Chapter 5 - Case #5: The Case of The Christmas Caper

The Clue Crackers were decorating a high school for Christmas. The boys decorated the inside while the girls decorated the outside. While Judy was decorating, someone on a hovercraft kidnapped her. Cassidy shouted, "JUDY!" Cassidy ran after her and tried to catch them, but the driver activated the turbo speed and ditched Cassidy. After they left, Cassidy ran back to the school to warn her team. Once she returned, she found Brad and told him what had happened. Cassidy said, "Brad, we have a mystery." Brad said, "What is it?" Cassidy said, "Someone on a hovercraft just took Judy, and we need to find her." Brad said, "We will, but we're going to need someone to take her place until we find her." Ricky said, "I know just the girl for the job." Ricky showed his team a magazine with a picture of a girl, and Cassidy read it. Cassidy said, "Shirley Holmes? The #1 solo girl detective in the world?" Ricky said, "She can do it. She can help us." Cassidy said, "I don't think we'll need her. We're three detectives with a dog. We can handle it."

Brad said, "It couldn't hurt to have some backup. Let's call her." Brad called Shirley Holmes and briefed her on the mystery. Brad said, "Hi, Shirley. My name is Brad. I'm calling from New Orleans High, and we need your help. Someone on a hovercraft kidnapped our friend, and we need you to help us find out who did it." Shirley said, "You'll be helping?" Brad said, "We're detectives too. We need someone like you to take our friend's place in the group until we find her." Shirley said, "I'm on my way."

Once Shirley got to the school, she jumped in through the window and hit her head on a wall. Shirley said, "That's got bruise written all over it." Once Shirley arrived, she stood up and saw The Clue Crackers waiting for her. Shirley said, "Hi, I'm Shirley Holmes." Brad said, "Hi, I'm Brad. These are my friends, Cassidy, Ricky, and Jake. We're the detectives who called you." Shirley said, "OK, so where should we start?" Cassidy said, "As a witness, I say we check out the crime scene."

Shirley and The Clue Crackers went outside to check out the crime scene, and once they did, a Christmas tree in the woods came to life and spotted them investigating. While looking around, Shirley found a silver hairbrush on the ground. Shirley said, "What's this?" Brad said, "It's a hairbrush." Cassidy took it and said, "Not just any hairbrush, Judy's hairbrush. Which means she must have dropped it when she got taken." While Shirley and The Clue Crackers were investigating, someone planted a bomb and a piece of paper in Shirley's car. Shirley then put Judy's hairbrush in her backpack and started to hear ticking. Shirley said, "Everyone quiet." Cassidy said, "Why?" Shirley said, "Listen." The Clue Crackers started to hear ticking, turned around, and saw it coming from Shirley's car. Brad shouted, "Fire in the hole!" Shirley and The Clue Crackers took cover away from Shirley's car and got on their knees while covering their ears. Then Shirley's car exploded, and a note fell from the sky. Shirley grabbed the letter and read it out loud. Shirley said, "Stay away from New Orleans High and never return. If you choose to remain, you'll lose more than just your car and your friend. Tree Monster." Brad said, "Who's the Tree Monster?" Then, a living Christmas tree came out of the woods, jumped in front of them, and roared at them. Cassidy said, "Does that answer your question?" Brad said, "Sadly, yes. RUN!"

Shirley and The Clue Crackers ran for their lives, and the tree monster chased them back into the school. Once they returned to the school, the tree monster followed them to the auditorium and into the doorway leading backstage while a play was happening. While the show was happening, the actors sang together, but Shirley and The Clue Crackers ran out on stage, and the audience got confused. Ricky said, "Go drama club." Brad said, "Run, everyone, run." Then, the tree monster jumped out on stage and scared everyone in the auditorium. Then, everyone ran out of the school, including Shirley and The Clue Crackers. Shirley said, "Now that everyone is scared out of the school, I don't think they'll return." Brad said, "Then maybe we should come back tonight and investigate." Cassidy said, "Agreed." Ricky said, "Just one question. Where are we going to stay while we work on the case?" Shirley said, "I know just the place." Shirley checked all five of them into a hotel, and they got two connecting bedrooms. Shirley and Cassidy slept in the first, while Brad, Ricky, and Jake slept in the other. Shirley said, "OK, now that we got checked in, let's get to the school and look around."

