Chapter 49 - Skirmish in Hallowed Halls

"You think you're strong enough to defeat me? In your dreams little birdy." The vampire grumbled angrily. "Don't underestimate me like that." He snarled like a beast. "You newbies down there, kill everyone in this place. Don't die in the process though. Unless you consider yourself to be a joke, in which case, I could use a laugh." He ordered.

In response to the order from their superior the ghoulish-vampires charged. Their claws and fangs reflecting the flickerings of light from the braziers. Each letting out a growing growl, symphonizing together into a one solid tone.

"Standfast! There is no need to fear! Our Goddess is with us!" Ralond bellowed, his voice drowning out the growl of the ghoulish-vampires.

Perks of the trade, Ralond had been a commander. One commanding others during fights against forest dwelling monsters. And doing it on the monsters home turf. He had built up a natural aura so to speak, of an enviable morale boost just from his voice alone. It also would cast the fear of doubt into the enemies keeping them from moving for a short time. In other words, Ralond was the perfect commander.

Before, the others present, carrying weapons. They had been terrified of the enemy when they heard the cries of battle ring out, drowning them in a veritable flood of fear. But… With Roland's ability it didn't take long for the others to come to their senses.

While drowning in their fear, hearing the call of a single man drowning out the previous flood… It wasn't like Ralond had extended his hand to pull them out of the depths. It was more like everyone's bravery had been stimulated, allowing them to move freely once again. Each of them swimming out of the fear and into their right mind.

"Now I see why the young lady brought you here." The High Priestess said… "Perhaps not all men are unworthy of lying with?" She commented slyly.

"Not now, focus on the task at hand. We have our Lady's Enemies before us. There is only one course of action! Kill them! If you can't handle the fight alone, then group up. We outnumber them. Don't let a single one of her lady's people die." Ralond ordered, with a charismatic tone.

"You heard him ladies. I give you permission to use your magic gifted to you by our goddess through me." The head priestess ordered with a smirk. With that many purifying fire spells going out, it shouldn't be a problem to properly support the men and women up front in the melee.

"Seems like time ran out. Stand proud and fell the enemy." Ralond ordered, charging forward in a rush.

Roland's sword moved like the wind, as he passed the ghoulish-vampire struck by the high priestess' magic, it didn't take but a moment. The ghoulish-vampire fell apart into pieces, unmoving, dead.

It doesn't matter if one thought a vampire would need a stake through the heart to kill them. Because this simply wasn't the case, well, maybe for a mortal with no training of force of will, or blessing in a god. It would be difficult to kill these creatures.

For Ralond however, such creatures were too weak to go against the strength of his faith. His faith magic extended to the sword he wielded, a part of his very own body, an extension. With the power of faith in his goddess flowing through the blade, it became a kin to a holy element. Similar to the Flare Burst the high priestess used, only far less showy.

"Good, You see that! With us working together, and our goddess at our side watching over us. We can kill these wicked abominations!" Ralond yelled as continued to rush forward, ignoring the weakest foes. "You handle the weaker ones. I'll hold off the stronger foes." He said, as his blade clashed with two of the enemies wearing the uniform, the same one he was currently wearing.

"Ladies, start casting. Ralond has demonstrated his ability. The men up front will hold the enemy back with sword and shield. Work together if you need to, prove you are worthy of a priestess' robes. Priestesses in training, don't try anything stupid, just work on guiding the people towards the altar. That is a perfectly holy place, no evil may step in that sacred place." The head priestess gave out her own orders.

The priestesses didn't wait idly by. And began targeting the enemy vampires with their spells. Their holy spells, power from their lady herself.

"Oh, our goddess is the greatest. Her power is so warm and comforting. To think even her enemies could be wrapped in such comfortable power. Oh! I want more! My goddess, allow me to feel you, allow this humble one the power to eliminate your enemies. Please goddess I beg of you, let me feel your touch!" A priestess called out, over exaggerating her chant.

The chant wasn't really needed. What this chant did do however, was solidify the faith she had in her goddess. And showed just how much she truly loved her goddess. However, Eternia didn't need to hear it, as Eternia can feel exactly what is in her followers' hearts.

Even so, it set the tone of spirit for the others. It even gave a slight boost in morale to the non magic users who were about to clash with the enemy.

The ghoulish-vampires regained their movement again. The paralyzing fear had worn off, and they resumed their charge.

"Ahahah! I want to eat you!"

"Let me eat you!"

"Come dine with us. You're on the menu."

"Don't resist and it'll be quick."

"I'm so hungry! And you smell good!"

"Ah! Delicious scent means delicious food."

"AHAHAH! HUMAN ME EAT!"

"I'm more of a tender flesh, but you'll do for now, I guess."

"I'm going to eat you alive!"

"I wanna eat your babies!"

"That's it squirm for me. Fear makes the meat taste better!"

"Idiots all of you, the organs are the most delicious parts."

The ghoulish-vampires jeered with their words, attempting to put fear into their prey. However, instead of clashing against weaklings as they had expected… What met them were the shields and swords of people strengthened by their faith, steadfast.

"It looks like you have some power, but my subordinates will make quick work of them either way. Ahahaha, but did you see the way that one died…" The Vampire laughed, pointing at the pile of what was now dust, blowing away in the wind.
