Within the instance dungeon known as scorpion's valley Alsvid stood tall and alone. The world within the dungeon despite being large was very small with the tallest plants just reaching under his neck. He had full view of the entire valley which included the impossibly large mountains and hills off in the distance. He suspected that the world was actually large, at a point he even thought what he was walking through was just grass but soon shook that idea out of his mind.
As he looked around he spotted a clearing a little bit of distance away from him so he started walking towards it. As he went he heard a few of the plants rustle. He saw something move in the distance and started running towards the clearing to for his enemy out of the plants. Till now he still didn't know which type of plants they were. Making it to the clearing he stood at the center, it was quite a wide clearing able to comfortably fit twenty human beings at once. Soon whatever was following him split into two more moving patches and started circling the clearing.
"He said to practice my skills and not worry about the essence cost. I think I should test the first skill." Alsvid said to himself.
He thought about the skill name but nothing happened. He tried to come up with random affects for the skill, still nothing happened.
"Essence burst." He called out and still nothing happened.
That's when he remembered a bit of Adam's training. Closing his eyes and concentrating he channelled essence through his entire body. He only realized how useless that was after opening his eyes and realizing he can't exactly reach whatever was in the bushes. While he was still trying to use his skill, his vision suddenly, for a split second, went dark and returned. He felt a bit of impact from behind but didn't feel pain. He turned around to see what happened and the same thing happened. Trying to see whatever was causing that he quickly spun around only for his vision to go dark one more time, but unlike the first two times, there was the sound of shattering followed by a sharp pain in his left side that sent him flying to the edge of the clearing.
He got up onto his feet as he started bleeding from his left side just under his armpit. The blood soiled his blue shirt as he was still looking for whatever did that. He heard a rustle and dashed from where he was standing but whatever was coming was faster. It pierced his right leg as he fell to the ground. He managed to get to the center of the clearing as he heard the rustling again.
'Dammit, what is with these so called mentors and not helping their student when their in danger.' He thought to himself.
He heard movement in the grass as he looked around frantically. As he looked around he saw something escape the vegetation at a high speed as he rolled out of the way. He got back on his feet and looked around.
"All this vegetation, it's disorienting." He said to himself and keep looking around.
He heard the rustling again and turned just in time to see something escape from the vegetation again. He was spooked and threw out a fist reinforced with essence just as Adam taught him. The problem was, he had rushed the preparation again. His fist clashed with whatever it was that was heading towards him and what followed was a large amount of essence that escaped from his arm in the direction of whatever it was. His instinct was to stop the flow and he started the process, then he heard the sound of a creature in pain and pushed his essence forward until the sound stopped then he stopped.
The area in front of him was decimated. Most of the vegetation was gone and the land itself was scorched but what he saw made his heart drop. Absolutely nothing. Despite the large destruction he caused, there was absolutely nothing. He was expecting a dead creature but there was nothing. He heard the rustling again and his mind flew into a panic. He saw the three moving objects and then he noticed one was moving extremely slower than the rest. With no second thought he threw out his fist and essence followed. He missed the creature. He looked around some more and once he saw movement he fired immediately. Still nothing. Then as if the world was mocking him the wind started blowing causing the intact areas to move vigorously. He was almost about to give up when a attack came from a patch of grass separated by his attacks. He wasted no time clashing with it and let the essence flow until it could no longer.
He had destroyed almost half the entire vegetation surrounding the clearing and at this moment he had run out of essence but to him he achieved something. In the middle of the destroyed area lay a giant scorpion whose body was decimated. Parts of its body wear detached from it and its stinger had evaporated. It was dead. He slowly hobbled over but as he approached, two more stingers exited the vegetation all aiming for him.
There was nothing he could do about it. He was too injured and was completely out of essence. All he could do was accept his fate. One stinger pierced his stomach while the other pierced his chest. It was also at this moment that he realized that the scorpions were poisonous but there was nothing he could do. The first stinger pulled itself out while the second lifted him into the air as he was pulled into the grass. A horrifying mouth that clearly didn't belong to a scorpion was what greeted him as his whole head was bitten off.
