meal, pondering the potential for a better future between their families.

Romeo's inner turmoil was evident, as he realized just how different he had become in this timeline. He now had a deeper understanding of Juliette, and his feelings for her were genuine. It was a relief that he managed to keep his composure and not reveal too much about his affection for her. This newfound discretion was a sign of his growth and maturity. He was determined to continue getting to know Juliette and, hopefully, find a way to bridge the gap between their families without causing conflict.

Nurse Nana couldn't help but notice that Juliette was working exceptionally hard in the kitchen. She approached her, a curious expression on her face, and asked, "My lady, you seem to be putting in extra effort today. Is there a special occasion or a particular reason for your dedication in the kitchen?"

Juliette spoke slyly "ahh yes , I am planning a personal picnic outside my terrace and feed the natural birds you know how I get uneasy mostly staying indoors when there's no business to attend to"

Nurse Nana nodded, understanding Juliette's need for fresh air and a change of scenery. "That sounds like a wonderful idea, my lady. I'll make sure to prepare everything you need for your picnic. And I'm sure the birds will appreciate your generosity."

Then Juliette nods and internally panics and relieve she didn't blank out or slip of the tongue as she used to be a passive romantic so to speak she thought and always excited if every she and Romeo can discreetly meet again this time with proper preparation and get to know him better

Now finally after noon or sunset the bestfriend of Romeo ask in his personal bedroom out of curiosity "Say ''twas like dear friend? Me and Rosalina work hard for the cover yesterday and I mean how was your first Ball meeting in this NEW timeline as you say like? Was it new? The same?"

Romeo chuckled as he recalled the masquerade ball and how it differed from the original timeline. "It was different, Mercutio. The feeling of meeting Juliette again was... indescribable. We're both aware of our past, and it's like rediscovering the magic of our connection. It wasn't just a simple dance; it felt like the start of something new, something beautiful. I can't explain it fully, but I'm looking forward to more moments like that."

And he added to ramble "and I realize I barely get to know her in the original..when realizing that I just am relieve I wasn't my original timeline self.."

Mercutio nodded in understanding. "It's fascinating how this new timeline is giving both of you a chance to truly get to know each other on a deeper level. It's like destiny has given you a second chance, Romeo. I'm happy for you, my friend."

Romeo winks "No I am grateful for you dear friend to compromise our promise to keep this secret even though it's unorthodox to believe.."

Mercutio chuckled. "Well, what are friends for, Romeo? We'll continue to support you in this newfound adventure. And who knows, maybe we can find a way to make things work between the Montagues and Capulets in this timeline."

And he smirks "Plus , judging from your stature. what did change between the two of you?"

Romeo's smile widens as he recounts his experiences. "Everything, Mercutio. We're getting to know each other better, and it feels like we're building something stronger, something more profound. It's like a new beginning for us, and I'm loving every moment of it."

Mercutio chuckles "ahh Romeo ever the lovebird , well anyways shall I cover for you again as it seems your preparing to sneak out again.."

Romeo nods with gratitude. "Yes, please, Mercutio. I can't help it; I need to see her again. Just ensure everything's in order if my parents ask."

Mercutio shrugs "Don't worry my charisma and being entrusted as your future right hand man is understandable.." they give a nod and thumbs up as Romeo prepare a different blue and cool attire for fantasy travel (he wore his ball-mask for discretion)

Romeo smiles at Mercutio's assurance and proceeds to get ready for his discreet meeting with Juliette. Once he's prepared, he sneaks out, hoping to see her again and continue their newfound connection.

Then , Juliette as sunset occurred happily open her terrace window and munch on her bake snack to taste test and read the letter Romeo left her to see what is contained.

The letter from Romeo reads:

"My Dearest Juliette,

Meeting you at the ball was a dream come true. These moments with you feel like a treasure that I don't want to lose. The fever may have been a trial, but it led me to discover a side of you that I cherish more with each passing day.

I wanted to express my gratitude for your kindness and care during my illness. You have shown me your incredible strength and skills, beyond what I imagined. You're not just the lady I met at the ball; you're a remarkable, capable, and kind person.

I long to see you again, and I promise to keep our connection a secret. Until we meet once more, my heart is yours, my beloved Juliette.

Yours forever,

Romeo"

Juliette blushes as she finishes reading the letter, her heart filled with warmth and anticipation for their next secret meeting. She knows that their connection is growing deeper, and she can't wait to see Romeo again.

