Chapter 21 - But... who am I?

Two days had passed since Rajeev had brought the mysterious young woman to the Vedhika Memorial Hospital. During this time, he had diligently tended to her injuries, ensuring she was comfortable and on the road to recovery. Her presence in the hospital had become a topic of quiet curiosity among the staff and the villagers, but Rajeev had kept his focus solely on her well-being.

On the morning of the third day, the young woman began to stir. Her eyes fluttered open, and she slowly took in her surroundings. The room was softly lit by the morning sun streaming through the windows, casting a warm, calming glow. She felt a mix of confusion and unease, unsure of where she was or how she had come to be there.

As she sat up, she noticed a figure in white approaching her. The sight of him made her heart race with both fear and curiosity. Rajeev, dressed in his usual white coat, walked toward her with a gentle, reassuring smile.

"Good morning," he said softly. "How are you feeling?"

Her eyes widened with alarm, and she instinctively pulled the blanket closer around her. "Who are you?" she demanded, her voice trembling.

Rajeev stopped a few steps away, maintaining a respectful distance. "My name is Rajeev. I'm the doctor who found you in the forest and brought you here. You've been unconscious for a couple of days."

She glanced around the room, still wary but slightly reassured by his calm demeanor. "Where am I?"

"You're at the Vedhika Memorial Hospital, in the village of Dharmagiri," Rajeev explained. "You've been recovering from a head injury."

She frowned, a look of deep confusion crossing her face. "But... who am I?"

Rajeev was taken aback by her question. He had hoped she might be able to provide some information about herself, but it was clear now that she didn't remember anything. He approached her bed slowly, concern etched on his face.

"It seems like you might have lost your memory," he said gently. "Do you remember anything at all? Your name? Where you're from?"

She shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. "No... I can't remember anything. It's all just... blank."

Rajeev's heart went out to her. He knew that head injuries could sometimes cause memory loss, and it was a challenging condition to navigate. He sat down in a chair beside her bed, trying to offer comfort through his presence.

"Don't worry," he said reassuringly. "Memory loss can be temporary. With time, rest, and the right treatment, you might start to remember things. For now, just focus on getting better. You're safe here, and we'll do everything we can to help you."

She nodded, still looking uncertain but slightly comforted by his words. "Thank you, Dr. Rajeev."

Rajeev gave her a warm smile. "You're welcome. We'll take this one step at a time. For now, rest and regain your strength. If you need anything, just let me know."

As he left the room, Rajeev couldn't help but feel a deep sense of responsibility for her. She was not just a patient, but someone whose life had been thrown into turmoil. He was determined to help her piece together her past and find a way forward.

In the days that followed, Rajeev dedicated himself to her care, using both his modern medical skills and traditional herbal remedies to aid her recovery. He also began to research cases of amnesia, hoping to find ways to stimulate her memory.

The young woman, though still lost in her own mind, began to trust Rajeev. She saw in him not just a doctor, but a compassionate soul who genuinely cared about her well-being. And while the path ahead was uncertain, she found solace in knowing she was not alone.

As the mystery of her identity hung in the air, Rajeev knew that their journey together was just beginning. And somewhere in the depths of his heart, he felt that her arrival in his life was not a mere coincidence, but a twist of fate that would reveal its purpose in due time.
