The Duchess whispered, again, and again, as if reminding herself of something she was forgetting. Marleen had never been more scared.
What was going on with Serena? She had always been a little strange and sought so many kinds of troubles, but for the first time in her life, Marleen felt like she was losing the Duchess.
She no longer seemed herself.
And the following morning, she truly did not seem like herself.
Marleen was petrified in her place, her eyes unable to move from the Duchess as she wore her gloves, all ten fingers of her perfectly enact―and then, Marleen wondered, 'What if I am losing my mind?'
She should have simply asked the Duchess, but for some reason, Marleen could not bring herself to speak. She continued as if everything was alright, and the Duchess behaved the same way.
