Chapter 8 - Enchantment

Soulforce Crystal. Pill for the body-refining process that can speed up the intake of soul force. Price: Each one costs ten taels of gold.

Meditation pills. Body refining phase pill that can soothe a martial artist's heart and rid it of its demons. Price: 20 taels of gold each piece.

Dan the Bone Washer. Martial artists can remove pollutants from their muscles and marrow by using the body-refining phase tablet. It can assist sixth level and below martial artists in breaking through with their bodies. Each for 100 taels of gold.

He couldn't help but glance over the medication bottles' costs. Leo's heart trembled with an irresistible longing. Everything about this, but notably the bottle of Bone Washing Dan, was excellent. At this very moment, it was precisely what Leo needed.

However, due to the cost, Leo and Alden abandoned those plans.

Leo didn't even have five taels of gold on him because one tael was equal to 10 taels of silver. The Bone Washing Dang, which cost one hundred gold taels, was out of his price range, and he couldn't even afford the most basic bottle of Soulforce Crystal.

Just about the same amount that Leo had was in Alden's possession. He started out with ten taels of gold, but he's used up half of it already.

"damn! Actually, the wealthy were the intended target audience for them. Your grandpa could have slept with all the women in Azure Peak Village if he had ten taels of gold." Alden whispered an expletive. He had planned to buy a tablet for experimentation, but his expectations proved to be unrealistic.

"Alden, throw it out of your mind," Leo said while shaking his head. "We can't just go out and get these medicines."

As soon as Alden saw that Leo was ready to go, he asked, "What's the rush? Is it still okay to browse if I can't afford to buy? Oh my goodness, this place has everything. Let's take a closer look. Then we can still boast about it when we return later, won't we?"

Because Alden wouldn't stop wanting to look around, Leo tagged along as well. Regardless, he had emerged beforehand.

Everything imaginable was on sale in this store. The two kept looking at other items, as the price of pills was too high for them.

Certain enchantment scrolls immediately caught Leo's attention. He walked over there without hesitation. His gaze swept away the descriptions on the scrolls.

Strong Armor Rune. Iron grade armor and above can be enchanted with this. It will add ten to twenty percent to the armor's protection. One thousand taels of gold!

Enormous Power Rune. Any weapon of iron grade or above can be enchanted with this spell. It will increase the weapon's attack strength by 10% to 20%. Price: 1,500 gold taels…

Leo was abruptly out of breath at the sight of these absurd charges and had to ask out loud, "Alden, come over here. What are these items? Why do they cost so much money?"

These are scrolls of magic, I see. Enchanters are the only ones who can create them. Of all, enchanters may make a ton of money, but they can also spend it all quickly." Alden remarked, giving a tongue-click.

"A scroll of enchantment?"

Leo's mind flooded with recollections as soon as he heard Alden's remarks.

Over the course of those ten days, Leo had thoroughly reviewed all of the information stored in the sword crystal, in addition to developing. The most recent section included array-related articles in addition to the Soulforge Soul Return Tactic and Blinking Sword Skill. It turned out to be an enchantment method!

Leo had first assumed that those things were useless, but it seems he was very wrong!

After witnessing Leo's fascination with enchanters, Alden's demeanor took a dramatic turn for the better. His eagerness to impress Leo led him to chatter incessantly about his knowledge, eager to showcase his expertise.

As he started his lesson, Alden cleared his throat again and coughed gently.

"Along with alchemists and crafters, enchanters are one of the three major occupations on the Aetherblade Continent."

"In contrast to the tools and medicines used by alchemists, enchanters are able to create various runes and condense them into enchantment scrolls.

A martial artist can enchant their weapon or equipment with an enchantment scroll. In terms of impact and efficacy, various runes are unique. Depending on their requirements, users may choose from a variety of scrolls.

And once charmed, the weapon or piece of equipment will gain strength, but to different degrees. You may even increase a weapon's prestige with certain potent enchantment scrolls! When contrasted to its enchanted counterpart, a seemingly identical weapon will be as dissimilar as the sky and the ground.

That is why enchantment scrolls are so expensive."

"The issue is, being charming isn't a skill that the average individual can acquire. A high level of skill is required for enchantments due to the extensive study of many runes. In fact, it's higher than what's necessary for artisans and alchemists."

"What's more, enchanters must make use of incredibly costly ingredients. People can't afford it, plain and simple. A single error renders a rune useless, rendering all of the materials invested in it useless as well."

"Spending a lot of money will produce an enchanter with the necessary skills. Obviously, the rate of financial gain is enormous if one can truly become an enchanter…"

The whole time Leo listened to Alden talk, his heart was racing. There was this priceless idea floating around in his head from the beginning, but he hadn't given it much thought or analysis.

