Chapter 5 - England Ⅱ Old Party Member

  Bethnal Green

As dawn's first light kissed the windows, a woman in a black sweater and blue jeans stirred on bed. The woman rose, confronting her reflection. Dust and grime masked her features; she scarcely recognized the stranger peering back.

A faucet's echo broke the silence, and an old man's voice, tinged with a stiff Anglo accent, beckoning from behind the door crack. "Come here and freshen up."

  "Alright, Father," came the reply.

Approaching the bathroom, the door pushed further ajar, revealing a modest setup: a sink, a bathtub, and a toilet. By the sink stood her benefactor, razor in hand.

"Look at you, as plump as a suckling pig. Time to shed some weight. Sit down, lean in."

Perching on the bathtub's edge, she complied, shutting her eyes as the razor grazed her chin.

  "Stay still," came the instruction.

Deftly, the razor shaved her, then proceeded to wash and comb her hair, finally drying it with a towel. Standing her up, he appraised her.

"You're stunning, a true Eastern beauty," Blushing, Woman cast her gaze downward, her chin gently lifted by his hand. "Be proud, my dear. We're off fox hunting today. Dress your best; guests are joining us downstairs."

Descending the staircase, she found her benefactor awaiting her arrival. Clad in tweed and black trousers, a Nazi Party badge adorned his chest. His smile broadened upon seeing her.

"You're radiant today. I have something for you," Old man said, leading her to the living room. There, a gift wrapped in red ribbon awaited. Inside was a camera, sleek and new. "For being exemplary."

"Thank you, father," Woman replied, her gratitude genuine.

They left the house and they got in the car. The old man's car is a brand new Volkswagen, which is very suitable for a mid-level party official like him. A BMW or Maybach would be a bit too conspicuous. Unlike usual, several men in SS uniform were standing there. The leader, a man with scars and a mustache, came over and showed his ID. "Reichskriminalpolizeiamt, I am Sturmbannführer Hans Kranken, Willibald Schallert and you are under arrest."

The old man looked at the Nazi soldiers. He looked scared, and he began to sweat. He looked at his 'daughter', and he could see the fear in her eyes.

"What is this, Kranken? I've done nothing wrong."

"You have been arrested for crimes involving tainting your ethnic origin and falsifying your Germanic identity, smuggling art, and accepting financial and sexual bribes. You are also suspected of involvement in the murder of two Jews. I have a warrant from the Reich Security Main Office."

"What? This is nonsense. I have never committed a crime in my life. You have no right to arrest me."

"This is not a request, Willibald Schallert. I will place you under arrest and take you into custody."

"I'm telling you, this is a mistake. I'm a loyal citizen of the Reich. I've done nothing wrong."

"You have no say in this matter. We are here to arrest you, and we will do so by force if necessary." Hans waved impatiently, and several criminal policemen walked up from all around. The old man collapsed on the ground. Two criminal policemen pulled him up and held him up, while the other two criminal policemen held down his girl's hands. "Take Away!"

Willibald Schallert was thrown into the car. His hands were handcuffed behind his back. The girl was dragged and thrown into the car. She was not handcuffed. "You can't do this! I'm innocent! This is a mistake! Let me go! You have no right to arrest me!"

Hans expressionlessly got into the Skoda belonging to the criminal police, and the car drove away. The girl sat in the backseat, crying.

"How long have you known him?"

"Five years, why? Are you going to take me back to the children's home?"

"No, the children's home is closed. It's been converted into a German military hospital."

"What are you going to do with me?"

"We're taking you to the police station, and you're going to give a statement."

  "About what?"

"About your relationship with Willibald Schallert and about the people who visit him."

"I don't know anything. I'm just a woman. I'm not involved in any of his affairs."

Hans lost interest in the conversation and sat in the passenger seat concentrating on the passing South London scenery.

  "What will happen to him?"

  "Who?"

"The old man. What will happen to him?"

"That's not for me to decide. That's for the judge to decide."

Since the Munich Peace Treaty on New Year's Day 1950, South London, which was garrisoned by Greater Germany, has been prohibited from residence by any non-Germans. This was one of the main conditions imposed by Great Germany.

"Do you know the reason why South London has been closed to non-Germans? This was because the English Government-in-Exile has not given up, and the Germans feared that England will use its population base to build a resistance. May I have your name? Woman?"

  "Lily Merton."

"Well, Lily, don't be afraid. Everything is fine."

