Chapter 11 - Cursed by Fate

"It's time to go to bed, Kaminari," his dad said, placing his hand on his son's shoulder.

Kaminari replied while being half awake, "One more episode, please..."

"I can see you're already tired. You can continue it tomorrow." His dad said with a smile on his face.

"Listen to your dad, sweetie." His mom also added.

Kaminari got up from the couch, "Fine."

"I'll come up to your room to tuck you in and give you a good night kiss in a bit." His mom said.

Kaminari trudged up the stairs, dragging his feet in that way kids do when they don't want to do something but know they have to go along with it.

Kaminari got on the bed and pulled the covers up to his chin, waiting for his mom to come to the room.

But suddenly, a scream echoed through the entire house. It sounded like his mom.

Kaminari was too scared to go out of his room to check what that was and he tried to hide himself under the covers and pretended not to hear it.

Eventually he let curiosity take the best of him. He slowly opened his bedroom door, the corridor seemed to stretch in front of him and Kaminari had second thoughts on it.

He let out a deep breath and quietly made his way through the corridor to the stairs.

As he was peeking over the stairs, he saw a man that was shining golden and had a eerie mask on walking towards the living room from the kitchen.

Kaminari held his breath hoping that the man wouldn't notice him and the mysterious person didn't.

As the man started entering the living room, Kaminari decided to go down the stairs and this time peeked over the living room wall.

His dad, known for being a powerful electricity user, was completely powerless against this mysterious person, who didn't seem like human.

Kaminari's dad kept using his electric powers to try and take that man down. They were cornered against the wall when suddenly Kaminari's mom noticed him standing in the corridor with a scared face.

"Kaminari, get out of here! Run!" His mom yelled with tears flowing down her face.

Kaminari was about to run but he suddenly felt like he was frozen in that spot. All he could do was just watch.

The golden colored person turned around, "How unfortunate of this kid... Seeing his parents die on a beautiful night like this must be painful. However, this must be done otherwise peace for humankind will not be achieved."

While he was saying that, Kaminari's dad tried to attack the person and he managed to hurt him while he wasn't paying attention.

"Impossible. You shouldn't be able to hurt me with such weak powers." He said while his body grew brighter.

"You must die right here." The person said pulling Kaminari's dad towards him.

Kaminari's dad said while being held by his throat, "Who are you?! And why do we have to die for the sake of peace... Are you with the government?!"

The person laughed, "I'm The Watcher. Yours and other peoples' deaths whom I've yet killed will be what will lead us to peace. The details don't matter."

The Watcher used his other hand and put it against the father's body and said: "Every move you've used on me has been absorbed and now I'll gladly kill you with them."

Suddenly Kaminari saw his dad be electrocuted and be thrown to the ground.

The Watcher had electricity still surrounding his hand and he directed the electricity to Kaminari's mom.

On that day, Kaminari lost both of his parents to this person who claimed to be The Watcher.

The Watcher walked back towards Kaminari and didn't say anything to him, instead he walked towards the kitchen. Kaminari tried to look what he was doing there but The Watcher was nowhere to be found.

Kaminari broke down and couldn't look at his parents. He was crying in agony until he heard the police sirens outside. His dad has always told him that the police or anyone like that shouldn't find out about the fact that they all have powers.

Kaminari decided to run away from home through the back door.

He was outside the whole night trying to hide from others. In the morning he ran into a man who noticed Kaminari's condition, his face seemed off from the crying and lack of sleep.

"Are you alright, kid?" The man asked worryingly.

Kaminari was almost going to pass out when he asked, "Can you help me, my parents..."

He didn't get to finish his sentence when his eyes closed and he appeared to fall on the ground.

A few days had passed since then and Kaminari was in a hospital.

"Hey, I've come to visit you. How are you doing?" The person asked with a smile on his face.

Kaminari looked at him and said in a quiet voice: "I'm fine."

The man felt sorry for him and decided to keep the conversation going, "That's good to hear. By the way, I've been curious on what your name is."

"It's Kaminari." He replied in a sad tone, not seeming to really care.

"Well, Kaminari. I'm not sure if you're interested in knowing mine but my name is Kazuhiko." He said while smiling.

"Kazuhiko... Where are we?" Kaminari asked while looking out the window where he could see some towns in the distance and a medieval looking buildings around the hospital building.

Kazuhiko also looked out the window, "We're in the hideout. A place where people with powers have hidden away from the government."

After a few years Kaminari started to get used to the life the hideout.

He turned 13 and was now ready to start learning more about his powers.

"As you've seen already, kids in here are grouped together in teams of five. And I think you're ready to see your teammate." Kazuhiko said outside of the school building.

"Just one teammate?" Kaminari asked confused on whether he heard it correctly or not.

"Uh... Yes, we don't really have any more members for this team but we'll surely find some." Kazuhiko replied scratching the back of his head and smiling.

They walked up the stairs to the head of the hideout's room and went in.

"Deia, this will be the second person on your team." Kendra said.

Deia seemed anxious so Kaminari decided to start a conversation: "My name's Kaminari. Nice to meet you!"

"My name's Deia. It's nice to meet you as well." She said while looking at the ground.

Kazuhiko felt the awkardness between them so he decided to ask: "Are you guys hungry by any chance?"

When Deia didn't give an answer, Kaminari decided to it instead, "Sure but are you bringing us to that location again?"

Kazuhiko started laughing, "I bring you there often, huh. Well you're right, I was thinking of that place."

They left the room and made their way to the dining place.

Mai noticed them, smiled and waved at them, "So... Kazuhiko, you now have a team."

"There's only three of us right now but one day we'll be a full-fledged team taking on missions." Kazuhiko said in an exciting tone.

"Can't wait! Anway, since I know all of you, I assume it's going to be the usual." Mai then said.

After Deia and Kaminari nodded, she went to the kitchen and brought them their food. They ate it and went on with their day.

After a few weeks, a new child was saved and brought to the hideout.

"You think she'll end up on our team?" Kaminari asked from Kazuhiko who told them those news.

"Most likely. I want you guys to be nice to her, as usual, she didn't have a nice time recently." Kazuhiko replied.

They went to the Kendra's office, just like the time when Kaminari met Deia, and they saw the new member.

"I'm Kaminari. What's your name?" He tried to start a conversation.

"I'm called Isabella." She said while trying to smile.

"My name is Deia." She said after gathering up her courage.

"That's a beautiful name." Isabella replied.

After they were done introducing themselves, Kendra said: "Just two more members and you'll have a full team to go on missions."

They then left the room and Kaminari felt happy that the new girl was a nice person.
