After more than a dozen waves of the horde, the trainees managed to eradicate two-thirds of their enemies. But Ken was also close to running out of failures to accommodate his spellcasting. His burnout counter was on its last leg.
Runic magic wasn't easy to conjure in such chaotic circumstances, and the few 'Switch' runes he had created to keep the gap in the gateway open were going out of service one by one.
Just before the last one went out, Ken sent down an order through Merik to everyone outside the gateway to return quickly. The returnees all wore disappointed looks as they ran back inside. It was evident that they had been enjoying themselves out there.
"Hey, I have a racial talent for shamanic magic," one of the goblins shouted excitedly as he approached Ken. "Since you can't create new ones, how about you teach me how to draw these runes? Maybe we'll be able to open up the gap again!"