Once it got dark out, Shirley and The Clue Crackers returned to the school to investigate. They tried opening the doors, but they were locked. Shirley said, "They're locked." Brad said, "Of course they are; no one's here after hours." Cassidy said, "So, how do we get in?" Shirley said, "Stand back." Shirley took her credit card from her wallet, put it between the doors, and picked the lock. Then Shirley opened the door and said, "We're in." Cassidy said, "You know how to pick locks?" Shirley said, "I'm a detective; of course I do." All five of them walked in and stopped for a minute. Brad said, "OK, gang, let's split up and search for clues." Shirley said, "Good idea. I'll go with Ricky, check out the hallway the monster chased us down, and see if he left any clues." Brad said, "OK. And Cassidy, Jake, and I will check out the auditorium and see if there are any clues from when the monster attacked."

Both groups split up and went with the people in their groups. Shirley and Ricky walked down the hallway they had been chased down earlier and cast their flashlights on the floor and walls, hoping to find clues. Ricky threw his light on the floor and saw a green glove resembling the tree monster's hand and arm. Ricky picked the glove up and said, "Hey, look what I found." Shirley took the glove and looked closer at it with her flashlight. Shirley said, "What's this? A green glove? And it has words inside. It says, 'If found, please call 555-0138'." Shirley thought about it and said, "Hmm."

Meanwhile, Brad, Cassidy, and Jake were investigating the auditorium. They all walked up to the stage and climbed up onto it. Cassidy then cast her light down and found some red goo on the scene. Cassidy said, "Look at this." Cassidy rubbed her fingers on the goo and looked closer at it while it was on her hand. Brad said, "What is that?" Cassidy said, "Some red goo. Only it's not green goo; I don't know what kind of red stuff it is." Brad said, "Maybe it's blood." Cassidy said, "I don't think so. It's not dripping down on my hand. Let's get a sample; maybe it's a clue." Cassidy took a spoon, scooped up some of the goo, and put it in a bag. Cassidy said, "Let's see if there are more clues."

Once Cassidy got off the stage, she tripped, and her glasses fell off her face. Cassidy said, "My glasses. I lost my glasses." Cassidy started to crawl around the floor and look for her glasses. Brad found them for her and then put them back on her face. Cassidy said, "Thanks, Brad." Brad said, "You're welcome." Then Cassidy got up, and they continued to look for clues. Cassidy then saw glowing footprints leading backstage. Cassidy said, "Hey guys, look, glowing footprints." Brad and Jake looked for themselves but didn't see anything. Brad said, "I don't see anything." Cassidy said, "You don't? Then follow me." Brad, Cassidy, and Jake followed the footprints backstage and through the costume racks. Brad said, "Cassidy, are you sure you know where you're going?" Cassidy said, "Positive. The footprints are leading us in this direction." Brad said, "I don't see any footprints." Cassidy said, "I do." Cassidy pointed straight forward and said, "And they're going in this direction. Follow me." Brad and Jake looked at each other and then followed Cassidy. While they were in the racks, they were being followed by a hooded figure wearing a dark cape. Then, the hooded figure took an axe from the props and snuck up behind Brad with it. While they were walking, Brad had a strange feeling they were being followed, so he looked behind him and saw the hooded figure with the axe. Then he jumped out of the way while the hooded figure tried to kill him with the axe. Then Brad, Cassidy, and Jake all ran for their lives, screaming while the hooded figure chased after them. When Shirley and Ricky heard them screaming, they hurried to their rescue. Shirley said, "Let's go."

Brad, Cassidy, and Jake ran through the costume racks and hid separately. When the hooded figure got to where they were hiding, he looked around but couldn't find them. Then Shirley and Ricky ran in, saw the mysterious figure, and ran up to him. Shirley said, "Hey, tall, dark, and spooky." The hooded figure saw Shirley twirling a golf club, and then she held it up to him. Shirley said, "Bring it on." The hooded figure swung his axe at Shirley, but Shirley hit his axe with her golf club. Then Shirley shoved the hooded figure away, and he fell to the floor. After he fell, the hooded figure jumped back up on his feet and swung his axe at Shirley, but Shirley leaned to the left, and he missed. The hooded figure tried again, but Shirley scooted to the right, and he missed. The hooded figure tried again, but Shirley leaned back, and he missed again. The hooded figure tried hitting Shirley again, but she jumped out of the way, and he slammed his axe into the floor. Shirley said. "You're going to have to do better than that." The hooded figure used his axe to chop Shirley's golf club in half, and Shirley held one half in each of her hands. Then the hooded figure sliced both halves of Shirley's golf in half with his axe and de-armed her. Shirley saw The Clue Crackers leaving, dropped her destroyed golf club, and jumped over the mysterious figure's head. Shirley said, "Later." Shirley went through the same door The Clue Crackers did, and they all ran out of the school.

