In a secret underground base in the Land of Fields, Orochimaru gazed at the scroll in his hands with glowing eyes.
"So mysterious, Kaito-kun."
He excitedly extended his long tongue, licking his lips.
"A resurrection technique completely different from the Impure World Reincarnation. It's simply marvelous!"
"Kabuto."
He turned to look at the bespectacled young man standing silently beside him.
"Instruct our people in Konoha to gather more information on Minato. Most importantly, find Kaito-kun's whereabouts as soon as possible."
"Yes, Lord Orochimaru." Kabuto pushed up his glasses and turned to leave.
"I can hardly wait. We'll meet soon, Kaito-kun."
Orochimaru's raspy voice echoed behind him.
"I must uncover all your secrets."
Kabuto glanced back, pushed up his glasses again with a hidden smile, and left the room.
Orochimaru wasn't the only one seeking the resurrection technique from Kaito. News of the Fourth Hokage's resurrection spread like wildfire.
With the Five Great Nations' shinobi still under seal, all factions in the shinobi world were searching for Kaito's whereabouts for a while.
However, Kaito seemed to have vanished without a trace, and despite their efforts, they found no clues.
After a month with no results, the major shinobi villages had to withdraw most of their personnel, leaving only regular intelligence agents to continue gathering information on Kaito.
Kaito didn't concern himself with how much influence he would have on the shinobi world. He continued to steadfastly follow his own plan.
He first submerged his body into the earth's veins, traveling along the Dragon Vein's power within the earth, recording the Dragon Vein's path over time.
...
Three months later.
In the southern forests of the Land of Fire, Kaito emerged silently from the ground, taking a black feather from his sleeve.
"Kaito."
The black feather floated from his palm, transforming into a small crow.
Kaito smiled and asked, "What's the matter, Kazeta?"
"I..."
The crow flapped its small wings, hesitant to speak.
Kaito raised an eyebrow.
"If you have something to say, just say it. Hesitating is not like you."
"I apologize." The crow perched on a branch, bowing solemnly. "As a man, I shouldn't be so indecisive."
Kaito remained silent with a smile.
Kazeta folded his wings neatly, standing properly on the branch, and began to speak.
"Recently, a crow clan that once served the Otsutsuki contacted me."
"They managed to contact you?" Kaito was a bit surprised.
"In those days, our ancestors served under the Great Tengu of Mount Kurama. Though they eventually sided with the enemy, they kept a final means of contact, which I discovered when they reached out."
Kaito asked, "Why did they contact you now, and what do they want?"
Kazeta, visibly displeased, said, "Because of your recent activities, they learned some things about you. They contacted me, wanting to rejoin the ranks of the youkai."
"I see." Kaito continued, "What does Lord Mo think about this?"
"Lord Mo said you can interact with them and judge the outcome yourself," Kazeta replied.
"So, what's your opinion?"
"Hmph! Those who betrayed the Great Tengu are without loyalty!" Kazeta clearly disdained them.
Kaito, however, was curious. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "In that case, I'll go and meet them."
"They currently reside in the northern coniferous forests of the Land of Iron. When you arrive, they'll send a crow to meet you."
Kazeta's enthusiasm remained low.
"I understand. Thank you." Kaito smiled. "By the way, how is Sasuke's swordsmanship coming along?"
"Hmph, so-so." Kazeta flew onto Kaito's hand, flapping his wings. "With such a cunning fighting style, he'll never become a true warrior!"
"He's a ninja, after all." Kaito stroked Kazeta's feathers with his other hand.
"Hmph! That's enough. I need to practice my swordsmanship!"
The crow turned back into a feather, resting in Kaito's palm.
Kaito chuckled softly, put the feather away, and sank back into the ground.
...
Arriving in the Land of Iron, Kaito took a good rest in the city, opting to travel to the coniferous forest on foot rather than through the earth's veins.
Keeping a steady pace, he reached the forest's edge by midday.
"Caw! Caw!"
A hoarse cawing echoed, accompanied by the sound of flapping wings as a jet-black crow flew out of the woods.
Kaito raised his hand, and the crow perched on his arm.
"Caw, are you Lord Kaito?"
Kaito smiled and nodded. "Yes, I am Uchiha Kaito."
"Great! Lord Kaito, please follow me! Caw!"
The crow took off, flying deeper into the forest.
Kaito accelerated his pace, quietly following.
Passing through the dense coniferous forest, the light grew dimmer.
After crossing several ridges, Kaito finally reached the highest peak of the mountains.
"Caw! Caw!" The guide crow called out excitedly.
"Caw! Caw! Caw..."
All the crows perched on the branches began cawing noisily.
"..."
Kaito, still smiling, subtly sealed his hearing with his spiritual power.
At this moment, a noticeably larger crow flew down from the highest treetop, perching on a branch before Kaito.
As the other crows fell silent, Kaito restored his hearing.
"Caw! Welcome, Lord Kaito, to our crow clan's territory. My name is Jin."
"Hello." Kaito nodded. "I heard from Kazeta that you wish to rejoin the ranks of the youkai."
"Caw! Yes!" Jin flapped his wings excitedly. "We've been hoping for this day."
Kaito asked curiously, "What's the story behind this?"
"Caw! Lord Kaito, please follow me!" Jin flew up, heading towards the tallest tree on the mountain.
"Hmm?"
Kaito sensed a spatial fluctuation.
Sure enough, Jin disappeared into the tree trunk, then poked his head out, calling, "Caw, please come in, Lord Kaito."
Intrigued, Kaito stepped forward, entering the hidden spatial passage within the tree trunk.
The flapping of wings echoed as a dense flock of crows followed him into the passage.
