Chapter 1 - The Unspoken Truth

"Loike! Where are you, you scoundrel?" Meúl's voice echoed through the air and the boat like a loud horn, her frustration evident in every syllable. Not even a sharp blade could be compared with her irritation. The crew of the Crimson Fury paused in their tasks, exchanging knowing glances as they listened to their captain's words. Feeling a bit worried, Finn the Quartermaster and Mara the navigator looked at each other as Finn plugged Blackjack the parrot's ears.

"He's done it now, Loike is a goner for sure," Finn muttered to Mara, a sarcastic smile playing at the corners of his lips as he tried to keep Blackjack within his grasp. "The captain's not one to be kept waiting, especially on her days."

Mara laughed quietly. "She's not on her days, Finn, but I agree with you, she is not the type to be patient." Her expression was a mixture of amusement and concern. "Let's hope he has a good explanation for disappearing like that," she replied, her voice tinged with uncertainty and worry.

As Meúl's voice carried across the ship, echoing through the walls of the great Crimson Fury, the crew exchanged nervous glances, bracing themselves for the inevitable confrontation. Whatever Loike's excuse, it was clear that their captain's wrath would be swift and merciless. Bryn, the chef, was cooking some food and heard the angry voice, slightly burning his thumb on the stove. Erik, the carpenter of the boat, laughed at the sudden girly sound Bryn made.

"You sound like Sahara on her sparring session with Sasha," Erik said, laughing, as he slightly stabbed his finger with the stick he was sharpening. "Seems like the orange protector of the trees ain't too happy with you." Laughing, they both stopped for a second. "Seems like the captain ain't too happy with him. He probably has done it now, ain't it?" He could only smile and giggle at the thought of Loike having the conversation during dinner with the captain on the port of the boat. Erik nodded with a smile. "He probably has a good enough excuse for this, if not, he probably has done it now, to be honest."

The echoes of Meúl's voice reached Loike's ears on the perch high in the crow's nest. Loike gazed out at the vast expanse of the sea, the salty breeze tousling his hair as he leaned against the railing. The sun hung low on the horizon, casting a golden glow across the water and painting the sky in shades of pink and orange.

Despite the urgency of their upcoming voyage, Loike couldn't help but savor this fleeting moment of tranquility. The ceaseless bustle of life aboard the ship seemed to fade away, replaced by the soothing rhythm of the waves and the gentle creaking of the rigging.

As he watched the horizon, a faint smile tugged at the corners of Loike's lips, his thoughts drifting to his past, remembering a lost lover to the sea. For all the dangers of life as a pirate, there were moments like this—moments of freedom and possibility, and moments where your life is the spark that ignites the cannons—that made it all worthwhile.

But even as he savored the peace of the moment, Loike remained ever vigilant, his eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of danger. As first mate of the Crimson Fury, it was his duty to ensure the safety of the crew, and he took that responsibility seriously. Even if he disappeared often on long trips, so he could take a much-needed break.

The deck of the Crimson Fury bustled with activity as Meúl's crew prepared for their next voyage. Among them were Finn, Mara, Bryn, Erik, Sasha, and Sahara, moving crates and training for their next stop.

"Have you seen Loike by any chance?" Sahara muttered to Mara, casting a wary glance around the deck. "I heard he was on the lookout since last night."

Mara shook her head, her brow furrowed with worry. "The captain's not too pleased about it," she replied, her voice low. "I wouldn't want to be in his shoes when she finds him."

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, Meúl's agitation grew, her frustration mounting with each passing moment. Where could Loike be? He was never one to disappear without a word, and his absence was beginning to gnaw at her nerves. Especially after the last incident, where he was found on the starboard side of the ship drunk.

Just as Meúl was about to demand answers from her crew, a shadow descended from the rigging above. With a graceful flourish, Loike landed behind her, his presence sending a ripple of relief through the assembled sailors.

Meúl whirled around, her eyes flashing with a mixture of relief and annoyance. "There you are, you scoundrel," she snapped, her voice laced with irritation. "Do you have any idea how long I've been searching for you?" Grabbing his coat with her left eye twitching from anger.

Loike merely grinned in response, his easygoing demeanor serving to further fuel Meúl's frustration. "My apologies, my beautiful captain," he said, his voice smooth as silk. "I was attending to some last-minute preparations and some lookout duty."

Meúl's temper flared at his casual attitude, but before she could unleash her fury, Finn spoke up. "But where were you, Loike? After all, you seem to have disappeared since last night," he asked, his tone laced with curiosity. "We searched the entire ship and couldn't find hide nor hair of you." Sasha said with a hint of surprise.

Loike's grin widened, and he winked at Sasha. "Just a bit of business to attend to, nothing to worry about," he replied cryptically, his blue eyes twinkling with mischief and his smile shining like a star in the night.

Meúl's frustration simmered beneath the surface as she watched the exchange, a nagging feeling of unease settling in the pit of her stomach. Something wasn't right; she could feel it in her bones.

Loike smiled and smirked a little. "Seems like you really have a tight grip on me, captain. It's not like I'm leaving you or anything. After all, you're my only captain!" Meúl's face mixed with anger and embarrassment; she looked at Loike in his deep blue eyes and loosely held his coat. "You!!…." She sighed in defeat and stopped holding him. After all, she couldn't be that mad, right? "Go and finish your work, Loike," watching him walk off and start to help at other parts of the ship. But for now, she pushed aside her feelings and doubts, focusing instead on the journey that lay ahead.

The Crimson Fury itself was a sight to behold, a sleek and formidable vessel with blood-red sails that billowed in the wind like the wings of a giant bird. Its decks were lined with cannons, polished to a gleaming shine, and its figurehead—a fierce-looking dragon with ruby-red eyes—struck fear into the hearts of all who dared to cross its path.

As for Meúl, she was a force to be reckoned with, a fierce and fearless leader with a heart as wild and untamed as the sea itself. Her fiery temper was legendary among her crew, but beneath her tough exterior lay a deep well of loyalty, compassion, a soft spot for Looke, and respect who earned her trust.

And then there was Loike, her enigmatic first mate, whose easy smile and quick wit belied a depth of character that few could fathom. He was a man of mystery, with a past shrouded in secrets and a heart that beat with a longing he could never quite express.

As the Crimson Fury set sail once more, the stars twinkling overhead like diamonds scattered across the velvet sky, Meúl and Loike exchanged a knowing glance. Little did they know, their journey was about to take them on an adventure beyond their wildest dreams—one that would test their courage, their loyalty, and the unspoken bond that bound them together.
