Alyssane's vision blurred, the walls of the hall seeming to ripple and distort around her, but it only lasted a moment.
'I need to leave. Now.'
She hurried past the spectators, ignoring their shocked silence, praying that no one would stop her or ask questions. No one did.
The cold night air hit her as Alyssane stumbled outside the tavern, finding herself in a dark, empty alley. She leaned heavily against a wall, her breaths coming in ragged gasps.
The abnormal heat coursing through her veins lingered, but now, it was slowly ebbing away.
The chilling air soothed her feverish skin, and as her mind began to clear, her thoughts returned to the hooded stranger. 'The first time I met him… something like this happened then, too…'
'But it makes no sense. I don't have that kind of strength, nor should I know how to fight like that.'
