Chapter 5 - Different Identities, Equal Fates

Locked of his own volition in his personal room inside a huge mansion, a little boy was standing in front of an object twice his size.

''Hmm...''

Lughys studied himself with extreme precision in the mirror of his chambers.

It was the thousandth time the boy had done that same thing, but the young boy still felt awkward, although he was calmer than before.

''It's hard to believe…''

It made sense that he would be uncomfortable, though — after all, he was clearly no longer himself. In fact, more accurately, it could be said that the boy was no longer the "he" of Earth.

The lad had now become a new person.

A new "he", in the literal sense of the word.

''.....!''

Touching the cheeks gently with his soft little fingers, he watched the short, navy-eyed little boy, reflected in the mirror, perfectly repeat the same actions he did.

His old dark brown hair looked truly similar to his new childlike body, though now there were several differences.

From its new acquired massive size to its unusually bright red streaks.

''Let me see...''

His jewel-blue eyes gleamed as he fixed his gaze on the expensive-looking aristocratic clothes.

He could feel his body weaker than it had ever been in his entire journey on Earth.

Beneath his clothes elegantly placed over his tiny body, Lughys understood how poorly built his muscles were.

His pale Caucasian skin, marred by a few thin scars barely noticeable to naked human eyes, gave an air that the lad was even more fragile than he really was.

So, given so many factors, he imagined that he must have been through hell in those last few years, up until that point.

Years he could vaguely remember about.

"What the hell did this planet do to my other self while I was away?" The boy asked, sitting on the soft bed in the corner of the vast room.

Lughys shook his head, lost in thought, feeling the weight of countless inner worries settle on his tiny shoulders, violently.

Things didn't seem to have gone well for him over the years in that new magical world.

He sympathized with his version of Keishin's world firmly, given the things the poor thing had been through at a young age.

''If everything went as the original script of [WOF] dictated, then the me here must have gone through hell on the surface.''

He stated, remembering the information about Lughys, available in the game.

The little boy closed his eyes tightly as he tried to recall any important or interesting facts about the character he had taken on.

He forced himself to remember, even though he knew it might hurt him.

"So, let me see…" Said Lughys, a stoic expression plastered on his face. ''Lughys Fou Barastrosa, of the renowned Barastrosa family — and a formerb low nobleman, member of the Verlane family clan...''

Lughys Fou Barastroth, whom was also known by the name Lughys Fou Baskatroth — depending on the variation of the language one was speaking at the time he introduced himself — was the holder of the title of 'Knight' from an ancient prophecy, described during the game's plot.

Nonetheless, he was a complete piece of shit, but he had his own reasons for turning into a utter jerk like that.

First things first, when he turned 5, his entire family was brutally murdered by a mysterious entity, which for some reason the game never lent itself to the point of solving the mystery behind the creature's identity.

But it made sense that the author and developers wouldn't have bothered, as Lughys was nothing more than a throwaway supporting character.

The few detailed descriptions and quotes about the swordsman guy's history were rare, and took place during boring dialogue that Harlan had largely omitted.

Although considered a swordsmanship genius, the truth that everyone didn't know, including poor Lughys himself, was that he was nothing more than a mere extra character in a horrible game.

The boy was soon adopted by his father's close and loyal friend, Duke Julius Barastrosa, and soon joined the powerful Barastrosa family as their newest son.

From what Harlan could remember from Diana's words, and from some of the things he'd researched online, in all eight of the endings Lughys was either cruelly murdered by his sister, by the heroes, or left behind in a dungeon.

''In an absolutely fucked up plot, there was no way out for the kiddo.''

In short: no matter what he did, there was only one destination evident in his path.

At least, those had been the things Harlan's mind had been able to piece together in such a short time, compelling into a bizarre sort of mental file so he wouldn't forget.

''A character who is doomed, no matter what he tries...'' Commented the little boy, depressed.

Harlan was now trapped in Lughys' body. No, to be more blunt, he had been reincarnated in Lughys' body in some way he didn't know exactly how.

The body of the villain's brother, destined for death...

''Still, that's not the only problem here...'' He sighed, puzzled.

But what worried him most, at that point, were his memories divided into confused fragments of what they once had been.

Maybe even the information regarding [The Wheel of Fortune] was terribly wrong, to begin with.

Lughys couldn't help but wonder for a moment how much he had forgotten and if he would even be able to recover all of his memories in time for the inevitable ending that awaited him.

Lost in thought, his small mind began to gradually slip away against his will.

Apparently, his body couldn't keep up with the speed of his reasoning.

The little boy's eyelids began to close and open repeatedly as his lips smacked against each other.

In parallel, a bizarre mix of darkness and fatigue began to swallow the remnants of his rationality, making him sleepy.

''S-shit...''

Cursing, Lughys felt his body plummet completely onto the soft bed, uncontrollably.

In that way, he fell into a deep sleep quickly.

It had been a long day for him, it made sense that he was exhausted.

The problem was, this wasn't even the beginning of the main plot and things were still apparently under control.

And soon, he would discover that not everything about Keishin was exactly what it seemed to be at all.
