Alyssane's pulse thundered in her ears, a relentless drum beat that matched the surge of panic clawing at her chest. The world seemed to slow down as the massive wolf lunged towards them.
It would be too late, too futile, to attempt running now.
'But how is a wolf here? This is far from their territory!'
Alyssane curled her cold sweaty fingers, and then, her gaze fell onto the bloodied bag clutched in the maid's trembling hands.
It had the rabbit carcass inside. Her heart raced, and then, without a second thought, Alyssane snatched the bag and hurled it in the opposite direction.
The beast's head snapped towards the bloodied bundle.
Alyssane released a breath she was holding.
The wolven snarl echoed and pierced through the forest as it lunged, claws outstretched. The bag landed perilously close to Serena―her skin becoming ghostly white.
She hastily attempted to run away.
