Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : Crime

In a universe renowned for its mages and the supernatural, the landscape seemed to have been completely redefined by a devastating war that had caused the loss of the majority of the world's population.

However, despite this destruction, a colossal tower stood untouched, without the slightest damage.

This structure, usually invisible to the common mortals, answered to the name of the Tower of Mages. It was a perfect replica of the Tower of Babel, destroyed in ancient times. This new tower served as the cradle of all mages, erected by man for the purpose of studying and developing magic.

In the depths of a dark cell, the silhouette of a man is found at the very bottom of these dungeons, giving the impression of being in his twenties, yet his physical appearance bore no resemblance to his actual age.

He had been imprisoned in the deepest part of the dungeons awaiting his judgment.

As the guards entered the cell to take the prisoner away, an imposing man clad in a long black cloak appeared. His face was stern, and his eyes sparkled with a cold gleam as he observed the prisoner with evident disdain.

"Julius Eltram Faust," he spat with palpable disdain, pronouncing each syllable as if it were a spit. "It's been a long time."

This individual, named Ubel, was famous for his infinite cruelty and arrogance within the mage circles. His mere presence sent shivers down the spine of those who dared defy him.

Julius glanced up at Ubel, a glint of defiance mixed with a hint of amusement in his weary gaze. He wasn't impressed by the haughty demeanor of this pretentious individual.

"Ah, Ubel Eizenberg. Still as poorly preserved by time, I hope you brought Julia. The last time we met, she wouldn't let go of me after I took her to the seventh heaven with the steamy night we spent together."

Ubel glared at Julius, his jaw clenched in anger at the contempt displayed by the latter. "You dare mock me, Julius Eltram Faust? You have no idea what awaits you. Your arrogance will lead you to your downfall, and you will bitterly regret it."

The revelation that his daughter had slept with someone other than her fiancé had been a great shame for his family, and the engagement had to be broken off because of his fault. Julius retorted with a scornful laugh. "Oh, Ubel, always so predictable in your anger." As he followed the guard, Julius couldn't help but add one last remark: "Don't forget to give my regards to Julia. I hope she's taking good care of the little one I left her."

The guards exchanged nervous glances, aware of the explosive potential of the situation. They knew that the confrontation between these two men could have devastating consequences for everyone nearby.

However, Ubel held back, even though he wouldn't be able to participate in the trial. All the jurors, the judge, and even the court seemed to be against Julius. As he watched Julius' silhouette fade away, Ubel couldn't help but think of his incredible talent. Despite his deep resentment towards him, he had to admit that he was probably one, if not the greatest genius that the Tower of Mages had known in its millennia of existence.

As he entered the courtroom, tension hung palpably in the air as Julius Eltram Faust was led before the judge and jurors. His unwavering gaze contrasted with the anxiety spreading among the spectators.

The judge, an elderly man dressed in a white robe, observed Julius with a certain disdain. "Julius Eltram Faust, you stand accused of several serious crimes against the mage society and humanity. You are charged with forbidden practices, genocide, and conspiracy against the Council of Mages. How do you plead?"

Julius burst into laughter, a sound that echoed throughout the courtroom, filling the atmosphere with his defiant arrogance.

The judge frowned, his patience clearly tested by this insolent behavior. "You seem to be taking this situation lightly, Sir. Faust. This is a serious matter, and your actions have had devastating consequences."

Julius attempted to regain his composure, but a smirk persisted on his lips. "Oh, but Your Honor, everyone here knows that the Tower of Mages couldn't care less about what might happen to these pitiful mere humans.

Initiating a purge aimed at exterminating 90% of the human population might be considered an extreme act, but in this context, it was a necessary measure.

The major degradation in the quality and quantity of magic, caused by human scientific research, is considered a serious crime in the eyes of every mage. Magic is at the core of all magic, and its gradual disappearance threatens the very balance of the occult world, supernatural species, nature spirits, the power of magic, all of which would eventually disappear because of the foolishness of these inferior beings.

Thus, the extermination of those who contribute to this degradation can only be perceived as a justifiable and even necessary action to preserve the integrity of magic and mystery. According to the laws and traditions of the mages, those involved in such experiments can be immediately put to death without prior trial, to protect the very essence of magic because the sole purpose of a mage is to advance magic; anyone who seeks to go against it deserves sudden death.

"For the second crime, I have never violated the rules of magical research. I have never breached the three taboos of mages: I have not revealed the mystery, I have not harmed nature spirits, and I have not made pacts with beings outside the world.

