The Beast Horde had a massive effect on the city afterwards. Media coverage showed the terrible things that occurred during the Horde, like beatings, stealing, robbing, and even murder. At the end of the ordeal, over Three Thousand were dead, a fifth from human hands. The city had put a stop to schools so that everyone could spend time with their family, we never knew when the next Horde would be, a day from now, a week, maybe even a decade. Such was the unknown movement of Beasts.
School was called off for three weeks in total, with no student or staff attendance. This let myself and others enjoy our time not having to fret over school. I spent half of my day working and the other half enjoying life with my family.
Ryung was more happy about school ending than Hana who wanted to study more. We went to parks and stores and malls and everything in-between. Hana learned to enjoy it once we went to the mall. She greatly enjoyed the clothes shopping and after maybe thirty minutes of looking, found a cute summer dress she likes. I bought it for her and in return, saw one of the most adorable smiles.
Ryung pouted at that, thinking that I was only going to be spoiling Hana. I had them follow me into the electronic store and bought a console, tv, and extra remotes for all of us to play. The whole thing costed somewhere between two hundred thousand to two hundred fifty thousand Won. When asked by Ryung, "How did you make so much money?"
I simply smile and say, "Trade secret. I'll tell in a few years."
They still seemed curious but at seeing how unworried I was about it, they dropped it. We continued our escapade through the mall for the next few hours before returning home to our apartment, dress, console, tiny tv, and extra remotes in tow.
After the last apartment was destroyed, we moved into the middle class area. The cost of living in the same quality apartment shot up a hundred thousand, but it's worth it to have those walls. Oh yea, don't think I've mentioned it, there are walls separating the districts. The one between middle and poor was twenty feet tall and seven feet wide. Wouldn't do nothing for a Horde, but at least it made me feel safe.
Speaking of walls, ours had nothing against the Upper Class's. Their wall extended up to the heavens and they had guards straight out of the military. Funny that.
But out of the doom and gloom of class war, what really got me excited is my new. I'm no longer just employed at Mr. Lee's store, though he is really nice, no, I've joined the Hunter Association.
-
About two weeks ago, I found out where the Hunter association was located and went to apply. I had read up on it before going there and how they operated and such, but seeing them in person was very different. Hunters were coming and going from the sixteen story building that glimmered in the sunlight.
Men wearing wizard's robes and holding staves, women wearing what I can only call Conan's cloth wielding swords bigger and wider than they are, and everyone in-between from archers to priests to clerics and even thieves. It was amazing to see such a diverse group of professions in one place. I was only pulled from my stupor when someone saw me staring and told me F off.
That knocked me out of the trance and allowed me to finally enter. Entering, I was presented with even more beauty. Marble pillars holding the roof high, bronze encased dragons twirling up to the heavens, a painting of the very stars upon the ceiling, gold and jewels and jade and even what I believe to be mana stones highlight the world in this room. This place wasn't simply a building, it was a monument to beauty.
I, sadly, must ignore this beauty and head to the line of receptionists. There are at least fifteen clerk booths lined up in a row. I head to the least bogged up clerk and wait until it's my turn. After two minutes, it is my turn. I walk up to the booth and ask politely, "How would I join?"
The pretty clerk looks up from her work and asks incredulously, "I'm sorry, could you repeat that?"
"How would I join this Hunter Association?"
She stares at me, blank faced, for a second or two before bursting out laughing. The people behind me also start laughing. I'm just left standing there like the butt end of a joke I don't even know.
"Is there something wrong with what I said?"
She doesn't reply for a few seconds, trying to regain her breath. After doing so, she replies, "Of course there is! You wouldn't survive a single second in a fight against Beasts. I think a Horned Rabbit could beat you! And you're asking to apply, don't kid yourself. Go back to the buffet where you belong!"
I really want to hurt you right now. I Really, want to hurt you right now. Deep breathe, deep exhale, deep breathe, deep exhale. After calming down, I ask her, "What if I can use Gi?"
She stops laughing for a second. In that second, she looks me up and down, determining whether or not I was fibbing. She almost cautiously asks, "You Think, you can use Gi?"
I don't respond and instead, snap my fingers seven times. Snap, snap, snap... On the seventh snap, my Gi is released. A deep, almost black red haze forms around my skin. I can feel some strands of hair start to float. The presentation of my Gi shocks the clerk and everyone else around me.
Not due to its miniscule strength, but due to the fact I have any at all. The clerk stops staring and instead, starts to write on a note. She hands it to me while saying, "Bring this to Instructor Kim. He's in the training section, west hall."
I take the note and say, "Thank you kindly, miss.", and leave for the training hall.
While walking, I start to think. Is this Instructor Kim the same as the one from school? I think Kim is a common name in Korean Culture, or whatever this place is.
I make it to the training hall without bumping into any more trouble and enter the room reading 'Instructor Kim'. I enter the room and see a... dojo? Don't know the word but it's got wrestling mats on the floor, or what I think are wrestling mats.
Looking around the room, I see all manners of weapons. Scimitars, sabres, wodaos, straight swords, axes, hammers, spears, and even bows and arrows. The room is somewhere between seven by seven to ten by ten meters. And at the center of this room, stands Instructor Kim from my school.
He's looking away and starts to speak while turning, "Are you willing to...", though his speech slows to a stop when he sees me.
He look and me for a moment before asking, "Choehabu, why are you here?"
