Chereads / Ice Age Apocalypse, I have stockpiled billions of supplies / Chapter 15 - Chapter 13: The Arrival of the Ice Age

Chapter 15 - Chapter 13: The Arrival of the Ice Age

Zhang Yi emptied the entire Walmart South China warehouse!

The goods worth tens of billions were all moved into his alternate space.

Yet he pretended to know nothing and immediately reported the incident to the Walmart upper management.

Before long, the news had spread throughout the entire Walmart South China district management.

Leaders arrived at the scene in shock and reported the matter to the police.

Zhang Yi was not at all worried about being exposed.

After all, the disappearance of tens of billions worth of goods from a warehouse within merely two hours was too bizarre to comprehend.

Even with the police conducting a thorough investigation, they would not be able to figure it out anytime soon.

Still, he acted nervous and scared, cooperating with the police investigation.

After an overnight interrogation, Zhang Yi was released.

The police were also very doubtful about the incident.

They had checked the surveillance inside and outside the warehouse.

Though the internal cameras had been turned off, it was impossible to steal millions of cubic meters of goods without leaving any trace.

However, checking the surveillance around the warehouse, there were no traces of any vehicles passing by.

In other words, the tens of billions worth of goods either disappeared into thin air or... it was an inside job by Walmart itself.

Logically, the latter seemed more plausible.

Unless a supernatural event occurred, there was simply no explaining how millions of cubic meters of goods could vanish without a trace in just two hours.

As for ordinary employees like Zhang Yi, they did garner some suspicion.

But since it didn't make sense how the goods could just disappear, even if there was an issue with the staff, that wasn't the main conflict.

Zhang Yi was ordered not to leave Tianhai City for the time being and to cooperate with the ongoing investigation by the police and Walmart.

He was very cooperative and was then let go.

Once home, Zhang Yi looked outside through the blinds of his floor-to-ceiling window.

Today was December 8th, with only four days left before the Ice Age.

For the upcoming days, he only needed to stay at home, not going anywhere, and he would comfortably win at life.

Thinking about the goods worth tens of billions in the alternate space that included almost everything he needed for life, Zhang Yi felt very at ease.

He lay down in his bedroom, feeling tired after a night of frantic activity and interrogation.

...

Zhang Yi slept until the evening when he turned on the TV to see the news broadcasting the theft at the Walmart South China warehouse.

Due to the vast amount of lost goods and the bizarre nature of the theft, major news channels were in a race to report it.

"That huge warehouse, emptied in just a few hours, definitely an inside job!"

"Must be the work of someone inside, very likely Walmart's own executives, to claim insurance."

"Millions of cubic meters of goods, even with large trucks, it would be impossible to move everything in one night."

Zhang Yi smirked slightly; nobody would know the answer to this until the apocalypse.

For the next few days, Zhang Yi stayed in his home, going nowhere.

He knew the world didn't have much time left.

For safety, he would not leave his room on his own.

Meanwhile, the police and Walmart headquarters investigators called him in for questioning again.

They were suspicious that Zhang Yi had acted oddly that night.

But with limited time for the investigation and no solid evidence, they could suspect him, but they couldn't just arrest him.

Throughout this time, some acquaintances messaged him, trying to get the inside scoop, but Zhang Yi brushed them off.

Finally, December 12th arrived.

The passage of gamma rays over the Blue Planet occurred at two o'clock in the morning, lasting only a moment, but the effects on the planet were cataclysmic.

Hours before, Zhang Yi had sealed his room completely and started a fire in the fireplace.

Before long, as the energy supplies were exhausted, things like air conditioning and heating would fail entirely.

From then on, warming oneself would be possible only by the most primitive means.

At two o'clock, he sat on the sofa in front of the massive floor-to-ceiling window, holding a bottle of beer, staring intently outside.

Suddenly, a trace of white light appeared at the edge of the sky. It was the middle of the night, yet the ground became as bright as dusk.

But this light lasted only for a brief two seconds and then subsided.

Most people were asleep by this time and thus did not notice this fleeting change.

Yet Zhang Yi, who knew what this meant, felt a chill down his spine.

He gulped down the beer, its refreshing taste giving him a moment of calm.

Zhang Yi thought and added a few more logs to the fireplace.

He turned on the television, watching the programs while waiting for the world to change.

Just a few minutes later, dense snowflakes began to fall from the sky outside.

At first, the snowflakes were the size of fingernails, but in less than two minutes, they turned into heavy snowflakes the size of goose feathers!

The wind outside the window began to howl, and the snow outside seemed to become terrifying in an instant!

Above the entire city, a sudden snowstorm appeared!

Such is the power of nature; when it changes, it does not give notice.

Zhang Yi started to feel anxious inside.

Although the safe house he had built was perfect, having experienced an ice age apocalypse before, he couldn't help but worry.

He wondered whether this safety house, which cost up to 8 million, could withstand the upcoming severe temperature drop.

However, as the flames roared within the fireplace, the temperature indoors became incredibly warm.

It was even a bit hot.

Zhang Yi glanced at the indoor temperature, which had reached 32.6 degrees Celsius.

Looking outside again, the snow blanketing the entire city had submerged it.

Zhang Yi felt a lot more at ease.

But he was in no hurry to sleep; he wanted to continue observing the subsequent changes.

As for resting, there would be plenty of time later.

In less than half an hour, the snow on the outdoor balcony had piled up into a thick layer.

Zhang Yi checked the news on his phone and discovered that the news about the sudden drop in temperature had spread across the entire network.

The internet was full of complaints; people were bemoaning that winter had come too early and they were not prepared with winter clothing.

"This damned weather, it's already minus ten degrees!"

"Probably the roads will be frozen tomorrow, how will we go to work?"

Some people expressed their joy.

"With such heavy snow, we probably won't have to go to work tomorrow, haha!"

In particular, friends from the south were excited and posted pictures of themselves with the heavy snow.

They said they had never seen such heavy snow in the south.

Zhang Yi shook his head; this was just the beginning.

The heavy snow would continue for three months, and the temperature would drop even further.

By then, they wouldn't be so cheerful about enjoying the snow.