And finally, for the third, as a member of the Grand Council of Magic, I have never done anything that could have been harmful to the Tower of Mages.

However, despite this, the judge seemed not to care about a single word Julius had uttered. "Julius Eltram Faust, you are accused of serious crimes against the mage society and humanity," begins the judge in a monotone voice, knowing exactly how he intended to conclude this matter.

Julius observes the judge, knowing he was facing a corrupt system. He knows that no matter what he says, the final decision has been made long before the trial begins. They don't care about what he has to say; all they want is to condemn him to death so they can dispose of his body to access the Almighty Key he obtained.

The judge continues his speech, citing the accusations against Julius, but his words fall hollow on the latter's ears. He knows this courtroom is but a theater of the absurd, where justice is biased in favor of other nobles who had allied against him.

When it comes time to plead, Julius decides to play along, knowing his words will not change the outcome of the trial. He calmly answers the judge's questions, all the while keeping an eye on the true manipulators of this judicial farce.

Despite the defense's presentation of evidence and Julius's efforts to defend himself, the verdict is unsurprising. "I declare you guilty on all counts."

As the guards were about to approach Julius to take him away, he did something that instantly froze the entire court. The two guards who were about to approach him were decapitated without anyone having time to react.

"As you have no intention of letting me go, I have no reason to hold back any longer. If you had simply asked me for the key and let me conduct my research in peace, this situation could have been avoided. However, you were too greedy."

The horrified and shocked gazes of the spectators fell upon Julius as he stood there, unperturbed despite the act of violence he had just committed. The courtroom was plunged into chaos, with cries of panic and guards rushing to contain the situation.

The judge, though shocked, quickly regained his composure and ordered the remaining guards to apprehend Julius. But before they could act, Julius began to speak in a calm but determined voice.

However, as they approached, Julius simply made a hand gesture and everyone was stopped without being able to do anything; the atmosphere of the room was frozen, or to be more precise, time itself was frozen.

With barely concealed disdain, Julius looked at everyone present in the courtroom. "You fools. They seem to have forgotten who restored the delimited fields surrounding the tower. At the same time, I can't blame them. How could they have imagined that I had subtly modified them to control the density of time within the tower?"

Looking at the result, Julius was proud of his work. "I am not disappointed with the amount of mana fueling these delimited fields; time is so slowed down that it is as if it is frozen."

However, this would not be enough. Even if he managed to escape the tower, between the executioners and the Holy Church waiting for him outside for the massacre he had committed, he had almost no chance of survival. However, during his time in prison, he had had time to think. Julius took a moment and then sent several large, dense, concentrated wind blades that easily severed the heads of everyone present in the courtroom.

Once he was finished, he focused on the spell he had been working on during his month of captivity. Cutting his hand, he let his blood flow onto the ground while uttering an aria, "Rearrangement, grand design, topography, ritual."

At that moment, the room was covered in a large magic circle. Normally, this spell required a lot of preparation; any mage could gather enough magical energy from a ley line to even try to activate it. However, he was precisely on the Mage Tower, the place from which all ley lines in the world originated. It was where the density of mana was the greatest and most concentrated.

He positioned himself at the center of the magic circle and began reciting his aria.

"Earth Sky World God Element "

"You who rule the earth, You who govern the skies"

"You embody time, space, and the entire universe"

"Let the currents of the world gather and condense within me."

"the incarnation of the planet"

"the element that shapes the world."

"You are the gateway holding the truth."

"You possess the form of the stars"

"the beginning of the soul and its end"

"An insane god"

"You have given form to every being"

"You alter the movement of celestial bodies."

"You are the great celestial crown"

"Become the key that unlocks the truth."

An immense magic circle appeared in the sky, concentrating all magical energy. In the room where the ritual took place, a gigantic eye appeared at the center of the circle, above Julius. He immediately recognized the Eye of Truth and continued the ritual.

"You are the truth"

"You are God,"

"You are us" "

You are me,"

"You who hold absolute knowledge",

"You who are claimed by no one",

"Manifest in me"

"Open wide, Gate of Destiny and reincarnation."

As these final words were uttered, the body of Julius Eltram Faust completely vanished from existence, leaving not a single trace in this world except for the mark he had left and the legacy of the Faust family's research.

As time resumed, every person present at the trial was killed, leaving not a single survivor.
