The name of the cafe Lori was now working at was called Inquiry Inn. Only, oddly enough, it wasn't an inn at all; there was no lodging, only a few tables surrounded by birchwood chairs and autumn decorations hung on every wall no matter the season.
Honestly, Lori was stumped as to why the owner chose that name specifically, but unraveling the mysteries of this coffee shop like it was the Chamber of Secrets was not was she was there for.
No, Lori was there to find her first suspects.
4 years before, she and Julia had gone there to celebrate the latter getting into Cambridge University. There wasn't much anyone else there, save for a family of five, a high school student on his computer, and…
…the staff.
None of those other people were all too important to Lori. She was focused on the staff members. Specifically the ones who'd worked there in 2010 and still worked there to that day.
Taking a deep breath, Lori gripped the bar handle and pushed the door open, the sound of a bell ringing out as she entered.
It was still early in the morning. The sun was just barely peeking out over the horizon, and needless to say it was way before opening time. Now, this may seem a little over the top, but it was good for Lori to be early on her first day to get used to her surroundings.
The bespectacled lady's gaze flickered around the room, occasionally stopping on a lamp or something. Lori soon discovered, however, that, surprisingly, someone was actually there. It was a young woman, not above the age of 25, with long, wavy black hair and honey brown eyes.
In fact, this woman was one of the baristas working on that day. Jadyn Hill.
Jadyn was a 23 year old who, coincidentally, lived in the same apartment complex as Lori. She'd seen her every now and then, walking her dog(who Lori had come to know as Lulu when Jadyn called out the overzealous yorkie's name as she raced about) outside the building.
Lori had to admit, she wasn't bad looking. Her hair was shiny, probably well taken care of, her eyes were bright, her skin was rosy, and her lips..
Ahem. Lori wasn't here to think about any of that. Her top priority was justice, and Jadyn was a suspect.
And what was said suspect currently doing?
Mixing sugar-water into syrup while humming a tune. On top of that, she wore a cat pin on the back of her head.
..Yeah, doesn't really scream 'murderer', does it?