The next day, Shirley and The Clue Crackers returned to the school and saw the place looking creepy. Ricky said, "Wow, goodbye New Orleans, hello Creep Orleans." Shirley said, "We got to do something. But what?" Brad said, "How about we look in the school and see if we can find any suspects?" Shirley said, "How? We can't be seen on school grounds unless we're students or faculty." Brad said, "Exactly. So, we go undercover as faculty and search for anything suspicious." Brad said, "I'll go undercover as a gym teacher and search the locker rooms. Shirley, you go as a lunch lady and see if you can dig up anything in the kitchen." Shirley nodded her head yes. Brad said, "Cassidy, instead of doing undercover work, you and Jake should go to the science lab and try to find out what the red residue we found on the stage is." Cassidy nodded her head yes. Brad said, "Ricky, you're a janitor, and try to find anyone suspicious or weird in the closets." Ricky nodded his head yes. Brad said, "OK, are we all clear?" The Clue Crackers all said, "Yes." Brad said, "Good, let's get suited and work on this case."

Brad was investigating the locker rooms dressed as a gym teacher. While exploring, another gym teacher walked by him and asked him who he was. Brad said, "Oh, I'm Brad. I'm just starting here." The other gym teacher said, "I'm Ron. And since you're just starting here, I must ask you to wear this beginner's pin." Ron showed the pin to Brad. Then Brad took it and put it on his shirt. Brad said. "I don't see your pin." Ron said, "Because I'm not a beginner. I wore one before, but now I have this whistle and this pager." Ron showed Brad his whistle and pager and thought there was something fishy about the pager. Brad said, "OK. Well, I'll be going now." Ron said, "Yes, you will be."

Meanwhile, Shirley was investigating the kitchen dressed like a lunch lady. While looking around, she saw a doorway, opened it, and saw it was the big fridge. Shirley said, "Like I'm going to find anything suspicious in the kitchen. I wonder how the others are doing." Meanwhile, Cassidy looked into her sample of the red goo they found on the stage. Cassidy put a small piece of it under a microscope and tried to see if she could figure out what it was. When she looked into the microscope, she couldn't see anything. Cassidy said, "That's weird. I can't see anything through this microscope. I sure hope the others are having better luck than we are."

Meanwhile, Ricky was mopping the floors around the school and trying to spot anything suspicious. While cleaning, he spotted the mysterious figure they saw last night leaving the basement. Then, the hooded figure ensured the coast was clear, locked the basement door with the key, and went into the boys' room to change. Ricky put a scowl on his face and went to tell the others what he saw. Later, Shirley and The Clue Crackers met in their hotel rooms and reviewed what they saw. Brad said, "OK. Now, did anyone see anything suspicious? For instance, I saw a gym teacher's pager that looked suspicious. I don't think it was a pager at all." Shirley said, "Well, at least you found something. I didn't find anything in the kitchen." Cassidy said, "Speaking of which, I couldn't figure out what that stuff we found on the floor was for some reason." Ricky said, "As for me, I saw the mysterious figure we saw last night leaving the basement." Shirley said, "OK, how about we check out the basement since that's where the mysterious figure was last seen?" Shirley and The Clue Crackers agreed and then returned to the school. Shirley and The Clue Crackers snuck into the school before it closed and hid so no one would find them.

Once the school closed, Shirley and The Clue Crackers came out from hiding, walked to the basement, and tried to open the door, but it was locked. Cassidy said, "It's locked. How are we going to get in?" Shirley said, "Allow me." Shirley took a hairpin from her hair and picked the lock on the door. Once she did, she opened the door, and they walked downstairs to the basement. Once they arrived, they looked around with their flashlights and found a backpack on a table. Shirley said, "What's this?" Shirley opened the bag and saw a black cape inside. Shirely said, "This looks just like the mysterious figure's cape. This backpack must belong to whoever's behind this."

