"Kuroba Kaneko?! Hmm, what a weird name that is." Akatsuki said.
"Dummy, that's Kuroba. Of course, his name would sound lame." I said, lying on the bed.
"You don't look too surprised."
"Nah, I'm kinda surprised, but I had a feeling that he had something to do with it."
"Well, I'll be travelling today to go ask my team for updates." He said.
"Thanks, uncle, for the help." I said, smiling weakly.
"It's okay, son."
"Yeah." I said before closing my eyes into a deep slumber.
"Atsushi, wake up, wake up!" Akatsuki asked as I rubbed my eyes.
"Look, the police." He said as I looked down the window.
The police were down there, Uncle Kisho handcuffed and looking up at us.
"Uncle... Akatsuki." I called, looking at Akatsuki immediately.
"Atsu... there's nothing we can do anymore. We can't help Akane."
"You kids are going with us." One of the police men said, already inside the house.
*Hmm? How'd he get in?*
He took us down to meet the other policemen.
"How'd this happen?"
"The high ranked police I went to meet turned out to be a lackey too."
"Well, we're going to the wedding now, aren't we?" He asked as the other policeman nodded.
"Of course, Mr. Kaneki said he'd want them to take the front row."
*Wedding? Mr Kaneki?!*
I found myself at the front row of the wedding of Akane and Kuroba as my eyes widened. Kuroba looked at me continuously while keeping a smug smile.
"Atsushi?" Akatsu called as I sat up immediately.
"I-it was a dream."
"Dream?"
"Ha... thank God it was just a dream." I said, lying back on the bed.
"Wanna eat something?"
"Yeah, wait, you prepared something?!" I asked, horror written on my face.
"Yeah, why'd your face look so funny?"
"Ah-Haha, I'm not really hungry now, you see. I'll just go back to sleep."
GRUMBLE.
"Heh...? That grumble sounded a bit too loud. Are you sure you're not hungry?"
"I'm not!!" I shouted.
"Oh...? Suit yourself then." He said.
*Ha... dodged a bullet there.* I thought, remembering the horror from the past.
Three days later, Uncle Kisho got back from wherever he went.
"You see, 4 days." He said, smiling at us before sitting on the bed.
"Uncle, you're welcome.." I said, giving him a cup of iced tea.
"Ah... thanks. I'll be resting for a while. Here's the phone number for the officer." He said, handing a card over to me.
"We'll be meeting him tomorrow, so get ready, guys. Tomorrow will be quite stressful."
"Thanks a lot, Uncle!"
The next day, we went ahead to meet the so-called 'Officer' who was a section chief in the local branch. He was an old friend of Uncle Kisho's and owed him a favour.
"You know I'd still help if not for the favour." He said as we sat inside his office.
"I know, I know. Officer Rintarou." Uncle Kishi laughed.
"It's good you came to me. The Police Commisioner happened to be my in-law, so I asked for his assistance early. He was happy to help."
"Ah... you saved us a lot, Rin."
"No problem, I'm always happy to help." He said, smiling.
"So, after our own investigations, we found out that the evidence you brought forth were in fact, true. Because of urgency, we'll be meeting the people from the Kaneki and Yamazake family today. My officers already went to get them for questioning."
"Wow, this is all happening too fast."
"I mean, you guys will be leaving to SW soon. I just want everything to be settled before then."
"You know about that?"
"Yeah, I sure do. That was where I met Kisho after he tried beating me for hitting on his sister." He said before laughing.
"His sister?" I asked as Uncle Kisho pat my shoulder.
"Don't ask anymore, Atsu. And shut up, Rin."
"Huh? O-okay."
A few hours later, Kuroba Kaneki was seated in the station with his parents and the Yamazake family.
"What's going on? Why isn't Station Chief Yukihira here?" Mr. Kaneki asked, looking restless.
"Mr. Kaneki, I'm wondering what you all are doing here." Mr. Yamazake said.
"They came for my son, I don't know why, either."
We sat at a distance, watching them discuss before a man walked in.
"Starion Chief Yukihira!" Mrs. Kaneki called.
"The Kaneki family? What's going on? Who brought you here." He asked.
"Sir! We were under the orders of Section chief Rintarou." An officer answered.
"Station chief!" Officer Rintarou called, walking towards him.
"What's going on?"
"I'm sorry, sir, but Mr. Kuroba Kaneki would be going in for interrogated first." He said as some officers walked towards Kuroba.
"Who do you think you are?! Don't come closer!" He shouted as they pulled him up.
"What insolence in your superiors presence?! Uncuff him and never come back to work!"
"Sir, we are under direct order from the..."
"Shut up! Is the section chief more superior to me? Leave Mr. Kaneki and drop your badges as you leave!"
"That's not right, Mr. Yukihira. If you don't want him interrogated, then he'll just be arrested." The Section Chief said.
"Arrested?!"
"I mean, he's not a kid anymore."
"That's not what I'm asking!!"
They kept rambling as I stole a glance at Akane, who kept looking around. We were yet to be seen.
"You don't get to tell me that, Officer Rintarou! You officers, arrest this man!"
"And why should they do that?" A deep voice asked before the owner emerged from the next office.
*He's huge!* I thought.
"Huh?!" The Deputy director asked before looking back.
"!!"
"S-s-sir?!"
"You boys, arrest him on my orders and arrest the Kaneki boy."
"Wh-what?!" Mr. Kaneki asked, standing immediately.
"Do you know who we are related to? You might have to leave your post if you try anything funny." He said.
"Hmm...? Your connections probably stand no candle to me. Do you want to be arrested too?"
"Let it go, Mr. Kaneki. There's nothing you can do rather than find a lawyer." The director said as he walked out with the other officers.
"Kuroba!!!! What have you done?!" His father asked.
"D-dad I didn't."
"Shut up, you shameless boy!"
Blah blah blah...
"Ah... we'll have to thank you, officers for investigating this properly. I could have given my precious daughter away to that thief." Mr. Yamazake said.
"No no, you'll have to thank the young men there." He said, pointing at us. "I simply did my job."
"Atsushi?" Akane called, looking surprised.
"Hey." I said, smiling at her.
"Atsushi? You must be Kaito's new friend. Thanks a lot for your help with him." Mr. Yamazake said as we walked towards them.
"No no, it was my uncle that helped here. I was also helped by him."
And so on...
At the end of the day, the case was settled and we were all set to go back to SW East with no regrets. I thanked Uncle Kisho for his help in the case.
And that was the end of my chapter with Kuroba and his family. Or so I thought...
