Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 We Ended Four Years Ago

Lena finally calmed down, displaying maturity and composure unaffected by emotions. "Don't worry, I won't have any unrealistic expectations. I understood my place four years ago." Her voice remained steady, as if she hadn't just been crying.

"Well, that's good to know. Since you're so self-aware, go ahead and take this medicine to save yourself trouble in the future!" Lena looked at the half-filled glass of water and a white pill quietly placed on the bedside table. Even a fool could guess what medicine it was.

Without hesitation, Lorraine picked up the pill and swallowed it.

A raging fire of unrelenting anger ignited within Grayson. He grabbed a glass and forcefully threw it towards the door, shattering it into pieces. "Rest assured, I have absolutely no inappropriate thoughts, especially towards you, the high and mighty CEO. You are an untouchable existence for me."

Who would be interested in a man who once hurt them so deeply?

This was exactly the response Grayson wanted to hear. Every time he thought about her leaving in someone else's car, it pained him. But hearing her once again express no feelings towards him only made him feel more suffocated.

Thinking about other women's obsession with him, always wanting to be close, desperate for his attention, made him feel powerful. Just a gesture from him, and countless women would warm his bed. Yet the woman before him showed no interest in him. It was because of this stubborn woman that his group of friends mocked him, questioning if he was inadequate in that aspect.

"It's better this way," Grayson sneered.

Lena faced it all fearlessly, taking the pill from the bedside table without hesitation and swallowing it. Her attitude towards Grayson was resolute and indifferent, as if the emotions from four years ago had become a distant memory.

Grayson looked at Lena, his heart filled with complex emotions. Her attitude caused him pain and frustration, fueling his anger towards his own incompetence. He once wanted to possess her, but now he could only watch her leave helplessly, feeling powerless.

"We have been strangers since four years ago," Lena said softly, then decisively pushed open the door and walked out.

Grayson watched her silhouette disappear outside the door, filled with helplessness and pain. He knew he could never retrieve what was lost; the past between them had become an insurmountable gap.

Though it was already May, the morning air was still chilly. Lena stood on the street wearing only a men's shirt, her body trembling slightly. She felt like this was the most embarrassing day of her four years.

Grayson started the car, ready to leave. However, he suddenly stopped, looking at Lena's figure through the rearview mirror, feeling a surge of compassion.

He instinctively slammed the steering wheel, cursing his own weakness. Four years had passed, yet Lena could still easily affect his emotions, making him feel inadequate.

Lena kept waving for a taxi, but none stopped. She felt the curious and judgmental gazes of passersby, filled with helplessness and anger.

After a few seconds of silence, Grayson reversed the car in a perfect arc and stopped next to Lena. "Get in!"

"No need!" Lena's stubbornness surfaced, refusing to show weakness.

Lena turned her head, looking around the street blankly, praying for a taxi to arrive soon. No matter how much she hoped, no car stopped by her side.

Grayson glared at her coldly. "Standing here like this, are you looking for a new client like a streetwalker?"

"Do you have to meddle?" Lena replied angrily.

"Get in the car quickly. You can't park here; do you want the police to tow your car?" Grayson's tone carried helplessness and irritation. "Even the esteemed CEO of Cybernet Group is afraid of the police towing his car? I'm afraid the police would go out of their way to avoid you!"

"After four years, you still have this temper. Do you want everyone to see your lace underwear?"

Lena instinctively pulled down her shirt, feeling ashamed and wronged.
