Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

 Zander's POV

I ran my hands through my hair, not sure which exactly this girl was—a sycophant, a lunatic, or something else entirely—but I did know that she was damaged, and I believed she was beyond saving. I understand that everyone has their own tragedy or dark history, but I have never seen somebody like this!!

First, she attempts to burn herself alive, and now she has severely wounded her hand; what if I was not there? She could have chopped off her hands. What exactly is wrong with this girl?

"I have ordered dinner for you; come on. The doctor advised you needed to eat or you would keep fainting."I muttered this through clenched teeth. My skull was pounding so intensely because of just one chick.

"I do not feel hungry. Please leave; I would prefer to be alone."Cynthia stated she appeared to be buried in her thoughts; I hope she is not thinking about killing herself.

"No way, I am not leaving you alone. You want to hurt yourself again, do you?"Cynthia looked down at her hand, and tears streamed down her cheeks. I am not sure what made her like this or why, and I do not know how to console her, but I am not leaving her here alone; she could even pull her eyeballs out of her eyelids.

"I said leave me alone, okay? If I hurt or kill myself, it is none of your concern; you are no one to me, and I would really appreciate it if you would stay out of my business!! "Cynthia shouted, more tears spilling from her eyes.

Before I could say anything, the door was shoved open, and Nancy stepped into the room, her eyes red and her fangs protruding. Fuck!! She came here because of Cynthia's bleeding hand; I knew no pure vampire could resist her blood scent, and Nancy was no exception.

Cynthia's chin began to tremble; she swiftly sprang from the bed and stood behind me, clutching my arm tightly.

"Nancy!!! Come back to your senses, you are not going to drink her blood no matter what, so just snap out of it!! "I yelled, within a second, Nancy was right behind me and she grabbed Cynthia by her hand causing her to scream.

"Leave me! "What are you doing?"Cynthia screamed in terror, and I grabbed Nancy by the arm and pulled her to the floor; she landed with a loud thud, her fangs gone but her eyes remained red.

"Nancy, stop doing that crap!! She is my wife, and you cannot drink her blood; if you do, I will have no alternative but to get rid of you, and I will not hesitate to sever your head right now. I shouted, and Nancy's eyes returned to their normal hue. It is a good thing she came to her senses, otherwise I would have chopped her head off straight.

Cynthia was sobbing so hard, wrapping her hand around my arm, tears running down her cheeks, her once-beautiful emerald eyes crimson from crying, and her entire body quivering. I was losing my calm; I despise people who are weak like this; they make me nauseated.

"Stop crying Cynthia will you!! Nothing happened to you, I don't see why you are crying! " I snapped at her, and she swiftly pulled the grip of my arm and fled out of the room, crying.

"If you attempt to drink her blood, I will behead you and ensure that my lions enjoy it for their supper!"I responded firmly, gazing at her.

"Zander, I do not believe you should keep this girl here. She is hazardous, I am not sure why, but there is something about her that I do not understand; you should get rid of her. Nancy spoke, her cheeks going pale.

"Cynthia will remain my wife, and that is definitive; I will not get rid of her, nor will you ever try to suck her blood," I stated I could sense hurt in her eyes, but she swiftly hid it.

"Are you in love with her?"Nancy inquired, giving me a long, painful look before turning away. Her questions struck me hard, but I knew I was not in love with her, was I? Of course, I am not. I can never fall in love.

"That is none of your fucken business, and I think you should go; as you can see, I am married, and I do not think my wife would like your being here."My mind was spinning with questions to which I had no answers.

The day Cynthia found out my secret, I intended to kill her, but as soon as I laid eyes on her, her emerald eyes seized me, and her kind voice soothed my anxiety and gave me hope that maybe one day I might be loved. And each time she refers to me as a monster, my chest aches intensely! Why am I so affected by what she says? Is this really love? No, that is not conceivable; I cannot and should not fall in love.

"You are in love with her, you can deny it all you want but I've never seen you sparing anyone's life and I never saw you getting worried for anyone not even your own mom but you were worried for her and it only means one thing, love! "Nancy said.

"You are spouting rubbish!"I said and made my way out of the room. Deep down, I hope what she said was not true; I cannot fall in love, especially with that weakling girl. I had only one objective in this world: retribution, and I did not want anyone to come in my way emotionally.

When I got to the dining room, I could not see Cynthia, so I went to look for her in the kitchen. I frowned as I approached the kitchen; the lights had been turned off. I swiftly turned them on, only to see Cynthia seated in her corner, gripping her knees, her body shivering and shaking, and her eyes filled with sorrow.

"Why are you sitting here alone in the dark?" Didn't you say you are terrified of the dark?"I asked. Something was wrong with her; she needed help or she would kill herself.

"I want to be alone."She said quietly, her body quivering.

"If you do anything dumb, you will regret it," I said and made my way out of the room. I needed to attend a meeting at the palace as soon as possible and if I go with her, all the vampires there will turn her into a meal.

