She heard the frantic beating of another heart.
But soon all sounds, the world, everything faded to black. Alyssane once again stood alone in the endless darkness.
The oblivion felt somehow even vast this time, more haunting.
Underneath her feet, there was a sheen layer of water that rippled from her. The void had always been empty, the suffocating nothingness was all she knew but now her reflection stared back from the rippling water.
Fear rushed through her heart.
Silver eyes.
Alyssane reluctantly reached down, and a tremor ran through her hand the moment they touched the water. The reflection followed her movements, and she could not look away from those eyes, unaware of when the icy fingers stretched out through the water and closed around her hand.
The touch sent a jolt of unnatural cold through her.
Everything vanished with the touch.
