He had come to report what the assassin said to him to his superior. However, when he remembered the words of the assassin, it infuriated him greatly. He had the urge to torture him to death.
When he was interrogating the assassin, the assassin made it known that he would only speak when a certain someone was around.
Though he wasn't clear who that person was, putting pieces together he had someone in mind. But how could a criminal make such a demand before him?
"Calm down. We can't do anything too extreme to him. The envoy from the headquarters would be arriving any moment from now." Sergeant Quaye said calmly.
"Besides, he says he would speak if only that person is around right?" He continued.
"Yes!, Sergeant it can't be...." Lance Corporal Barrack said frowning.
"It's alright. I've called for that person. So just see to his demands."
"But Sergeant!" LC Barrack said in hopes of persuading his superior. However, his words got cut short by the sergeant.
"No buts! Just do as I say. It's an order! Now you may leave!" Sergeant Quaye commanded. He knew how stubborn of a character his subordinate was.
Hence, he could only use his authority to make him succumb to what he wanted him to do.
The fact that he was willing to meet the demand of the assassin was not a result of him fearing the assassin or the power behind him but because headquarters had gotten involved in the case.
They had made it clear that they would personally take care of the situation. Therefore, he doesn't want to do something that may leave the impression that he is against the headquarters.
"Yes sir!" LC Barrack saluted as he made his way out of the room. Though he wasn't satisfied with the behavior of his superior, there was nothing he could do either as that was the rule between a superior and a subordinate in the police force.
A subordinate dare not refuse the order of his superior. It was a code of conduct!
A few minutes later, "Sir, He's waiting for you inside this room." The policeman escorting Yebou said when they arrived before a particular door after making their way into the police station.
"Thank you!" Yebou replied.
"Ha! I was only doing my duty." The policeman replied humbly. He was starting to like the kid the more they conversed.
On their way, they talked about a lot of things, including the various ranks in the police, the latest breaking news from the cities as well as the recent incidents which occurred in the village, and many more.
Listening to the opinion and words of the kid, it seemed like he was listening to a veteran in the police force. The wisdom and calmness displayed by the kid shocked him greatly.
He finally realized the reason the sergeant would put heavy emphasis on him.
"Sir, I would like to visit you sometime when I get the chance. I must confess, that you are knowledgeable about the police force. I would like to listen to your opinions on other issues.
"Sure!" Yebou replied. He wasn't surprised the policeman would get captivated by his words and opinions.
With his many years of working in the police force, the knowledge in his arsenal was way above that of anyone within this village, perhaps even the whole region.
Subsequently, they bid each other farewell as they focused on their tasks and plans.
