The journey continued with Nathaniel killing every Bullock they came across with his two skills, which he had happily named charged dropkick and essence burst. Although he had gotten used to his dropkick being able to recover quickly from it, he was still lost on how to control the burst, he had no reason to worry about essence but as he used the skill he realized that a little strain was starting to form within him forcing him to worry. Just like the past few minutes of this journey, another Bullock could be seen a distance away which Nathaniel tried to kill, normally he would start of with the dropkick and end it with a burst but this time he decided to change things. He walked up to the Bullock while Adam, just like all other times, left him behind and kept walking. He got close enough to the Bullock for it to come charging at him, he pulled back his arm, formed a fist and thrust it forward while letting his essence run wild. What followed was a small but powerful burst of silver essence which the Bullock ran right into and died right after.
"Huh, so I could have saved myself the trouble of dropkicking if I had just begun with the burst, why did I wait till now to try that."
He then snapped out of his thoughts and rushed to catch up to Adam. For the next few encounters he just kept one tapping all Bullocks he met. Most of the journey was extremely uneventful and boring even for Nathaniel who was busy killing any Bullock he saw in the grasslands, this prompted him to ask Adam a question to try and start a conversation.
"Hey Adam, I have a question, why is it that we've only been meeting Bullocks this entire journey and no others?"
"That's because every spire type has a specified territory which they exist in and nothing other than outside interference can force them to move."
"Are you sure that's correct, my father told me of wonderful locations where multiple different types of beasts hung out, plus how would a stable ecosystem exist if all that was available were one type of species?"
"Am not sure what locations you are referring to."
"Oh, these secluded territories where people would go to hunt spires, I think they were called du... Huh."
Before Nathaniel could finish his statement something interesting happened, it had nothing to do with the surroundings but rather with Alsvid who was in Adam's arms and Adam himself. While Nathaniel was speaking Adam had stopped abruptly and fallen on his knees, this sudden change causing Alsvid's body to hit the ground hard. Holy saint which was floating high above Adam's head had disappeared as the last bit of essence it had flew into Alsvid's body. Nathaniel looked at Adam who had a blank expression on his face that lasted for a few seconds before he managed to snap himself out of it. Quickly crawling over to Alsvid's body Adam flipped the body onto its back as the chest could be seen slowly rising and falling. Adam had run out of essence during a crucial part of Alsvid's healing process.
"No no no no no, Nathaniel, I need you to transfer essence to me quickly, his life depends on it!"
"Umm, sorry but you never taught me how to do that, in fact you haven't taught me much at all."
"What is there to teach just focus your essence at the point of contact and I'll do the rest!"
Without wasting any more time Adam grabbed Nathaniel's hand and started trying to forcefully borrow essence from his body, Nathaniel didn't resist the sluggish hand grab but deep within his consciousness he had not authorized the transfer of essence, this led to Adam only gaining a very little amount of essence although it was enough to summon holy saint and in his hectic state he hadn't checked how much he actually took. Quickly he resummoned holy saint as the floating priest arrived, activated it's healing skill and only managed to hold it for five solid seconds before disappearing once again. Within those five seconds Alsvid's body managed to heal all external injuries including the burnt skin. Both Adam and Nathaniel waited with batted breaths to see the result of the five second healing process as Alsvid could be seen breathing.
"Is he finally going to wake up?" Nathaniel asked
"From the stable breathing it looks like so."
Alsvid's chest was the only indication that he was breathing and it was stable, but then, disaster struck when the rise and fall of Alsvid's chest started increasing in speed, Alsvid was breathing faster, then after a few moments his chest puffed up bigger than normal as he took a large breath, exhaled and didn't inhale again. With no essence, Adam couldn't search for signs of life within Alsvid's body and so just like that, right in front of Adam, Alsvid, his first ever student, died.
Adam stood up from the ground and stood over Alsvid's body, he stood there for several minutes waiting and hoping for a miracle, but nothing of sorts happened, without saying a word he picked up Alsvid's body and started walking in the direction they were originally going to, the forest. Nathaniel silently followed behind Adam and not a single sound was made as they both kept walking.
The journey was a long one, it started out on a positive note but at this point in the journey, Nathaniel realized how much of a threat Adam was, they had been walking for a solid fifteen minutes since Alsvid's death and Adam had regained a bit of his essence, it was such a miniscule amount that one wouldn't be able to use it for anything at all. Yet he felt like that small amount was enough for Adam to kill him with it if he so decided. Apparently, the Bullocks felt the same way as they would literally start charging in a random direction to escape Adam's aura. Even though he could have easily caught up to and killed some Bullocks, Nathaniel never dared to try it and just silently followed after Adam until they could see the edge of the forest.
