Four hours later, we disembark and drive straight to the military base where these kids are being held captive.
They're supposed to be rescued by Logan a few years from now, but waiting for that to happen isn't an option.
I'm not about to stand by while children and teenagers are tortured and killed simply because they're different.
The people running this operation behave like Nazis, which isn't surprising given that they're remnants of Hydra who managed to infiltrate the country.
By now, Emma Frost should be around 15 years old, still two years away from joining Sebastian Shaw. But I have no intention of letting her fall into the hands of that fool—I plan to take her power for myself.
You might wonder, with all the abilities I already have, why bother with hers? Let me give you a hint: there's a moment in the DC universe where it will come in handy.
Sure, there are other ways to handle scenarios that involve accidentally destroying a planet or star, but those options tend to have dire consequences.
In these universes, civilizations are often at stake, and dealing with the Lantern Corps constantly hunting me down would be an annoying hassle. But that's enough foreshadowing for the future.
The drive to the military facility is swift, with the road kept clear of any obstacles. We're momentarily stopped by a group of soldiers, but Kayla quickly hypnotizes them, allowing us to slip through without raising suspicion.
I scan the soldiers' memories and discover that the mutants are being held in an area they refer to as "the stable." It turns out they've been locked up in modified horse stables designed to suppress their powers. Interestingly, none of their abilities are overly destructive—except for Scott's, better known as Cyclops. His optic blasts are considered the most dangerous in this facility.
We move quickly towards the stable, but suddenly alarms blare across the base. It seems they have two surveillance hubs—one at the entrance and another within the campus. Looks like it's time to get my hands dirty.
I instruct Kayla and Maria to head ahead and start freeing the mutants while I stay behind to deal with the incoming Hydra soldiers. They nod and rush off towards the stable.
As the soldiers draw closer, I take a moment to scan their minds, hoping there might be someone who's just here due to unfortunate circumstances. But no, each and every one of them relishes in the suffering they inflict.
They take sick pleasure in torturing mutants, and when an experiment goes wrong, they stoop to raping the boys or girls before discarding their lives like trash. Monsters like that deserve no mercy.
Those memories ignite a deep rage within me. Sure, I might train slaves and inflict pain for those who deserve it, or simply when I take a disliking to someone—but I draw the line at doing it purely for sadistic pleasure. I only indulge in such acts when they're fully subdued or already show a high level of obedience, and even then, it's often more for my own amusement. But these guys? They cross every line. Their cruelty goes beyond anything justifiable.
Channeling my anger, I command the plants around me. Trees and vines spring to life, wrapping around the military vehicles, flipping them over, and trapping the soldiers inside.
Those on foot aren't spared either—vines coil around them from the neck down, rendering them immobile. With a simple thought, I make the plants crush the vehicles, squeezing the soldiers within until there's nothing left but twisted metal. The rest are buried alive beneath layers of thick vines, suffocating in the dark earth.
I then carve a path leading to both the stable and the exit, transforming everything else into a dense forest, erasing all traces of technology and human construction.
Once I reach the stable, I see that Kayla and Maria are nearly done freeing the captives. Most of them are young girls and women—victims spared from experimentation but subjected to even worse fates. The men were the primary targets for their twisted experiments, and only eight mutant males remain.
I open a portal to my world and instruct Maria and Kayla to lead the women and girls through it. After they're safely on the other side, I turn my attention to the remaining men.
I give them a choice: either I send them to a secure place run by fellow mutants, or they're free to leave and fend for themselves. After some deliberation, they all choose the safe option, requesting to be sent to Xavier's mansion.
Shifting into a colossal lightning dragon, I sweep them up in my claws and streak through the sky toward the mansion, cutting through the clouds with blinding speed.
It took us longer than expected—roughly two minutes, thanks to me getting a bit lost along the way. By the time we arrived, the funeral for Charles Xavier's father was already in progress. And since I'm feeling particularly generous today, it seems I'll need to offer my comfort to the grieving widow.
Shifting back to my usual form, I approach the ceremony. Fortunately, I didn't bring Maria Stark with me—Howard Stark apparently has connections with the Xaviers, and that could've complicated things. Instead, I make my way directly toward Sharon Xavier, Charles' mother. I can't let her end up marrying Juggernaut's father; I have my reasons for wanting to intervene.
The ceremony itself is an exclusive affair, reserved for the elite of the country. The attendees consist of only a handful of close relatives and a few of the deceased's wealthy friends. Everything about it screams wealth and privilege, but I'm more interested in ensuring that certain future events don't play out as originally intended.
