SHIELD's Secret Operations Base: The Angels
We reach the base swiftly. Before entering, I turn to Isa. "Get some clothes for Jean and Elaine."
I can't have my agents thinking that waiting around naked is protocol. They need to be ready for any emergency, and frankly, I don't want other men seeing them in such a state. As I step into the building, a few familiar faces greet me—agents I've had relationships with. These women, now pregnant and working administrative roles, proudly wear bikinis that show off their bodies. They line up as I approach, their eyes lighting up at my presence.
Gently, I caress each of them, tracing my hand over their stomachs, planting a kiss on their lips and bellies. The demigod gene within their unborn daughters stirs at my touch, unlocking abilities that will serve them well: resistance to the crushing depths of the ocean, the ability to breathe underwater, and adamantite chains that will bind them only when they are in the gravest danger. They will live long lives, and when the time comes, they'll join my world for eternity.
Isa already knows the rule: every woman who enters my world is granted immortality, just like their mothers.
One of the agents gently guides me through the facility, while Jean and Elaine stay behind under the care of another pregnant agent. As we walk, we reach an area with a large pool. Sitting at the edge, legs dangling in the water, is a striking woman with light blue skin and long, almost-black blue hair.
Before I can speak, the agent interrupts. "Maria Rambeau and her daughter, Monica, have arrived, sir. Maria was caught snooping for information about Carol Danvers' disappearance. They've been brought here."
"Good," I nod. "Take them to a room where they can relax. Make sure the kid has some toys to play with. Monica's going to be important one day—Ms. Marvel for a while, remember? Having her on our side is better than letting the military, or worse, the people behind the Sentinels, get to her first."
The agent leaves, and now it's just me and the princess of Atlantis.
She has been watching the entire time, her gaze calm but curious. I walk over, stopping a respectful distance away, and introduce myself.
"Greetings, Miss. I am Ryan, Director of SHIELD and the one in charge here. I am also the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, a dragon god, and... well, much more."
"Your Majesty," she replies with a small smile, her voice rich with elegance. "Since your arrival, I have felt a powerful connection to my people. I am Fen, Princess of Atlantis. I fled from a forced political marriage, only to get trapped in fishing nets and brought here. Seeing you, Prince of the Oceans, reassures me that I made the right choice in trusting this place."
"Fen, it is an honor," I say, stepping closer. "But know that I am not only the son of Poseidon. I am now the king of the gods, having defeated Zeus and claimed his power. The surface world and Atlantis are fated to reconnect, and together, we will shape a new future."
"I know that only the nobles of your race can breathe on the surface for long periods," I begin, watching her closely. "But here's a secret: there are other universes, other dimensions, each with their own Atlanteans. In most cases, only the noble can breathe both on land and underwater. Others manage only for a short while. One of my missions is to unite all Atlanteans under my rule, to bring them into the world I will create—where they will have the freedom to visit the surface whenever they wish."
"My Lord, I would be honored to join your cause, but I'm unsure how I could help you achieve this," Fen replies, her voice laced with both curiosity and a quiet eagerness.
"It's simple, Princess Fen," I say, stepping closer. "I will make you one of my women. You won't need to marry right away, but in time, you will bear my daughters, who will one day rule Atlantis—under my command, of course. I will personally ensure my presence in Atlantis so no one will object to us being together. We can cultivate our relationship slowly, allowing feelings to grow. What do you think?"
Fen's eyes light up as a blush creeps across her cheeks. "I agree completely, Your Majesty. I believe the rest of Atlantis will as well. My own bloodline urges me to submit to you. It is only through sheer effort that I've been able to maintain my composure and speak with you normally. I know it's because you haven't used your powers to control me, which only proves your sincerity."
"Of course, I am sincere," I say with a grin. "Besides, I could never harm someone as beautiful as you. Unless, of course, we're indulging in... special activities in the bedroom." I wink, amused by the deeper flush that blooms on her face.
"If it pleases you, Your Majesty, we can begin... reproduction anytime. Nobles of my race aren't very fertile."
"Don't worry about that." I wave the concern away with a confident smile. "I can ensure fertilization as many times as needed, and I can even stimulate your eggs to conceive multiple offspring at once. Though giving birth to many children at once wouldn't be ideal for you—only goddesses can handle such miracles without complications. For humans, the largest natural birth is sextuplets. But, well, I think you understand what I'm getting at. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. For now, rest and take it easy. If you need anything, you can ask the agents via the communicator by the door. I have other matters to attend to, but I'll see you tonight, Princess Fen."
"Until tonight, Your Majesty," she responds softly, bowing her head.
I leave the room, finding an agent waiting just outside. She quickly notices me and steps forward, ready to lead me to Maria and her daughter.
