As I turned my head I could see we were comming closer to where a gate should be. At the pace we were going, which was very slow, we would be there in about 45ish minutes.
"So! Deadra or more precisely Dedric princes. I will admit I don't know all of them off the top of my head but to name the more important ones to think about and are more active should be enough."
"As I spoke earlier we have Sheogorath. An interesting one at this time because he is cursed for now. In reality he's two different princes. The curse given to him by the other princes causes him to not be able to be in his proper form if you will. He is Jygglag, Dedric Prince of Order. Every couple of eons he is able to take form once more and causes the greymarch. This event if you will causes the destruction of the Shivering Isles. When it's over he changes back into Sheogorath and the cycle begins anew."
With a bit of wonder in his voice Shiroe interrupts me, "So he is both order and chaos? Just how powerful is he then?"
"As far as Jyggalag goes he is one of the most powerful as his concept breaks into a lot of the other domains. It's most likely the reason he was cursed in the first place, but with his duality now he is more unstable and always at war with himself. At least for now untill the mantle of Sheogorath gets replaced in the comming events." I replied.
"And how does that work? Becoming a god an all?" Shiroe's voice a bit in awe of such a possibility.
Thinking for a second on how to word it I say, "To walk in their shoes. To follow in their steps. To keep walking untill there's no difference between themselves. That is what it means to become a Dedric Prince. You keep going till you are them and they are you. It consumes the person you were; till you are the god in question. There's still a lot of ritualistic aspects of it such as doing tasks that represent the god in question but that's all I got."
"Damn, this place gets crazier by the moment. Might as well hurry up on the others though before I just write us off now."
"Yeah, yeah. I'll quick fire the ones I know. Just their name and titles. You can ask if you have a question later.
Mehrunes Dagon - Destruction, anger, energy, and ambition. Just recently tried to take over here.
Meridia - light and life. Really hates undead, sees it as a profane of her domain.
The tribunal of the Dunmer- Azura, Mephala, and Boethiah.
Azura - Dusk, Dawn, and Magic. Credited with devolving the Chimer into the Dunmer and also creating the khajiit, basically cat people of different sizes and shapes.
Mephala - secrets and lies are her thing. Nickname is the webspinner of that gives contexts for you.
Boethiah - don't know much about her but her name. Values survival of the fittest I think? Not to sure.
Molag Bal - Dedric prince of Domination. He's also the one who created vampires. The ones considered the strongest would be the daughters of Cold harbor. But they've got to be the most tragic as how they are made isn't pretty.
Hircine - The Dedric Prince of the Hunt. He is the father of the were-species, such as wearwolves, and sportsmanship. He likes fairness in his own twisted ways.
Nocturnal - the night and the shadows are her domain. A quick thing to remember is her title of Night Mistress is not the same as the Night Mother. Two separate entities and also two different factions. She has her influence on the Thieves guild as their patron.
The last I can remember!!!
Clavicus vile - Dedric Price of Deals. Think about a genie or a djin and you have a close approximation to how he does things. For the love of all things holy never make a deal with him. Any questions?"
Turning his head deadpanning at me from the corner of his eyes. I was almost scared he would just drop me. "So many but we're close and I still need more info on the people of this world. So I'll ask more when we're in a more secure place.
"Fine by me, then races can be split into three types if you will. Human, Mer, and animal I guess. For humans we start with the Nords. Basically Vikings with resistance to cold built into them. Then we have the Redguards. Tanned to look almost dark red they are notorious for using scimitar blades or curved swords as they are called here. Imperials are pretty much Roman Empire redone legions and all. Their home providence is where we are now and it's called Cyrodil. When we get a map I could explain more but for now you can think of this as the middle of a continent. Lastly we have the Bretons. This race is a bit different as they have High Elven or Altimer in their ancestry. High affinity with magic and Daggerfall is basically magical Britain but much more infighting."
He hummed at my last statement but I wasn't going to take that back. Especially after seeing the video of that one knight take on the adventurer party single handily like that. They were bad ass but still their politics were a mess.
"Whelp, on to the Mer races. There are three main races among the elves. The Altimer, Bosmer, and Dunmer. To the rest of us with they were more commonly known as high elves, wood elves, and dark elves. Stereotypical for the first two for there likes and dislikes. High elves are more often the racist types though. Wood elves like their forests but are still on the more friendly side all things considered. Dark elves are a weird middle ground though. Due to their tribunal they seek to emulate a lot of those characteristics of their patrons to the other races and themselves. They do look down on the other races but still can hold respect for individuals who prove their competence. By the way if one calls you a na'wah they are calling you an idiot or an equivalent to it." I heard a faint remark from him, "Sounds like a fun word to use."
Choosing not to open the can of worms there, I continue, "There are also two other Mer types. But as far as I know Azura made one set disappear off the face of Tamriel. Basically the Dwemer were dwarves, great craftsman and all. The Falmer though, once known as the snow elves are now just blind goblins living in the dark caves and Dwemer ruins. They got enslaved by both the Nords and later the Dwemer. Then they degenerated to those… things" a shudder running though me remembering dungeon diving in the Skyrim game.
"Steering away from those creepy things, we have the two animal races. The khajiit and the Argonians. The khajiit are a collective of cat like people and the more cat like variety that can come in a number of shapes and colors. The type of Khajiit you will be born as is defined by the moon's shape. Azura is their patron as well but goes by a slightly altered name. The main three you can find are the more humanoid Khajiit, the more saber cat sized ones, and the cait sith type or tiny cat person for the uncultured." My smug grin could be felt it seems because he decided to adjust the "backpack" at that moment. With a hiss at the spike of pain I continued.
"Argonians, think of your classic lizard man but a little more upright humanoid and you got a good picture of them. They like to worship the Hist trees which are more a collective will of an outer god or entity named Sithis. Not to be confused with a Dedric Prince and more like an outer god. He controls the void. He was the one who probably let us into this universe now that I think on it. We got in way to easy all things considered." Well, I'll probably unpack that later after the absurdity truly sets in.
"Last but not least an honorable mention. The Akaviri or Akavir is another continent that includes 4 other races but the important part is that the humans of them have gone extinct besides the ones who settled here and joined as the Blades serving the Emperor's guards. Their culture is remarkably similar to the east of our worlds with katanas as one of the main weapons there. Sadly only beast races supposedly exist there now."
In response Shiroe said, "Ok I think I have a general overview on our situation but what's the plan for our identities? From what you said we will probably look out of place right?"
"I'm thinking for one we are half brothers, different moms same dad. Your skin tone is decently close to a Redguard so your mom would be one. With how pale I am we can go with a Breton or Nord for me. Would rather go with Breton since it helps with the whole magic thing. Lastly our dead beat and gone dad was a retired Blade. Didn't know him and found each other by chance. My mom being the mage type teleporting us to Cyrodill to escape the oblivion crisis at its peak would gain some sympathy from the local imperials would be nice though."
"Sound enough, and not to many holes that could be checked either. The most we would have to deal with is the Blades when they come knocking but we can just claim ignorance. Smart." With a bit of praise from him he picked up his steps and turned slightly on the road. Turning my head I noticed we were now headed directly to the walled city. We were almost there. The white gold city of Cyrodil.