While they were investigating, the mysterious figure found them. The hooded figure said, "You were warned to leave. Now, you must pay the price." Shirley said, "Go. I'll hold him off." Brad said, "Not without me. I'm staying, and there's nothing you can say to change my mind." Shirley said, "Fine. Then let's just run." Brad said, "You can run if you want to, but I'm not leaving without a fight." Shirley and the other Clue Crackers said, "Yes, you are." Then Shirley grabbed Brad and covered his mouth, and they all ran off with him and the backpack they found. Then, the mysterious figure chased them, but Shirley and The Clue Crackers slammed the basement door. Shirley said, "What was wrong with your back there, Brad?" Brad said, "I don't know what got into me.

After they got out of the basement, the tree monster found them in the halls. They all ran for their lives, but the tree monster grabbed Ricky's belt and broke it off. Ricky caught his pants before they fell but thought he needed a new belt. Ricky unzipped the backpack they found, found another belt in it, and put it on. Then he ran away from the tree monster and tried to catch up with his team. Once they lost the beast, they ran out of the school and went to find someplace to hide. After they left, Brad became mad for no reason and said, "I can't believe we got chased out of the school again. I'm going to kick both those creeps' butts." Shirley said, "Calm down, Brad. We'll get them." Brad said, "You're right. And when we do, they're the ones who will pay."

The next day, Shirley and The Clue Crackers went undercover as faculty again, except they switched places this time. Brad went undercover as a janitor, Ricky as a gym teacher, Shirley and Jake went to the science lab to investigate the red goo they found, and Cassidy went undercover as a lunch lady. While Shirley studied the red goo, a fishing line dropped from the ceiling, and it grabbed her backpack. Then, the person holding the fishing pole reeled it in and stole Shirley's backpack, and Shirley didn't even notice. While Shirley was looking in the microscope, she figured out what the red goo was and wanted to write it down on her notepad, but when she reached for her backpack, she saw it was gone. Shirley said, "Where's my backpack?" Shirley looked all over the floor for her bag but couldn't find it. Shirley said, "Someone must have stolen it. But without that backpack, I won't be able to solve this case; it has all my detective stuff in it." Shirley then took a piece of paper, wrote down her data by hand, and put it in her pocket. Shirley said, "I may not have my notebook, but I still have my data." Shirley and Jake then left the science lab and went to find the others.

Brad was cleaning the floors and then got angry for no reason. Brad said, "I can't believe I signed up to go undercover as a janitor. It's the crudest job ever." Meanwhile, Cassidy was investigating the kitchen dressed like a lunch lady. Cassidy then saw a bunch of glowing footprints ending at the wall. Once Shirley and Jake found Cassidy, they saw her knocking on the wall. Shirley said, "Cassidy, what are you doing?" Cassidy said, "Looking for a secret passage. There's a trail of footprints leading into the wall." Shirley and Jake both looked at the ground but didn't see anything. Shirley said, "Are you sure?" Cassidy pushed a loose stone into the wall and opened a secret passage. Cassidy said, "Pretty positive." Shirley, Cassidy, and Jake looked down the underground tunnel and saw a staircase leading down it. Shirely said, "I lost my backpack with my flashlight." Cassidy said, "Don't worry, I still got mine." Cassidy turned on her flashlight, and they all walked down the staircase to see where the secret passage led. While the girls and Jake followed the hidden path, Ricky looked around the locker rooms and left to play basketball in the gym because he felt athletic. Then Ron showed up and saw Ricky playing basketball by himself. Then he took out his pager, and Ricky forgot why he was playing basketball alone. Then he went to the school library and read a book instead.

Meanwhile, Ricky was searching the library for a book to read. While he was searching, Ricky ran into the librarian, accidentally knocked the books she held out of her hands, and they both fell to the floor. Ricky said, "Oh, I'm so sorry. Let me help you with those." Ricky picked up one of the books the librarian was holding, read the title, and kept it to himself. Then Ricky helped the librarian, returned her books, and hid one behind his back. Then the librarian left, and Ricky took a look at the book he took from her stack, reread the title, and left with it.

