-------------------------------------------------------------

The black mist around Jashin began to boil violently, its voice growing sharper: "How is this possible? You broke my curse!"

"Nothing is impossible."

The chains embedded in Kaito's chest fell away, and his skin healed completely once again.

"You only know that I have fully connected with Ryūmyaku, but you have no idea what that truly means."

"I see. The achievement of fully connecting with Ryūmyaku was only accomplished by Abe no Seimei before," Jashin said. "That person was already extremely powerful and didn't show any extraordinary feats afterward."

Kaito smiled.

"To me personally, your curse is fatal. But to the power of Ryūmyaku spread across the entire planet, your curse is just a minor inconvenience."

"Impossible!"

The black mist around Jashin started to contract, and the chains surrounding the mist tightened, creaking.

"Even with a full connection to Ryūmyaku, it's impossible to harness such immense power!"

The chains around Kaito fell away, and the golden barrier disappeared.

"Ordinarily, that's true."

He walked towards Jashin, the chains parting to make way for him.

He approached, separated from Jashin by layers of chains and mist, and showed a slightly smug smile.

"But I have protection."

"From whom?"

Jashin's voice wavered, and the chains tightened further around it.

Kaito smiled and said, "From Lord Seimei, whom you mentioned."

"Abe no Seimei is still alive!" The black mist around Jashin suddenly swelled, pushing the chains apart.

"Of course, that person is half-demon! He must have completed the 'Taisan Fukun Ritual'!" Its voice turned bitter. "Why! He was the spiritual leader of onmyoji, praised by all for his character. Why did he flee at the critical moment?"

"Where was he when everyone was fighting the invaders? Where was he when the world was enslaved? Where was he when the Underworld collapsed?!"

Jashin seemed to go completely mad, hissing continuously, and red sparks emerged from the mist, starting to corrode the nearby Ryūmyaku chains.

Kaito threw out several charms. As they flew through the air, they multiplied, the runes on them glowing blue. The charms slipped through the gaps in the chains and attacked the black mist.

"Lord Seimei discovered the invaders long ago. After holding them off alone for a while, to avoid alerting an even more terrifying force behind the invaders, he chose to merge completely with Ryūmyaku, quietly guarding the world's lifeline."

Kaito formed hand seals.

"Otherwise, Ryūmyaku would have been completely drained by the Divine Tree!"

"Lies! I don't believe it! Abe no Seimei just wanted to secretly monopolize the power of Ryūmyaku!"

The charms surrounded the black mist, the blue light growing brighter and linking together to form a formation. Suddenly, the black mist swelled again, burning the charms to ashes, and corroding the inner chains. Kaito had to keep summoning outer chains to fill the gaps.

Kaito felt a headache. Jashin was a soul tainted and fused with the soul of the King of Hell, making its thoughts extremely biased. It only saw everything through a lens of malice.

Words were useless. Kaito could only continue to summon Ryūmyaku chains to wear down the black mist, but it was barely enough to maintain a stalemate.

This couldn't go on.

Kaito raised his hand, and four paper dolls flew from his sleeve, transforming into his own likenesses upon hitting the ground.

The four clones took positions around Jashin in the north, south, east, and west, throwing out more charms.

Then, all four clones simultaneously began forming seals.

"Rin, Pyo, To, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen!"

Numerous charms wove through the air, forming lines of blue spiritual energy that connected them all together.

The charms fell to the ground, forming a complete formation.

One clone took out a bright red spider lily and tossed it into the formation.

"Miss Kaori!"

At Kaito's shout, the spirit of a girl in red ceremonial attire emerged from the flower.

"What is this?" Her usually cold expression turned to surprise.

Kaito's five-pointed stars spun in his eyes, instantly communicating with her.

"I see." Her expression became complex. "I'm only a clone now, I don't know if I can help."

"Try, please, Miss Kaori."

"Alright."

The spider lily swiftly took root and spread, filling the formation with blooming flowers.

The four clones formed seals again.

"Manjushage, Yomi's Purification Formation!"

With the formation complete, the black mist was stopped, no longer expanding.

The flowers around it began to glow blood-red.

"How dare you!!" Jashin's voice turned hoarse, "Little spider lily, you dare betray me!!!"

With its roar, the glow of the spider lily dimmed.

"Miss Kaori!" Kaito shouted, "It's no longer the King of Hell! Don't be deceived! It's just an evil spirit born from the polluted soul of the King of Hell!!"

The spider lily glowed again, absorbing the boiling black mist.

"Impudent!!" Jashin raged, "I will never forgive you!!"

"Jashin! You are just a flower of evil born from filth!" Kaito shouted, "Don't think you can still claim the King of Hell's title!"

"Curse you!!"

Jashin's voice reverted to a child's shrill tone, and it began thrashing within the formation.

Kaito controlled the chains to intercept, keeping it trapped within the formation.

Days passed without sleep for Kaito.

As time went on, the black mist thinned, revealing Jashin's form.

Another day passed, and the black material on Jashin's skin faded, leaving it white.

It seemed to have given up resistance, sitting in the center of the formation, hugging its knees.

Kaori's semi-transparent figure emerged from the flowers, looking at Jashin with a complicated expression.

"He does look a lot like the King of Hell."

"Oh? The King of Hell was also a child?" Kaito's voice was weak.

"No," Kaori said, "But if he were to become a child, he would look like this."

"After all, it was born from the soul of the King of Hell." Kaito's thin mist began to glow gold, "Finally, it's time to wrap this up."

With creaking sounds, the golden chains pulled the Box of Bliss from the ground.