Then she discreetly hide the letter for safekeep reading before almost tripping her picnic basket on the ground then gasp in relieve seeing a silhouette grab it and had a familiar voice "Oh you drop this-"

She looked up and saw Romeo's masked face, his eyes full of warmth and humor. He handed her the picnic basket with a gentle smile.

Juliette chuckled, her heart racing, and replied, "Thank you, kind stranger. You have truly saved the day." She couldn't help but admire how handsome he looked in his masked disguise.

Romeo's voice was laced with playfulness as he said, "A knight in disguise, at your service, my lady." They shared a moment, their eyes locked behind their masks, the unspoken connection between them growing stronger with each encounter.

Juliette giggles as she is in her casual aristocratic attire and no mask with bed hair and no accessories for she spoke "Okay do you want us to have a picnic sir blue mask knight by my terrace or down there in my family garden?"

Romeo grinned behind his mask, loving the playful atmosphere between them. "Why, my lady, the garden sounds like a splendid choice. A change of scenery may bring new adventures," he replied, his voice warm and full of anticipation.

With that settled, they descended to the Capulet family garden, a place of beauty and serenity. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the lush greenery, and birds were singing in the background. They found a cozy spot on a blanket and began their picnic, all the while sharing stories and laughter as if they had known each other for a lifetime.

Then as they walk they saw little pixies glowing like fireflies at the garden as Juliette hush them for They twinkle as the pair hold hand in hand with the picnic basket she spoke "So Romeo how was returning to your household like?"

Romeo squeezed her hand gently as they walked through the garden. "Returning home felt a bit surreal, I must admit. My parents were concerned about my fever but thankfully didn't pry too much. It's different from what I'm used to, but today, being here with you feels more like home to me," he said with a genuine smile.

Juliette blush "ahh yeah , and we both manage to cover eachother up although I feel bad as our parents probably sees a version of eachother because of enemy family this and only heir to each to also do the same way.."

Romeo nodded, understanding the complexity of their situation. "I know it's not ideal, but I hope we can make a difference, even a small one, in how our families perceive each other. And who knows, maybe one day they'll understand that our love is genuine, and it can bridge the gap between the Montagues and Capulets," he said optimistically.

Juliette chuckles as she let Romeo casually prepare a picnic mat to sit on before laying out their meal for he spoke "Still , I can't believe I never properly get to know you like you good at cooking.." Juliette kiss his lips a bit "Say , you write fast in that letter earlier or left pretty much early when I am in slumber.."

Romeo smiled as he settled the picnic mat and food. "I left the letter while you were still asleep. I didn't want to disturb your rest, so I thought it was the best way to communicate my thoughts," he explained. "And about the cooking, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I guess there are many things we're learning about each other now."

Juliette and Him finally sat down leaning eachother "well I realize you can be some sort of fashion designer if you made that attire or help illustrate it with your mask as well..so crafty.."

Romeo chuckled, "You're right, I do enjoy craftsmanship and design. But I must admit, I've been inspired by your elegance and style as well. It's like we're bringing out the best in each other, isn't it?" They shared a smile as they enjoyed their picnic in the garden.

As they eat and drink their fruit juice with enjoyment , once their fingers touch to take that last slice of Juliette Indigo-jelly pie..they blush and gaze at eachother (Romeo now mask off)

Their fingers touching the last slice of pie sent a jolt of electricity through both of them. They blushed, their eyes locked onto each other's. Romeo's hand gently caressed Juliette's as they both reached for the slice, their fingers intertwining. The moment was filled with a sweet and intimate tension as they shared the last bite of the delicious pie, savoring not only the taste but the connection between them.

Juliette couldn't help but giggle when she noticed the jam stain on Romeo's lips. She reached out, her thumb gently wiping away the smudge as she teased, "You really enjoy that pie, don't you?" Romeo blushed and chuckled in response, feeling grateful for these sweet and intimate moments they were sharing.

Then he notice some crumbs on her cheek from their sandwich as well "eager eating together from your cooking aren't we?"

Juliette blushed as she realized the crumbs on her cheek. She chuckled and playfully replied, "I guess we both got carried away with the delicious food. You know, it's not every day that I get to cook for someone as special as you." They shared a warm smile, their bond growing stronger with each passing moment.

Romeo blinks "wait you really never cook for someone before and wait why didn't I get to experience your cooking in the original timeline?"

Juliette sighed and looked a bit wistful as she explained, "In the original timeline, I was more reserved and never had the opportunity to cook for someone special. But this time, things are different. I want to share these moments with you, to get to know you better, and to create beautiful memories together." She gently reached out and brushed the crumbs off his cheek.
