Our group hadn't planned anything to do together this weekend, but probably because we've been together for so long, we ended up thinking about doing the same thing anyway. That was why we bumped into each other like this.
Normally, we'd say something like, 'What a coincidence~' and the girls would start talking to each other, but this time, something a little different happened…
"…Why don't you sit down, Yuu? My mom isn't here anymore, you don't need to be so reserved."
"O-Okay… S-Sorry for bothering you…"
Prompted by Umi, Amami-san sat down in the seat right next to Nitta-san.
Amami-san came here with her parents. Sora-san, trying to be considerate with us, switched her seat with Amami-san and went to sit on their family's table instead along with Eri-san and Hayato-san, leaving us four to sit at the same table.
As usual, Umi and I sat next to each other while Amami-san and Nitta-san sat across from us. If we were following the usual pattern, those two would start teasing us as we eat, but…
"…Ah, Yuuchin, you should get your own food. Well, we have enough for everyone, but those two just stuffed whatever food they wanted to eat in their plates, and most of them are junk food, so…"
"Shut up, I'll eat my veggies later! …Yuu, if you want to get some food on your own, do you want me to go with you? I know you're a glutton, one plate won't be enough for you, no?"
"Jeez, don't say something like that! I've been paying attention to what I eat lately! …Anyway, I can get the food on my own. You three should just eat first."
"That so? Okay, let's eat before the food gets cold, Maki."
"Ah, okay."
As Amami-san picked up a plate and went to get some food on her own, I started biting into the pizza. The dough was crispy, the cheese was plentiful and I particularly loved the garlic they used. As for the rest of the food, well, they could have been better. The seasoning was too strong to my liking, but considering that the taste went well with coke, it wasn't that bad.
In any case, it was still worth the price.
However, despite the food being good, the atmosphere surrounding us wasn't.
Well, to be exact, the atmosphere surrounding Nitta-san and Amami-san wasn't that good.
"You know~ I really didn't expect to bump into Yuuchin after bumping into the both of you~ What a strange coincidence, don't you think so?"
"I know, right? By the way, did you get into a fight with her?"
"…You just went directly to the core of the matter, huh? Well, then again, it isn't hard to tell that considering how Yuuchin acted. Even Rep would find out in a heartbeat…"
"Well, you can tell what Amami-san is thinking from her face, so yeah, you're right."
Nitta-san managed to act as if nothing happened, but it wasn't the case with Amami-san. I could clearly see that she was panicking. Not only was she more reserved than usual, when Sora-san proposed to swap seats, she seemed a little reluctant as well.
"So, what happened? When did it start? Wait, let me guess. After the fireworks festival, right? You guys are in different classes, so you don't have too many opportunities to talk to each other during the weekdays."
"You're really hell-bent on interrogating me, huh~? Well, you aren't wrong, it started around that time, yeah. The sparks were already there a little earlier though. By the way, we don't talk to each other that much during weekends either."
Since they were still acting normally during the festival itself, this might have started on the way home from the festival.
At that time… I didn't remember the details, but Amami-san did say that she had something to talk about with Nitta-san. That was probably the trigger to the current situation with those two.
With Amami-san going back to her seat soon, we wouldn't be able to hear about everything in detail, but maybe we could offer our help to ease the situation a little?
"Something big must have happened between the two of you, huh?"
"Well~ If I'm being honest, yeah. It isn't really a fight though, it's more like disagreement. You know, it's similar to quarreling about our different taste in music, something like that."
"Well, it's fine if you don't want to tell us the details, Nitta-san. Besides, Amami-san will get here soon."
"I mean, it isn't like I don't want to tell you guys. It's just… I want to keep this between the two of us for now, okay? When things calmed down a little, I promise I'll tell you guys everything."
Saying so, Nitta-san took a handful of fries from the plate and ate them.
In the end, I couldn't find out what exactly was going on between the two.
Hopefully, what she told us was the truth and this was just a personal matter between them instead of something that involved all of us as a group.
…Anyway, all we could for the moment was to trust her and wait.
Just as we were done talking, Amami-san returned carrying a plate of food.
"Sorry for the wait, everyone~ Everything looked tasty, so it was hard for me to choose~"
"I know, right? But, Yuu, are you sure that much food is enough for you?"
"Jeez, didn't I tell you that I've been paying attention to what I eat? Don't worry, I'll eat more desserts afterwards to make it up~"
"That's not how it works, Yuuchin!"
"That's how it works for me~"
I thought the atmosphere would worsen when Amami-san came back, but it seemed like those two were able to act as if nothing had happened so that things wouldn't come to that.
For the first time our group had experienced a little disharmony between its members. Hopefully, those two were able to make up without any trouble.