It was still more than a thousand taels of money for a single low-grade magic scroll. His life would be perfect if he could master magic and make enchantment scrolls. Soulforce Crystal, Bone Washing Dan? Which one? They would be like sweets to him!

With this in mind, Leo's enthusiasm became unbearable. Already, he was eager to delve headfirst into those enchanted abilities he had been daydreaming about.

"Listen, Alden, I'm going to return home first to take care of some business. Look around at your leisure. Oh, sure, I intend to cultivate when I return. Remember to not disturb me. After hurriedly composing these few phrases, Leo returned to the inn, locking himself in his room to research.

Alden had just finished a heated speech in which spittle was flying. He had not anticipated that Leo would just declare his departure. He was momentarily taken aback. It was only after observing Leo leave Spirit Materials Street that he said, "Brother Leo, wait for me!"

Alden screamed as he followed Leo blindly. He had no idea what pulled Leo so passionately, but if he were by himself, he would be too lethargic to explore. Besides, he had nothing to purchase.

Leo was far faster than Alden, who was only at body refining second level, because to his peak body refining third level strength. He was back at the inn in no time at all. He swiftly closed his door and meticulously reviewed the memories related to enchantment, demonstrating his careful attention to detail.

After closely examining these enchanted memories, Leo realized that it was to be expected. Only a few fundamental enchantment techniques were present in this tiny fragment of memory. It could, at best, be used to enchant weapons used in treasure-stages, but for Leo, it was more than enough for now.

The weapons that martial artists used were different from those that regular people used. Ordinary people's weapons lacked the ability to withstand a martial artist's immense strength; they could only be utilized as ordinary items and could not be enchanted.

Martial artists' weapons were classified into four grades: iron, treasure, spirit, and legendary divine equipment. Body-refining stage martial artists could only utilize iron-grade weaponry. Treasure grade weapons were intended for martial artists who have progressed beyond the body refining stage. That seemed far away to Leo.

It should be noted that Leo does not currently have iron grade equipment.

Even with his beginning enchanting talents, Leo thought it to be extraordinarily profound and delicate. Those incredibly difficult runes, even if my stroke was incorrect, would produce various results. Leo temporarily forgot about producing money and focused only on studying the enchanting talent.

Enchantment talents place a high value on talent and perception. Leo's actions clearly demonstrated his skills.

At the time, the arcane runes had been firmly embedded in Leo's memory, making analysis much easier.

After three hours of meticulously reading over the memories, he had a firm understanding of the novice enchanting techniques.

To create an enchanted scroll, one must first utilize a specific blank scroll and a special ink for writing the runes. Different runes needed different inks.

All of these items were far too luxurious for Leo, who was merely practicing rune proficiency at the time. Naturally, those pleasures were unnecessary, and he lacked the funds to purchase them.

Leo took a long breath, steadied himself, and began practicing sketching the runes.

For enchanting letters, both theory and practice were essential. Because he had acquired the sword crystal's memories, Leo was already familiar with the enchantment skills and procedures, but writing them down was more difficult.

Because there wasn't enough material to practice on, Leo could only utilize his soul power to write in the air.

Carving symbols in the air was a rather effective method for enchanting. If it were a new pupil, they would almost certainly fail to learn it effectively, but Leo had directly inherited that aspect of enchanting through memories. These strategies have long been stored in his head. Right now, he was merely working on his own body's coordination and perception.

The enchantment rune Leo was practicing was known as the Wild Explosion Rune. After enchanting, the weapon will have a chance to explode with twice or more damage. It was an extremely effective and valuable rune.

Leo stretched out a finger and began to move his body's soul energy. Soon, a faint flashing light of soul energy accumulated on the tip of his finger.

Leo began creating his first rune based on his recollections, moving his finger where it should go.

The finger moved continually, and a crystalline line emerged in front of Leo's eyes, the number of which gradually rose. The rune was steadily approaching completion. Leo's face became very pallid. He did not have enough soul energy.

As a body-refining stage martial artist, he couldn't store soul force in his dantian. Leo was drawing the rune while depending only on the soul power in his meridians.

Leo gritted his teeth and continued, but his finger couldn't take it and began quivering. As a result of this shaking, the run in the air flashed and then vanished. The initial effort at drawing was unsuccessful.

Leo's ability to enchant was rather impressive. He had drawn a rune correctly the first time. The problem with this time's failure was not Leo's sketching ability but rather a lack of soul energy.

It was only that this type of difficulty was unlikely to be solved in the near future. He couldn't wait till he reached the fourth stage of body refinement before trying again.

Although he had failed, Leo was not disheartened because he knew that just now, when he was writing, he had not grasped his soul power well enough, resulting in more than half of it seeping out and being wasted.

If he could make good use of all of his soul energy, finishing the Wild Explosion rune would be a breeze. Thus, the following phase required him to practice controlling the outflow of his soul energy.