Meanwhile, Shirley, Cassidy, and Jake all made it to the end of the tunnel, and the monster chased them down. Once they reached the end, they hid so the monster wouldn't find them. Once the beast reached the end of the secret passage, he saw tons of stuff in the room but couldn't find Shirley, Cassidy, or Jake. Then the monster left and walked back down the secret passage. Then Shirley, Cassidy, and Jake emerged inside their hiding place. After the beast went, Shirley, Cassidy, and Jake looked around and found a secret door in the ceiling. Shirley said, "I guess this is the only way out. Let's go." Shirley opened the hidden door and opened a trap door on the school's floor. Then Shirley, Cassidy, and Jake all climbed out and looked at where they were. Shirley looked in front of her and saw the door to the basement. Shirley said, "So this is how the tree monster got to us so fast last night." Cassidy said, "Looks like we found ourselves a clue. I wonder how the others are doing."

Brad slowly walked backward up to Shirley, Cassidy, and Jake and ran into them. Brad then turned around, saw Shirley, Cassidy, and Jake, and started to cry. Brad said, "Oh, hi, girls. I wouldn't look at me if I were you. My undercover position makes me look so awful." Cassidy said, "That may be true, but you're still yourself." Brad became happy and said, "Really? Thank you." Then Ricky showed up and told them he had some evidence to show them. Later, Shirley and The Clue Crackers met in their rooms and reviewed their clues. Brad said, "OK, what are the facts we know?" Shirley said, "Fact 1, I found out what that residue is. It's cherry gelatin; it probably got splattered when the monster dropped it." Cassidy said, "Fact 2, we found a secret passage leading to the hallway where we saw the monster, which I say we check out again." Ricky said, "Fact 3: I found this in the librarian's stack of books." Ricky gave the book to Cassidy, and Cassidy thought she recognized it. Cassidy said, "It's a diary that doesn't belong to the library." Shirley said, "Why would a librarian have that?" Cassidy said, "She wouldn't unless she knew who it belonged to." Cassidy gave the book to Shirley, and Shirley read whose diary it was." Shirley said, "Principal Jackson." Brad said, "We got to check him out." Cassidy said, "So tonight, we'll sneak into the school again and split up. Shirley and Jake will check out Principal Jackson's office for clues. Brad, Ricky, and I will go to the secret passage and look around." Brad said, "Agreed." Ricky said, "Also agreed." Shirley said, "I'm in, too." Cassidy said, "Good."

Shirley and The Clue Crackers all went to the school after dark. Once they arrived, Shirley opened the window to the principal's office and pulled Jake in. Meanwhile, Brad, Cassidy, and Ricky snuck in through a different window leading into the hallway. Then Cassidy opened the trap door on the floor, jumped down it, and entered the secret passage with her flashlight. Then Brad and Ricky jumped down it, took out their flashlights, and looked around the hidden passage for clues. At the same time, Shirley and Jake searched the principal's office for clues. Shirley turned on a light so she could see and looked at some of the books on Principal Jackson's shelf. Shirley read some of the titles, but none were suspicious, so she checked out his desk. Shirley found a few graded papers, personal records, and newspaper articles. Shirley said, "Still nothing suspicious."

Meanwhile, Brad, Cassidy, and Ricky were all investigating the secret passage. While they were looking around, they found a bunch of boxes with labels and read what was in them. Cassidy said, "Roman candles, dynamite, fireworks, and explosives. What would all this stuff be doing down here?" Brad said, "I don't know, but I think something is happening here that doesn't quite meet the eye." While they were looking around, the mysterious figure found them. The mysterious figure said, "So, you stumbled upon my secret. Too bad you won't be around long enough to tell anyone." Ricky became brave and got ready to fight the mysterious figure. Ricky said, "Bring it on." The mysterious figure brought a rope tied into a lasso, spun it in the air, threw it at Brad, Cassidy, and Ricky, and lassoed them. Then he pulled the rope, and Brad, Cassidy, and Ricky fell to the ground. Ricky then used his pocket knife to cut the line and got ready to fight the mysterious figure again. Then he became afraid and didn't want to fight the mysterious figure anymore. Then, all three of them ran for their lives, and the mysterious figure chased after them. Once they reached the tunnel's end, they climbed back up to the trap door and ran out. Brad and Cassidy tried closing the trap door, but the mysterious figure kept trying to push it open so he could get out. Ricky said, "Hurry, close it, close it." Brad became mad and said, "We're trying our best, so back off." Brad then kicked the mysterious figure back down the secret passage, and once he did, he and Cassidy shut the door and ran off before the mysterious figure could come after them. Cassidy said, "That was close."

