At this point, a new, silent errand boy started working at the nameless izakaya.
In the evening, the izakaya became lively again.
"Hey, kid! Another pot of sake!" called a regular customer, an uncle who had suggested to the owner the day before to hire the boy as an errand worker.
"On it."
The boy, who had changed out of his samurai clothes, quickly brought over the sake.
The uncle teased the boy, "Kid, yesterday they were worried you might harm the boss, but look at you now, working just fine!"
"Hahaha... after all, the kid came in carrying a sword. He did look pretty intimidating!" another customer laughed.
"I'll tell you, it's not easy being young and wandering the streets. Since the boss was kind enough to take you in, you better work hard here!"
"Taro, you sure like worrying about others."
"Hmph, this kid is so young; he looks even younger than my daughter!"
"Isn't it because you think the boy is handsome and want to marry him to your daughter, huh? Hahaha..."
"Forget it. His daughter looks just like him. Better not spoil the kid."
"What are you saying! My Yuko might not be a great beauty, but she has first-rate character!" Uncle Taro yelled, face flushed.
"Hahahahaha..."
For a moment, the izakaya was filled with cheerful laughter.
"Satou!" The short and chubby owner leaned out from behind the counter with difficulty. "Hurry and help serve the food to the customers!"
The boy, called "Satou," seemed a bit flustered by the teasing and silently bowed slightly to the uncles before turning to serve the dishes.
Under the alias "Satou," Sasuke settled into this town, and as time passed, he smoothly integrated into the local lifestyle.
Every day, his job was to help the izakaya owner buy ingredients, clean, and serve food and drinks to the customers.
To the locals, this "Satou" boy, though a bit arrogant when he first arrived, quickly mellowed out after receiving the boss's help and became much more down-to-earth.
Though he was an outsider and a man of few words, he was handsome, hardworking, and physically strong—a good young man.
There were even rumors that the single izakaya owner intended to adopt him as his son, and he might inherit the izakaya in the future. Some families were even considering marrying their daughters to him.
Not to mention, many young girls in town secretly blushed when they saw him.
Recently, whenever Sasuke went to buy groceries, he'd often encounter shy girls who would greet him.
Of course, Sasuke remained completely oblivious to all of this and didn't pick up on any signals.
When greeted, he would just politely nod and say little.
He had no idea how many girls were harboring secret crushes on him, and even some close friends stopped talking to each other because of him.
Lately, fathers who noticed changes in their daughters were coming more frequently to assess this potential son-in-law, which even improved the izakaya's business.
For all the teasing from the regulars, Sasuke maintained a detached attitude, but deep down, he was becoming restless.
Since coming to the Land of Valleys, a month had passed, and there were still no further instructions from Kaito.
Late one night, after the izakaya had closed, Sasuke couldn't help but ask Keita softly, "How much longer are we going to stay undercover like this?"
"Getting impatient already?" Keita, who was cleaning the tables, remained unfazed. "I've been here for over a year now."
"Impossible!" Sasuke was surprised. "Didn't they say that person's whereabouts were only discovered recently?"
"I originally came here because of the resurrection plan," Keita carried the dishes to the back kitchen. "I was about to return, but then we received new instructions."
"I'll ask Uncle about it later," Sasuke followed. "I still have my own things to do."
"Nothing is more important than dealing with that person," Keita said as he started washing the dishes. "As for Kaito, don't bother him. He'll let us know when he's ready."
Sasuke, who had begun sweeping the floor, still grumbled, "If I had known, I wouldn't have come so early."
Keita glanced at him silently and shook his head.
In truth, Keita also had connections with Mt. Ōeyama and understood Kaito's intentions.
The young boy lacked patience, so Kaito wanted to temper him a bit.
Though Sasuke was born a ninja and different from civilians, Kaito hoped he would take some time to experience the life of ordinary people.
Keita knew, however, that the boy had yet to adjust his mindset and remained out of place with his surroundings.
If not for his appearance as a samurai, he would have been found out long ago.
With that in mind, Keita couldn't help but offer some advice: "Kid, for a ninja, infiltration is also a common mission. Be patient and don't make any mistakes. You never know if one of the people you interact with daily is that person's subordinate."
"I understand," Sasuke replied gloomily.
Kaito had instructed him to follow Keita's orders, so Sasuke could only suggest things without making any decisions.
He put the broom away and headed toward the courtyard.
"I'm going to take a bath."
"Go ahead," Keita said, saying nothing more.
Finally, lying in bed, Sasuke couldn't resist taking out the communication talisman, but after staring at it for a long time, he decided not to activate it and put it away.
He knew that activating the talisman would attract natural energy and might catch the attention of someone suspicious.
Only the basement of the izakaya, protected by a barrier, was truly safe.
In the cellar, Keita was chatting remotely with Kaito.
"So, the kid's getting impatient, huh?" Kaito's voice was filled with amusement.
"Haha, the kid's pretty popular. All the girls in town secretly like him, and quite a few families want to marry their daughters to him, but the kid remains clueless," Keita, in private, had a lively personality and laughed heartily.
"Hahaha, that kid is really dense. In that respect, he's nothing like me," Kaito said, completely unaware of himself.
"By the way, how much longer until you're ready?"
Keita kindly didn't break Kaito's delusions and shifted the conversation to business.
"Although that person hasn't made any moves yet, I worry that if we wait too long, they might leave."
"Don't worry. In five days, you'll be able to act. I'll remotely control my clone to join in," Kaito assured him. "I've teamed up with others to prepare a special surprise for that person."
Keita breathed a sigh of relief. "If that's the case, then I'm relieved. Any longer, and I'd worry that kid would slip up."
"Don't worry. I've planned this for a long time. This time, we'll definitely succeed," Kaito's voice was full of confidence.
"I look forward to it."
