Chapter 10 - Make A Move

Days passed as Dorin recovered, and he spent most of it sleeping, eating, and learning about his connection to Anya. He found that he could see through her eyes if he concentrated enough.

Dorin had even seen the battle between the Ara and Kari through Anya, and he trembled at the thought of facing either of them. Every night the forest was set ablaze, but during the day the fires were put out just as the sun came up.

"From what you've told me about the fires, we need to make a move," Morah was replacing the bandages made out of the remnants of his pants. His wounds had mostly healed, and the pain had lessened by a lot. "By tomorrow the forest around us will be gone."

"Where do we go?"

"You're not going anywhere like this. It's up to me and Anya to end the trial"

Dorin had seen Lonn and the remnants of his group a day ago, on the peak of a small mountain close by. Dorin and Morah were near the rough face of the mountain, where it was too steep to climb up or down.

Through Anya, Dorin discovered that there was a boundary to their world, which Morah confirmed. The entire world was centered around the mountain, with the forest surrounding it and the river ran along the border before it was absorbed by his ego.

Most of the forest had already been burnt to ash, and all that was left was what surrounded the two of them.

"It'll have to be during the day," Morah said. "We don't know exactly how Lonn's power works, but it seems like he's strongest at night."

Dorin remembered the burns all over Rae's body. He had hoped to see him through Anya, but he never showed.

"What about the others?"

"They made their choice during the trial. We have two choices here." Morah tied the last remnants of his pants gently around his chest. "First, we take care of the weaker members first, leaving Lonn alone. The second is we try and kill Lonn as fast as possible, and the trial will end."

"What about getting him to surrender?"

"In my opinion, he's not the type."

Dorin felt conflicted. He had grown up with these people, and the thought of killing any one of them besides Lonn made his stomach turn.

"I vote the second option."

"That's potentially the harder one. Even with Anya, we're still at a disadvantage. The only reason I agree is because there isn't enough time to put the numbers in our favor before the sun sets."

Dorin watched her leave with several wooden spears similar to what they used to start the fire days before. The horrible feeling in his stomach was still there, but he tried to stay focused as his vision flashed back and forth between his own and Anya's.

Through her eyes, he could see everything in their world. She flew in dark clouds which obscured the sun and kept her out of sight as she blended in.

Morah had begun to scale the mountain, seemingly covered in mud. He chuckled, bringing his vision back to himself for a moment before reconnecting to Anya.

Lonn's group was waiting together, probably for it to turn night again. He watched as Kari walked in and out of Lonn's cave, tossing those large sticks onto a pile over and over. He had already told this to Morah, and she said that they were most likely created by his ego.

Besides Lonn, Ara was easily the champion of the group, but due to the battle she was separated from them, choosing to live out in the dead forest. Morah's path let her bypass Ara completely, but the rest of the group was too close to evade. Dorin could only hope that they were too scared to do anything.

As Morah got closer, Dorin felt a pulsing from his left hand and it knocked him back into his own body. He wanted so badly to help, but he knew that in his current state there was nothing he could do. All he could do was watch, but if he kept getting kicked out he might miss something important.

'Please stay alive.' Dorin tried to pass this message to Anya, but he didn't know if the connection worked like that. As he attempted to switch his vision to her again, a tremor passed through his body before he passed out completely.
