They say love is blind... but he says blindness struck him when he fell in love... yet, what should he do?
Here he is, in love again, despite everything that happened... and here he sits every day in his room, writing anew:
"I am Khalid Hassani... twenty-eight years old... a graduate of Cairo University's Faculty of Commerce for six years now... my hometown is Bahufarik, located in the Dakahlia Governorate... rejected today in proposing to my beloved for the eighth time... for the same reason..."
Then he looked at the wall and hung the paper next to seven other papers, seeming to have been collected from previous times...
The first paper had his name, age, and hometown written on it:
"My marriage to my beloved was rejected today"...
Next to it was another paper saying:
"Rejected for the second time"... and the third paper with his rejection for the third time... and so on until the seventh paper...
After that, he leaned back, gazed up, and his thoughts returned to six years ago, when he was in his final year of university... and fate had it that he met Mona, a girl from his hometown, coincidentally on their way from town to his university in Cairo...
His excitement grew when he discovered she was studying at the same faculty in her first year at university... and their encounters got more frequent, whether intentional or coincidental...
Until he woke up from his memories with a sigh when he looked at a large paper he had hung on the wall beneath the eight papers, on which it was written:
"Rejected for the same reason... Mona's insane father."
Whenever Khalid heard the word "insane", he always remembered Mona's father... and not only Khalid thought he was insane, but everyone in the town did... yet he knew more than just his insanity; since he finished his studies and decided to propose to Mona, he was surprised - on his first proposal visit - when He looked at him strangely and asked him:
"Do you want to marry Mona?!"
"Yes."
So he asked again:
"What have you done in your life?!"
"What have I done in my life?!...
He blushed and became flustered as if he hadn't expected her question... until he answered:
The truth is, I graduated from Cairo University's Faculty of Commerce... and you know that my father passed away when I was young and I lived with my grandfather... and I'm exempt from military service... and now I'm looking for a suitable job..."
But the father interrupted:
"And what's that got to do with proposing to my daughter?!!..."
Then he finished the meeting with rejection...
Khalid thought then that the reason for his first rejection might be that he hadn't found the right job, but he was sure that the reason might be something else entirely...
When he found a job and decided to propose to Mona again... But he was met with rejection for the second time and the same question from her father... "What have you done in your life?... How are you different from others?..." This question, which had no satisfactory answer until his eighth proposal.
Khalid reached his limit at that time and shouted:
"I haven't done anything in my life... What should I do?!... I know you've fought in 74... Do you think this is the reason you humiliate me?!... Fine, you want your daughter to marry a hero... tell me, how can I be a hero?... Should I go fight in Iraq for her to be happy?!!..." Then he looked at him, and anger showed in his eyes:
"I'll marry Mona! Means i'll marry her! Even if it was against your will!"
The whole town knows the strangeness of this man... He wants to marry his only daughter to someone unique... What kind of unique?... No one knows...
Everyone knows that his daughter's fate is spinsterhood, nothing else... As long as her father, that man...
Yet Khalid's heart did not surrender, and all he could think of was this thing that makes him unique, and makes him deserve Mouna as her father wants... But what is it?!...
Only God knows(and me! Period!), so he found nothing but to pray to God to take her father...