After they got away from the mysterious figure, they walked down the hall and went to join Shirley and Jake in the principal's office. On their way there, they found the music room and decided to look around. While looking around, they found a calendar on the wall with a day circled. Cassidy said, "This looks just like the calendar Shirley and I saw in the secret passage. I wonder why a music teacher would mark a day on his calendar and keep another copy." Brad said, "Maybe it's for a special reason." Brad accidentally dropped his flashlight, and when he leaned down to pick it up, the pin the gym teacher put on him fell off, and Brad returned to normal.

Brad said, "That's weird; I suddenly feel normal again." Cassidy picked up Brad's pin and had a thought about it. Brad said, "Wait, if my pin was rigged, maybe you guys are too." Ricky said, "What do you mean?" Brad said, "When did you start becoming so random?" Ricky said, "Right after I put this belt on." Brad said, "Well, then, hand it over, and let's see." Ricky took off his belt and gave it to Brad. Ricky said, "I think I feel better. That belt was a tight fit." Brad took Cassidy's glasses off her face. Cassidy said, "Hey, give me back my glasses." Brad hid the glasses she was wearing behind his back and gave her a new pair that he had in his pocket. Brad said, "OK, here." Cassidy put her authentic glasses on and couldn't see anything weird anymore. Cassidy said, "That's better. Now let's go find Shirley and Jake."

Shirley and Jake left the principal's office because they couldn't find anything. Then, they met up with Brad, Cassidy, and Ricky. Once they met, the tree monster appeared, and they ran for their lives. Then the tree monster chased them out of the school and into the park, where they found an ice palace. All five of them ran into the front door of the ice palace and hid from the tree monster in there. Once the tree monster got to the park, he lost Shirley and The Cue Crackers and left. While Shirley and The Clue Crackers were all in the ice palace, they looked around and found Judy locked up in the tower. Brad said, "Judy, you're alive." Shirley picked the lock on the door, opened it, and let Judy out.

Shirley also found her backpack in the tower and put it back on. Shirley said, "Looks like we're back in business." Cassidy said, "I don't know about that." Ricky said, "What do you mean?" Cassidy said, "Think about it. We're all here. Right?" Shirley said, "Right." Cassidy said, "And we also found explosives in the cave. Right?" Ricky said, "Yeah, so?" Cassidy said, "In 3, 2, 1." Then the ice castle started exploding, and Shirley and The Clue Crackers ran for the front door. Once they made it there, the ice castle exploded. After the villains saw the palace explode, they cheered for themselves because they thought their plan worked.

Later, the gym teacher was walking through the hallways of the school when he saw a shadow of Shirley's car and thought it was back. Then he screamed and ran for his life. The music teacher was practicing playing the guitar when suddenly, the piano started to play itself, and the music teacher yelled in fear. Then the lunch lady saw a ghost of Judy, screamed, and ran for her life. The librarian was organizing her books when the library doors slammed shut, and the shelves started to fall. Then the librarian screamed in terror and ran out of the library. All four of them ran for their lives through the hallways of the school until they saw a janitor opening his closet. Then, all four ran into the closet and slammed the door shut. Then Brad removed his janitor disguise and said, "Got them." Brad opened the closet door, and all four of them fell out. Then, all four looked up and saw Shirley and The Clue Crackers standing ahead of them. The librarian said, "You. It was you all along. They tricked us." The music teacher said, "But how?" Brad said, "Easy, I disguised myself as the janitor." Judy said, "I fooled the lunch lady with a movie projector." Shirley said, "I fooled the gym teacher by making a shadow of my car with my hands." Cassidy said, "I tricked the librarian by closing the doors with invisible wires and knocking over the shelves." Ricky said, "And Jake and I fooled the music teacher by setting a timer on the piano so it would play when the timer ran out." Brad said, "But how did all this happen, and what were they after anyway?" Cassidy said, "Simple, this mystery doesn't have a culprit; it has a conspiracy. And maybe if we remove these costumes, we'll find out who's behind this."

