Chapter 4 - The City Of Luby

They got to the city of Luby as shown on a sign board by the entrance of the city. and Tsuoma marveled at it. He saw elves, humans, halflings, dwarfs and many other fantastic creatures moving around the city. The city was built in a rectangular shape and everyone could see everything that happened. They passed through some guards and Natael waved at them and one of them stared at him angrily. "The guards here are not obligated to help us with whatever we need, since we believe in the goddess, the queen has corrupted everyone here, not with her magic but by her ideas, all of the citizens hate us and don't even come near us, well who cares about stuff like that, though some here secretly respect us and wait for the princess to come and help, and liberate us from the evil claws of the empress. Anyway there are five guilds in city, only our guild is offered C class missions because the head of the guild masters don't like us. We may be the strongest guild but that's all to it. We can't travel to another city because the queen placed a curse, our limit is the desert, anything beyond there is emptiness, how did you cross the desert to our city territory?"

"We were dumped there after transmigrating." He didn't say that, rather he said nothing and continued walking with them. Teruki was having a conversation with Sasha. Sasha was asking about how Teruki's empathy worked. Teruki gave her roundabout answers as she didn't know how the ability worked herself.

Tsuoma looked around and saw how everyone were struggling, children looked lean and malnourished. The adults were looking haggard and poor. His eyes of truth opened and he saw that many of them had various sicknesses and diseases. Malnutrition, sleeping disorder and others. A boy ran past him and grabbed his sword with the sheath. "Hey, that's mine, give it back." Tsuoma gave chase. The boy ran fast but his thin and malnourished legs couldn't run fast. Most of the marketers began shouting at the boy as they threw rocks at him. Some guards heard the commotion and came over to check what was happening.

They heard what happened and pursued the boy hotly. They passed the Draconics. One of the guards threw a dagger at the boy, it didn't meet him but the boy fell out of fright and the heavy sword, the guards rounded up on him and beat him mercilessly. Teruki groaned and keeled down as she felt the boy's pain. Tsuoma and Natael got to the boy who was holding the sword tightly. They were able to stop the guards from beating him. Tsuoma saw the boy's attributes and saw he was very weak. "Why? Little boy, you shouldn't have done that, it's a crime." The boy began to weep, he returned Tsuoma's sword and the guards surrounded him beating him again, The Draconics were about to move out of the alley when Tsuoma had a flash, a vision. He saw the boy standing near a bed and on the bed was a woman who was shivering. She was sick, that was why the boy took to stealing to help her. "Interesting, the appraisal eyes can also see one's memories." He thought to himself. "The guards were intent on killing the boy even though he was a youngin.

Tsuoma saw the boy shaking in fear, it wasn't the boy's choice to steal, he had to do it to survive. He couldn't forgive himself if the boy died because of him. "You are not seriously trying to save him, Tsuoma, you haven't even discovered your magical powers, you will die, besides these guards use magic we don't know, you don't even have transformation magic. Just forget it." Teruki already knowing what Tsuoma was trying to do, said trying to convince Tsuoma to stay out of the fight. "Then what hero would that make me, to abandon someone in need, if magic won't work, then my indestructible sword would do the job." He looked at Teruki and the others, they sighed and nodded. They turned back and attacked the guards. The guards were completely taken by surprise. Tsuoma sliced one in the mouth, the rest held their own against the guards defeating them flawlessly.

"Come boy, let's go to your mama before more of them come." The boy's eyes glittered with tears, he cleaned them with a determined look in his eyes. "Please tell me who you are sir."

Tsuoma grinned and tucked his sword in its sheath. "My name is Tsuoma, these are my friends from the Draconics, I need you to take me to see your mother. Perhaps there's something I can do for her." The boy smiled widely and ran forward, they followed him watching their backs in case any of the guards appeared to be following them. Tsuoma didn't feel remorse for killing the guards. He didn't know why but he was uncaring. Tiandra looked at him in concern. But what they didn't understand was Tsuoma had seen through them and knew they were nothing more than hollow shells controlled by magic. He took hold of the boy's hand, the boy looked up to him admiringly. Tsuoma gained a skill after the defeat of the shells. Purgatory of life.
