"Based on the way the conversation is going, you think I'm going to press charges on you right? If one connects the dots, even if there isn't anything concrete, you're the prime suspect. Carl would've gone too but he has no reason to kill my security. He lacks the ability to do so too"
He only nodded in response. He wasn't thinking about old problems but new problems.
"You're smart but I'm also smart. I won't insist on the issue if you agree to a condition"
He only walked up to Megan and hugged her and she returned it but harder. Blair smiled.
"I want you to find someone for me. Not a criminal. He's an ungrateful idiot who stole part of my ideas. You're good with hiding, clearly. Maybe you can find someone that no amount of money can"
So no killing was required. Just locating a mysterious individual.
"If you can find him, I'll help you find the debt boss. Much easier when the person in question flaunts his capabilities openly"
So he was trading an easy to find target for a hard to find target. Wasn't much help to be honest, but better then dealing with a year long investigation that he would maybe win. Didn't have the cash to handle it. Furthermore, he would be watched like a hawk after. Less effort to deny it all from the start but much more difficult consequences to deal with. More effort and roadblocks in his way now but only advantages after. He'd prefer having someone who had connections to the FBI in his pocket.
He agreed and finally found out why Blair left so suddenly and the lack of interest in the meeting she set up.
"My guards told me there were suspicious looking mechanics staring at the area. They came up and asked some questions. They were pressing so much I had to come out personally. Compared to the security of my friends, a minor business deal is not important to me. I would just re-invite you all. Somehow, one of them had been stabbed and posed no risk so it was perfectly safe for me to head out. I'm sorry for the concern"
So the people he had subdued came back to reassess the situation. They followed him, clearly, to see where he was heading. They pressed Blair which meant they weren't afraid of her. They left. Maybe they found out about her identity and decided better. Would they say anything about his possible connection to a famous engineer or not? Hard gamble. Not enough to base it on unless he considered whether or not they wanted him as their enemy. Perhaps they figured they were just caught off guard. However, it would be hard to explain the knife wound. They would be pressed on it and he would be exposed. He could expect heavier guys to come. It was better to assume the worse so his gears kicked into overdrive.
"Henry, right? Do you want me to put a check on them? I think I know who they are. They're cowards, famous for picking on kids because any bigger prey is out of their league"
He turned and saw Megan walking behind Ava, smiling. She held a piece of paper in her hands with two signatures. She was on his left and Ava's 'man' to his right. Somehow the roles had been flipped. It was like a fairy tale had come to life. Then he remembered the experiment.
Are Fairytales Real?
He had no clue how it worked. Didn't know how to activate it either. Was it an ability? He didn't think it either. It was just an automatic thought that had surfaced in his head. Well, not really automatic. He was displeased with Blair's behavior and then then that thought appeared as a response. To be more specific, he was displeased that Blair didn't seem interested with Megan's work and that upset him. Right before he died, before he reappeared back in his apartment, he had also thought about Megan. Was Megan the trigger. That seemed rather simple. Did that mean he could think about any girl and it would work? But then what were his feelings towards Megan? He had a more complicated but obvious idea. Megan's beauty was what attracted him, but it was her passion towards things she was interested in that made him stay. The way she became extremely cute and romantic while passionate created a strong desire in him to be with her. But that wasn't enough.
He created fairy tales to turn pure and innocent ideas into something rather substantive. What if the princess fell in love with the hopeful bloke? He thought about how his misunderstanding of the situation led to an unexpected result. Were the gears turning in the background and set into motion a series of event that led to what he was seeing now? If that was true, then it wasn't necessarily a cheat code as it was a hidden guide he wasn't able to account for. This made everything a bit trickier. If he made a wrong move. Was it possible to make an incorrect move?
But, how on earth did Fairytales work? It only interacted with him and had no effect on the world, at least not directly! Could he use Fairytales in his hunt for the debt boss? But… how would it work if he knew nothing about this debt boss?
"Ava, right? I would love your help. I came here to support Megan. I didn't expect a CEO nor did I expect their help. Thank you"
"Don't mention it. I was surprised too. I didn't expect Megan's work to compel me so much. You're quite capable as well. Evidence is only necessary if there are evil intentions. I'm not bothered that you killed a bodyguard if you had the right perceptions. She really values you. Refused to make any kind of deal unless I factored you in as well. Positively dense about her situation. I like it. I have private connections that can locate a needle in a haystack. Now, what should we do about Blair?"
He had no idea what Ava meant by that and was shocked by her next words.