Cassidy removed the music teacher's hat and wig, and The Clue Crackers recognized him when she did. The Clue Crackers all said, "John!" Cassidy said, "Yes, John. One of the aliens we faced in Kansas who tried to find oil and sell it for a profit with his girlfriend, Clara." Cassidy took off the lunch lady's head, and Shirley recognized her. Shirley said, "Sherry!" Judy said, "You know her?" Shirley said, "She pretended to be a real detective, set up her crime for herself to solve, and kidnapped herself, but I stopped her before she got away with it." Cassidy took off the gym teacher's face, and Shirley recognized him. Shirley said, "Rex!" Ricky said, "Him too?" Shirley said, "He used me to throw me off his trail, and he pretended to be in love with me while he used all my past villains, including Sherry, to put on a circus and profit off crime. He used hypnosis belts he invented to hypnotize my past foes into forgetting me and thinking they're circus performers, but I fought all of them again and saved them before Rex could get away with his plan." Cassidy said, "That means this is no librarian." Cassidy removed the librarian's head, and The Clue Crackers recognized her. The Clue Crackers all said, "Lydia!" Ricky said, "Lydia. You helped Hazel pull off her lake monster scheme." Brad said, "Who knew there'd be a conspiracy to destroy us?" Sherry said, "Are you kidding? Everyone you ever busted wants revenge." Lydia said, "We found each other on the anti-detective network. You wouldn't believe how many hits it gets daily." Judy took out her phone and looked up the anti-detective network and found pictures of them, Shirley, and other detectives with red lines through them. Rex said, "Then we devised this plan to destroy you guys forever." Brad said, "But how'd they pull all this off?" Cassidy said, "Simple."

Cassidy started to explain the villains' plan and how it happened. Cassidy said, "First, the villains invited us over to decorate the school for Christmas. Knowing how well we were, they knew we wouldn't refuse. Once we arrived, Sherry flew down on a hovercraft, kidnapped Judy, and took her to the ice palace. They used her as the bait to bring Shirley into the picture because they knew we would need a fifth member. Once we started the mystery, they took the liberty of adding the tree monster. They kept switching back and forth to throw the trail off themselves. They also dressed up as mysterious figures who were always out to get us. The next victim was Shirley. Lydia used the explosives and dynamite to blow up her car. And Sherry used a fishing line to steal her backpack while investigating. And when we came back to the school to investigate, I dropped my glasses. Once I did, Steve replaced my real glasses with fake ones that would give me clues and make me see things only I could see. That way, it would look like I was crazy. Brad then went undercover as a gym teacher and met up with Rex in disguise. Rex then put a special pin on him and used a remote control disguised as a pager to control Brad's emotions. Once Shirley found those notes in the basement, she thought she recognized the handwriting because it was Rex's." Shirley snapped her fingers and said, "That's why I recognized that handwriting and the data. It was the same handwriting and data I saw on the blueprints of Rex's hypnosis belts. Rex must have invented Brad's pin and changed the data on one of his hypnosis belts to change what it does. That's why Ricky did a bunch of random things." Shirley reached into Rex's pocket and found a remote. Shirley said, "He used this remote to make Ricky obey, become brave and afraid, change his emotions, and make him do things he wouldn't rely on. That means Rex was dressed as the tree monster because he used related belts on my past villains to hypnotize them when he did his crime." Brad said, "And Sherry was probably dressed as the mysterious figure when we ran into the basement." Ricky said, "And before we all returned to normal and got our stuff back, they planted explosives in the ice castle because they knew we would find Judy there." Cassidy said, "And once we got inside and freed Judy, they hit the button and were hoping to blow us up with the castle like they did with Shirley's car with all the dynamite and explosives we found." Lydia said, "We would have destroyed all you meddling kids." Sherry said, "If it wasn't for you meddling kids." Then, the police handcuffed all four of them and took them back to jail.

Shirley and The Clue Crackers celebrated Christmas together at their hotel the next day. Shirley said, "Well, the villains are defeated, and we're having a Merry Christmas." Cassidy said, "By the way, we have a surprise for you." The Clue Crackers took Shirley outside, and she saw two cars outside. One was a van with their group name on it, and the other was a car that looked just like Shirley's car, which exploded. Shirley said, "You guys replaced my car and got your own?" Judy said, "It's the least we can do after all you did to help." Shirley said, "Thank you. Maybe we'll cross paths again someday." Brad said, "Maybe. But until then, let's all have a Merry Christmas." Shirley laughed, and then all six held hands and sang around a Christmas tree that Jake was standing in front of.