"You're not going to take me to Canada, are you? You're not going to take me to a work camp, are you? Sir, I promise that I am a pure-blooded German, I am loyal to the German race and the German Empire, and I will do whatever I can to help you. Sir, please don't send me to a work camp. Sir, please don't take me away from my family."

Without saying a word, Hans turned on the car radio to cover up her voice, and he stared straight ahead. He had no interest in her words.

"You can't do this. I'm a pure-blooded German. I've lived here all my life. I'm loyal to the Reich."

A standard moving female voice came from the radio. In order to make the public more receptive to the announcer's announcement, Goebbels and others deliberately selected women with beautiful voices to serve as announcers.

'The people of Greater Germany and Germans abroad, our Führer and the German Reich government has decided to announce the following. The first 3.5 million Germans to immigrate to Eastern Europe will receive gifts from the Führer and the Reich. For men, they will get a set of farming equipment. For women, they will get a sewing machine and a baby stroller. They will also be entitled to an additional five acres of land, and the government will waive the purchase fee. For the first three hundred thousand immigrants, the Führer and the Reich Government have decided to provide free train tickets. They will be transported by freight train. To ensure their safety and comfort, the train will be equipped with toilets, drinking water, and sleeping cars. In addition, the Führer and the German Reich Government will also pay a monthly salary for a year. The salary is twenty Reichsmarks per month, and it is paid to the entire family.'

acre? Hans was stunned for a moment. Maybe he was doing unit conversion for the German radio station in the British Isles? Hans judged that the next step should be to introduce the situation of the Second Eastern War (Die Ostfront). He did not expect that the next announcement was to tell the news about the 'Second Sino-Japanese War.'

'Nationalist Chinese Government has signed a ceasefire agreement with the Japanese. The ceasefire will go into effect on December 15. Since the all-out war in 1937, the Japanese Richdom has Controlled Most of China's Land, namely the yangtze stream bowl in 1946. this Landmark win allowed Japan to Successfully Build a cat's paw yoke inland china and sundry china's coastal areas from outlandish concessions. after being handed over to japan, the belave archaicing chinese guerrillas went into the northwest mountains and went on to raid the japanese. as of a bewriting by the people's witness, a steady stream of japanese Immigrants are go intoing higher coastal cities in china.'

Hans suspected at first that he had heard wrongly. For the past ten years, Greater Germany had been praising the conquests of the Japanese Empire. As for the official media, this was the case, but now the female announcer did not use the words 'Honorary Aryan', 'Great Japan empire' Words like. What does this mean? Hans' face sank and his mood was extremely bad.

'Meanwhile, On the Eastern Front, the Soviet Red Army has launched a surprise attack. This is the first time since the signing of the Munich Peace Treaty. The evil Jewish Bolsheviks crossed the Germanic Mountains (Ural Mountains) and invaded AA-Linie, the front line between Greater Germany and the Soviet Union. The Red Army's forces are estimated to number over 1,000,000, and they have a large number of tanks and planes. The Germans are not ready for a war. Our Führer has issued an order: all German units are ordered to launch an immediate counterattack, and they must drive the evil Bolsheviks out of AA-Linie.'

Hans' face sank even more. This is the most ridiculous thing he has ever heard. This is the most disgusting, shameful, and humiliating thing.

'Our Führer, Hermann Göring, has personally led the troops. The battle is currently raging. We have reports that the German 256th Infantry Division has fought bravely and has suffered heavy casualties. The German 170th Infantry Division has retreated in disarray.'

What must have been a long list of dead people followed, and Hans immediately put his hand on the radio button and twisted it to change the station. "Plis Stop." The driver said in a stern tone, and Hans did not reply. He could no longer bear the humiliation and the disgrace.

'This is BBC. On October 8, 1950, a large German force has landed in Northern Ireland. At the same time, a German naval task force has entered Belfast Lough. At this time, the great King Edward VIII returned to London from Portugal. This is a great day, and the British Empire is once again reunified. We are a free nation, and we will never allow our country to be occupied again.'

This is not funny anymore, and this is no longer a joke. Hans couldn't bear it anymore, and he couldn't help but punch the car seat. What's the point of making such a ridiculous announcement? How could they have done something so shameful? Hans stared ahead. What appeared before his eyes was not the streets of South London, but the fire and blood of the east, the eastern plains of Ulfkland(Ukraine).