We walk through the base and arrive at a door marked **Maternity Ward**. Inside, a few agents who have recently given birth to their daughters are relaxing. Monica, Maria's daughter, is playing with the little ones, while some agents sit with Maria, chatting to help her relax. When they see me, the agents speaking with Maria quickly stand and bow in respect. I nod for them to leave us, and they retreat to tend to their daughters.
I approach Maria. Recognizing me as the one in charge, she stands up and gives me a crisp military salute.
"At ease, Private Rambeau," I say, motioning for her to relax. "I can see you have questions, and I've got the answers you're looking for. I'm Ryan, the Director of SHIELD. Let's head somewhere more private so we can talk."
"Yes, sir," she replies, her posture stiff.
"Feel free to leave your daughter here," I continue, nodding toward Monica, who is busy playing. "She seems to be enjoying herself." After exchanging a few more words, I lead Maria to a small, quiet room. There's a table surrounded by chairs, a few armchairs scattered about, and a corner where coffee and snacks are available.
"Alright, Ms. Rambeau," I say, taking a seat and gesturing for her to do the same. "I know you've got questions, and I'm happy to provide answers, but there's a catch. Because the information you're asking for is classified, you have two choices. The first option is to hear what you want to know, but I'll have to eliminate you to protect the secret. The second option is to get your answers and keep your life, but you'll need to join SHIELD as a cadet. That means following all the rules, enduring the training, no matter how tough it gets. If you fail even once, you'll start over from the beginning. Those are your options. What's your choice?"
Maria raises an eyebrow, clearly not thrilled with her options. "So... you're basically saying I only have one choice—you want me to join SHIELD."
I give a slight smirk. "You're sharp, but I meant what I said. The first option is still on the table. Now, what's your decision?"
After a brief pause, she nods, her tone serious. "I'll take the second option. I don't want to be eliminated."
"Good choice," I say, leaning back in my chair. "Now, ask away, and after that, we'll start your training. Your daughter will be placed with the other young cadets. Don't worry, they'll take good care of her."
Maria takes a deep breath before asking her first question. "What kind of test was Carol involved in? And why did she disappear? Will she ever come back?"
I nod, expecting these questions. "Carol Danvers was a pilot testing a new type of engine created by Mar-Vell, an alien scientist from the Kree race. The engine was based on advanced technology—some of it originally developed by the Nazis' secret group, HYDRA. During one of her flights, she was ambushed by Kree forces who wanted to steal Mar-Vell's work. Carol managed to crash land, but when she was cornered, she destroyed the engine. It exploded, releasing a massive amount of energy that got absorbed into her body. That's why she passed out. The Kree took her because they believed the energy she absorbed was more valuable than the engine itself. As for her return, I expect she'll come back in about six years."
Maria looks stunned. "Aliens? HYDRA? That's... a lot to process."
I smile gently. "Yes, it is. And there's more—there are other races on Earth, hidden from view, and many more out in the universe. But for now, that's all you need to know. Do you have any other questions, or would you like some time to process this?"
"I think... I need time," Maria says, her voice wavering slightly.
"Understandable. I'll leave you to gather your thoughts," I say as I rise from my seat. "In the meantime, I'll take your daughter to join the young cadets. Don't worry, you'll be able to communicate with her regularly through video calls, but for now, it's important that she starts getting used to being on her own. Cadets have responsibilities, and they need to focus. Once you complete your training, you can visit her as often as you like, but you won't be able to take her with you until then. Understood, Cadet Rambeau?"
"Understood," she replies, her voice steady as she comes to terms with her new reality.
"I understand," Maria says with determination. "I'll complete my training as quickly as possible."
"Good. I should also inform you," I add, "that your daughter will receive a comprehensive education, including any university-level courses she wishes to pursue. Everything she needs to grow academically and personally will be provided."
"Thank you, Director," Maria responds, a hint of relief in her voice. "I won't let you down."
"I expect nothing less, Cadet. Be a role model for your daughter. Now, I'll leave you to gather your thoughts."
With a nod, I take my leave, stepping out of the room and heading back to the maternity ward. There, I find Monica, still helping with the babies. Gently, I approach her. "Monica, it's time to take you to the place where you'll be staying from now on. Don't worry, your mother will contact you later."
Monica looks up, slightly hesitant, but follows without complaint. As we walk, I engage her in conversation, trying to ease the transition. She tells me about her life—her likes, her dreams—and I learn that she's 14 years old, full of curiosity and spirit. But I know the reality she's stepping into will be a hard adjustment. The structure and discipline of SHIELD's cadet program won't always align with what she's used to.
"Monica," I say gently, "I know this is a lot to take in, and the way you'll be educated here is going to be different from what you've known. Some of it might not be fun, but it will prepare you for much bigger things. Your mother and I both believe in you."
She looks at me with a mixture of nervousness and resolve, and I can see the spark of determination in her young eyes. She's strong—stronger than she realizes.
Up to here.
