Chapter 16 - Day 4

Glenn asked Michael about his wound while he was eating in front of them.

"It's stopped bleeding, but the scar looks deep, so it'll take time to heal," Michael replied, mouth still full of food.

Glenn, Noah, Deiji, Yuki, and Michelle watched him eat. They had just finished their meal and brought food for Michael, who seemed very hungry now.

"Michael, you might choke," Michelle affectionately reminded her twin.

She felt sorry for her sibling as she watched. She thought she shouldn't let him go outside. Michael always protected her, so in the future, she might be selfish to protect him.

Michael just smiled cheerfully at his twin and continued eating.

"Are you going to tie me up after I finish eating?" Michael innocently asked his friends while still eating.

"No. What are you, an animal? Who's the idiot who said to tie you up?" Deiji replied irritably to Michael.

"It was Daisy," Michelle tattled.

Michelle didn't like Daisy. The feeling seemed mutual. Daisy was selfish, but Michelle thought she was kindhearted for letting them stay at her house.

Deiji stayed quiet because she didn't want to say anything bad about Daisy. She wanted to understand that Daisy was just scared and being selfish to protect herself.

After checking on Michael, the friends left. Michael was still in the guest room, but they didn't tie him up, even though Michael insisted. Deiji told him it wasn't necessary and to focus on healing.

"Noah, Glenn, look at this," Christ and Roy appeared, both watching outside.

They invited the others outside to show them the gate, piled high with various heavy objects to block it.

They saw the gate was destroyed, and zombies could get inside within hours.

"Shit! We haven't had a peaceful rest since yesterday. Tonight we have to find another safe place," Noah said dismayed.

They were all tired physically and mentally since returning last night. They took turns keeping watch. It had been quiet from morning till night. Now, the barricade wouldn't last much longer. They had to leave soon.

"Tell everyone to pack up. We're leaving. We have to go," Glenn told Roy and Christ.

"What about our food? We risked our lives to get it. We can't leave it here," Noah asked Glenn frantically.

"Of course, we're not leaving it. Tell the girls not to bring too much. They'll help carry the food. We guys will fight and protect. Get a knife or something," Glenn explained at length, nodding to each teammate to signal they needed to prepare immediately.

"Yuki, I'll carry Zebby's stuff. Just bring a little food. You have Zebby," Deiji suggested, and Yuki nodded in agreement.

She didn't want Yuki to struggle since carrying Zebby wasn't easy. He was big and heavy. Deiji took responsibility for everything about Zebby except lifting him.

When everyone was ready, gathering what they needed, they all met in the living room.

"Where's Daisy?" Noah asked, looking around at everyone.

"Did you tell her, Roy, Christ?" Glenn asked the two he'd sent earlier.

"Yeah. We knocked on her door and called her before coming down. She didn't answer, though," Christ explained at length.

"Maybe she's upset?" Roy teased.

"Maybe she'll stay? She's uncomfortable with Michael, right?" Bianca teased Michael, who sat quietly, not wanting attention.

Michael had a bag filled with food. He insisted on helping carry it since he knew he couldn't fight zombies; he was weaker than the guys.

Everyone was amused watching Bianca and Deiji fight. They could see it was just their way of talking to each other.

"Daisy, open the door," Noah pleaded from outside her room.

"Just leave me alone! I don't want to team up with all of you!" Daisy shouted from inside.

"Daisy, stop this act. It's not the time," Noah said.

"Any minute now, zombies will be in your house. We have to move," Glenn said.

There was no response from Daisy. Noah didn't want to leave her; she was too timid, and he didn't know how to protect herself.

He had known Daisy for a couple of months. It was only online, but they shared deep stories and secrets. It was how they bonded and built their relationship.

"Daisy, please. Can we talk?" Noah begged.

"No! You're just conspiring against me!" Daisy insisted.

"Daisy, you know I'm always on your side. Didn't I promise you?" Noah asked, not knowing where to give up.

The door suddenly opened, and Daisy cried. Her expression calmed, but her forehead was still wrinkled.

"Really?" Daisy asked, like a child seeking assurance.

"Yeah! Promise!" Noah smiled broadly, and he raised his right hand, as if taking an oath.

Daisy was so excited she hugged him. Noah hugged her back. He was happy she had opened the door and trusted him.

Meanwhile, a girl watched what was happening to Noah and Daisy.