"It is my life, and I have the right to do whatever I like. I do not think it should concern you." She said without changing her sitting position, I was almost sure that if I left her here, she was going to do something stupid.

"Get up, you are coming with me! "I said, I can't leave her here, she will definitely do something for sure.

"I don't want to go anywhere, just leave me alone. "She said. Of course, she was stubborn, and it was difficult to persuade her. Without saying anything, I came to her, crouched to her level, grabbed her hand, and rose from the floor with her.

"Leave my hand, where are you taking me? "Cynthia cried out, and my veins pulsed and began to twitch. I detest it when people attempt to act like victims all the time; I had spared her from destitution, yet she was still moaning like a foolish child.

"Stop it!! Stop crying like your world is coming to an end. "I roared, tightening my grasp on her hand; she stopped screaming, but tears continued to pour from her eyes.

"Get hold of yourself and stop acting like a mad woman! Doing all of this nonsense will neither help you get rid of me nor force me to leave here. Now wipe those tears and smile, we are heading to my family home. "I said. sounded stern or even harsh but that was only what I could think of.

Cynthia swiftly wiped her tears away, and I grabbed her hand and began walking out with her. Reaching outside the guard opened the door and I entered the car and sat In the backseat. Just as I was about to start the car, the door was opened and Nancy entered and sat next to me.

I rolled my eyes; she was acting like a desperate bitch, and I had no time for all the ladies that came after me; I merely fucked them.

"Zander, do you think it is time we admitted our son to school? He is 5 and I think he knows how to hide his identity amongst humans, don't you think? "Nancy asked, I knew she was just trying to show off, stupid woman.

"I will make all the decisions about my son and I think you should stay out of it. "I replied harshly.

"Zander, Liona is the fruit of our love; he is our kid, and I believe it is best if we make all of his decisions jointly as his parents; after all, a child requires both his mother and father to grow up healthily," Nancy murmured, and I peered in the rear seat through the windows; Cynthia was sitting calmly. She was lost in her own world, and I hope she did not want to harm herself.

"Zander, where are you lost in talking to me about something important? "Nancy asked.

"Just be quiet, Nancy; you have been talking nonsense all morning. Can't you just keep your mouth shut for once?" I commented, feeling my body temperature rise with each passing second. Cynthia's silence was bothering me; she usually shouted and yelled, but now she was quiet and lost in her thoughts. I couldn't understand why, but I couldn't seem to read her mind anymore.

"Zander!" Nancy exclaimed, and I turned to glare at her briefly.

"I told you to shut up!" I snapped. Nancy didn't say anything but kept her mouth shut and stared out the window. I glanced at Cynthia through the small mirror in front of me; she sat there quietly, tears streaming down her face.

After a few hours, I arrived at the main mansion. The gate was open, and I drove through, parking the car in front of the grand building. Nancy was the first to step out of the car and walked away without a word.

"You are entering a den of wolves, and if you don't behave, you might end up becoming everyone's prey. Don't blame me for that," I warned.

"I wish you and your whole family could rot in hell and never come back, even in the next six lives you have left," Cynthia said sternly as she stepped out of the car. She wiped her tears away with her hands.

I was grateful she said something, else she would have caused a scene. I stepped out of the car and walked towards her, taking her hand. She quickly tried to pull away, but I held on tightly. Her hand was soft, gentle, and fragile, sending a warmth through my veins.

"Let go of my hand! What do you think you're doing?" Cynthia cringed away from me as if I was something repulsive. I clenched my jaws, unable to understand why I was suddenly so angry.

"Why? Don't I have the right to hold my wife's hand?" I asked, pulling her closer to me.

"Only my future husband has the right to touch me, not a monster like you! You don't have the right to touch me, nor do you deserve it," Cynthia yelled, trying to release her hand from mine, but I didn't let go.

"Do you think I would let anyone else touch you except me? Don't dream about it. I am your husband and I will always be. Only I can touch you. Stop being delusional and accept me as your husband," I said sternly, while Cynthia continued to struggle to break free.

"You can buy everything, but you can't buy love, and you can't force someone to love you! Even if you were the last man on earth, I would never fall in love with you. It will happen over my dead body," Cynthia said coldly. My body flooded with heat, and I couldn't understand why her words affected me so deeply.

"Shut up and come quietly with me!" I commanded sternly, leading her inside as we made our way into the dining room.

All eyes turned to us as we entered the room. Everyone was gathered in the sitting room, including the important council members.

"Long live the king!" everyone exclaimed simultaneously. I walked towards the throne and took my seat, gesturing for Cynthia to stand beside me.

I knew people would say whatever they wanted and taunt me for marrying a human, going against the rule of Carlislean which prohibited marrying outside our kingdom or with humans. Carlislean was a small kingdom with just over a hundred residents, and this rule had been put in place to ensure its growth and prosperity. But I didn't care about the rule. I had defied my grandfather's orders and lived among humans on the North Island, and now I had married a human. I knew no one would approve, but I couldn't bring myself to care.
