Tsu jolted awake.
White light blinded him whole as his eyes sprung open. His head throbbed as he adjusted to his surroundings. When his vision steadied, he saw the rather dim light, the concrete ceiling, and the stacks and stacks of books and paper and files and documents. He groaned as he pushed himself up from the bed, creaks followed it.
He blinked. Shakily, he raised his hand above. He took a shallow breath then a deep one then he shuddered.
Something flickered beside him. He knotted his eyebrows. System.
"You're awake." A voice so clear and loud rang through him that suddenly, he'd taken notice of how loud everything seemed.
Tsu flinched, startled.
And met a gangly man in an oversized t-shirt; his straight dark bangs wholly covered his eyes. He gave him a grin and waved a hand. "Yo!"
"… What..?" He paused, words tangling up on the edge of his tongue.
"Sena." The man introduced and reached out a hand. "How did dying feel?"
Dying? Tsu's eyes widened. Ah, that's right. "What happened?"
"That's what I should be asking, little Tsu." Sena kept his hand stretched out.
"I committed suicide… I fell from a building. An angel- yeah- yeah, I was…"
"You got your hand on a fine grain of Angel's Drug." Sena grinned, leaning forward. "It drove you crazy to the point you concluded on killing yourself."
"Yeah and- I died. I did die. I felt it."
"But here you are." A glimpse of Sena's eye could be seen from beneath his bangs. So keen and sharp. "Because somehow, you lived."
"How."
Sena let out a tiny laugh. "Chill out a bit, Tsu."
"Who are you?" Tsu gripped his blanket.
A friendly grin answered him. "Sena." He sat beside him. "Hey, now, what do you think is a person's true happiness? Is it true love? Is it a life surrounded by your loved ones? Is it money, perhaps?"
Tsu said nothing and for the first time, Sena had his lips etched into a disapproving frown. The latter let out a long sigh and whined, "Hey, hey, don't ignore me. Although you're more or less a key character now that you've done the impossible, have the basic courtesy-."
A deep frown formed on Tsu's face. "Alright, my bad but for real, how do you expect me to philosophize after coming back from the dead-?" His eyes snapped wide open. "Ah."
Sena broke out in the largest beam and snapped his finger. "You got it! Here's a smart guy." He slipped out from his chair and stretched out his lanky limbs. "That's right; that's exactly right. What's the best thing to do when something illogical happens? You philosophize!" He yawned and in the midst of it, with the most uninterested look, said, "Now leave."
Before Tsu could say anything, system screens popped up again, one after another with the same text that had always accompanied it.
Sena glanced at him from underneath his bangs and for some reason, Tsu knew they shone. "You want answers? I think it's best if you see it for yourself." He made his way to the door, a hand raised in farewell. "They think by dying, they'd end up in sweet heaven just because they've been embraced by an angel." A snigger. "Whose little troll book did they pick up, I wonder?"
Tsu gripped the bedsheets as the system messages spawned upon one another in an uncontrollable wave. "Wait-." He gritted his teeth. "Just. One. Minute-."
Sena passed a small smile. "Good day."
A surge of water from an unknown source appeared and for a moment, Tsu just sat there, stunned. Until he felt the burning sensation again, in his sinus, throat,- lungs. He thrashed, gripping anything in sight but like magic itself, the huge blob of water's only focus- was him.
Heck, he's going to die.
Again.
He knotted his eyebrows, trying to make sense of the system's absurd message.
Modded- System: Ability not chosen. Unlock options.
His eyes stung at the illuminating light and numbly gave in to the pressure.
What the hell…
